Same.

I just get the sense that the moment Pittsburgh shipped him off, he got severely downgraded as a prospect.

It will be interesting to see the type of season he has with the Marlies. Marlies have a ton of offensive depth now, so I'm not sure we will see Kap play on the top line or the 1st PP unit. Gotta be happy if he puts up 45+ points in a complimentary role as a 19 year old, and I imagine Keefe will have him focus more on his overall game as well

Tempered expectations though, but it does seem like he has the skillset to put up much higher totals as well. Remember Pens fans were arguing Kap wasn't too far off from Nylander at the beginning of last season

Some Pens fans get into it.

Refreshing to come into a thread about a Leafs prospect and not have the discussion be about whether or not he is 5'9 or 5'10.25

Isn't his dad like 5'8, based on some of the logic used in the Marner thread I'm worried he's gonna shrink in the next two years...........

Maple Leafs prospect camp started today.

They were pumping his tires. He was one of the last cuts because of the Pens forward depth. He scored in one preseason game on a wicked shot but apart from that it was clear he needed more time.

Yep. If he'd have gotten a roster spot, it would have been because he backed into it.

I mean, don't trust the both of us, get game center and watch these games. Kapanen was visibly, obviously not ready and not looking close.

Too late. I think that Kapanen must have already shrunk.

The draft combine measurements from 2014 show him at 6'0" tall and weighing 180 pounds. However, on Sunday Steve Simmons stated in his column that Kapanen is now less than six feet tall and less than 180 pounds.

Either Kapanen has shrunk, or Simmons is wrong. Which is more likely?

Simmons is right, here is Kapanen now that he was traded to Leafs

For real, I think he is closer to 6'1 than 5'11.

Below average prospect that will amount to nothing in the NHL. He is a bust.

What does below average mean? Where is the line between above average and below average.

Will not even make an impact in the AHL. Every player Toronto got from Pitts in the trade is useless.

Watched this guy all camp last year: his wheels and defensive play needed work; however, he seriously impressed me with his ability to make soft little plays with the puck, and, most importantly, finish up high in close.

If he works on his awareness and gains a little footspeed, I could see him putting in 20 goals a year in the NHL. He has a marvelous ability to put the puck in the net up close and off of hard, fast passes. His one-timer and snap shots in particular.

Passing wise, he wasn't setting the world on fire but he was making soft little plays that kept the center moving forward with speed-which showed a lot of maturity and patience for an 18 year old.

Don't kid yourselves, Kapanen has his weaknesses, but he has a toolbox that included a multifaceted offensive skillset.

I wouldn't sell the farm or sell the kid short.

That is because Toronto's prospects are the worst in the NHL, and I am a Leaf fan saying this.

Riiiggghhhtt. And because you're a "Leaf fan" saying something negative about the leafs i guess it's factual. Any justification for this? Other than seemingly liking Kessel more than the rest of the organization combined

If i have to comparising William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen i'll say Nylander is much better.
Kapanen didn't impressed me at all in world juniors in Montreal and Toronto.

Kapanen was one of those big disapointment's in Finland's team last WJC U20's.
Kasperi Kapanen is 3rd generation pro hockey player ( after his grandfather Hannu father Sami and uncle Kimmo).
And he isn't even close that level where his father Sami was in his prime.

Kasperi has his weaknesses and strengths but sometimes he can be arrogant and selfish player who causing headaches to coaching staff.
We Finns call that syndrome to edari syndrome ( edari is Finnish hockey word using in hockey community and it means player is selfish)

Why arnt you listening to Pitts fans? One would think they have a better idea of how he did in their teams camp last year and not you, no? They are not talking bad about him, just being honest and reporting what they saw. Isnt that what this website is all about? Maybe you feel like you know better about one of their former prospects? Lets not take it personally.

Nope, just trying to clear up some misconceptions.

Kapanen has some talents which you can't teach and if he's developed properly there is definite significant upside.

because they live in finland? 99% of what happens on this site is pumping up or tearing down prospects that people have only read about or seen on youtube. You don't need to be a fan of a team to do that.....
