Breaking news, Kapanen quoted in this article: "I've never been a big fan of the club [Toronto Maple Leafs]. I mainly followed my dads teams, Carolina & Philadelphida." :sarcasm:

OK don't panic, just before that it's quoted "I was surprised. I received a call from my agent who told me that I'm being traded. Now I'm happy to be here because I think Toronto is one of the best organisations in the NHL."

Article is pretty generic bla bla bla. Talks a little bit about his dad and his respect for him. Reporter finishes by asking what is the best advise his dad gave to him to which he replies: "He told me that if you don't enjoy the game you won't get anywhere. You have to practice but you also have to enjoy the game. I want to be like him [Sami], but a little bit better of course."

Isn't this the interview where the reporter asked "How did you feel about that hit on your dad by Darcy Tucker?" How do you think he felt? What a nice way to welcome a prospect to our city lol

Yeah, same one.

Well at least it showed him what he was getting into right off the bat. He handled the media very well IMO. Being the son of a pro may have been the ideal preparation for our market.

I still view him the same, boom or bust prospect with elite upside. I think the trade is good for him, he'll be given more of a chance to succeed in Toronto. I thought he was going to be rushed into the lineup in Pittsburgh like Bennett was.

Sucks losing the kid, but he'll likely never be close to Kessel's level.

Exactly, he still has the same issues and upside as he did the day before he was traded, this thread is comical for its own agenda, but the kid is very much a boom or bust prospect (Exactly the same can be said about our boy Sprong, only difference is that he's produced in NA Juniors, vs Europe, but even then Kapanen seemed to look ok in his very very limited time in WBS).

The only issue now is that he went from a guy that would be brought along a little slower to potentially being on a new team that has a weaker group of forwards which allows him to crack the line-up, only time will tell if that's a good or bad thing.

I hated losing Kapanen, but for Kessel...it eases the pain. Then getting Sprong really helped aleviate the sadness of losing Kap.

What the hell are you talking about? Prior to the trade a whole bunch of people on the Pens board had Kapanen penciled into the team's lineup next season because they're so desperate for depth with low cap hit, or if not then the following season. In Toronto there's almost zero chance he makes the team either this year or next.

Did want to add on here that it is highly unlikely Kapanen sees NHL time this year, management doesn't seem to want to let any of our high end young talent get near this tire fire.

How has Kapanen looked in the Leafs' camp? Has he been as good as the other top prospects there ( Nylander, Marner, Bracco etc.)

The coverage for the camp has been pretty poor, so a lot of the fans that didn't go there don't have the best idea.

Good thing is, the rookie tournament is not TOO far away, so we'll get a better look at him then.

Yeah, I've seen a couple of clips where he looked.... fast. That's about all we have to go on so far.

I can't imagine him seeing ice time in Toronto under Babcock unless he forces his way onto the roster. He will be given plenty of time to develop with the Marlies. No need to rush him with deficiencies in his game. A year in the AHL will do the kid wonders, methinks.

Fast, great shot, elite hands.

He just has to learn to see the ice better and make use of his teammates. He reminds me a lot of Perron where he will over complicate things instead of making the simple play.

Thinking of a Marner - Nylander - Kapanen line is a scary thought if they all pan out.

It wasnt a traditional prospects camp. Focused a lot on off ice stuff. Very few scrimmages.

The Leafs will still have a rookie tournament in September.

I wish I knew where to get AHL video and how to post it because Kap scored a beaut in O.T. He was coming up the middle of the ice on a 1 on 1 faked right hit the brakes, played the puck through his legs back to front went left and sniped it home.

it was an assist, he shot it on net and valiev put in the rebound. was a nice move though.

ahh my bad still be nice to have a vid tho.
Its nice to have some really good youngsters coming up. You could drop the whole Leafs except for Rielly, Gardiner, Kadri, JVR, Reimer, Dion, Holland and Komarov

Vasilevskiy probably would like to have that one back though, looks like he could've trapped that one before Valiev poked it home .. anyway, here ya go:

This kids gonna be a top 6 forward in the league one day. He's got the hands, he's got the IQ, and he can do it all at top speed.

It won't be this year, it might not even be next year, but he's gonna be a solid NHLer sooner rather than later.
