Corey Locke destroyed the O in his "19" year-old season, like Dumais is doing now.

Matt Foy wasn't anything special and finished 19 points behind Locke.

Not saying Dumais is a lock to be Locke, but Locke was the same age as Dumais and he wasn't carried.

League is better suited for a smaller guy now, too, so the probability that Dumais makes it and makes an impact is much higher than Locke.
Dumais is 18..

Those two players have zero in common.

Next season, Dumais plays for the Blue Jackets, not in the Q.

Only an injury in the summer will change that. - this young man is that good.

I don’t like the comparison but they were both the same age (18) when Locke had his 151 points season. He then returned to the OHL for his 19 yo season.

Lol Dumais will struggle in the AHL next year. The guy CAN'T SKATE to save his life. He just can't.
If the dude was 6'2 you think there could be some improvement, but he's 5'8, 5'9 on a good day.

Skating is the name of the game now, especially when you are small. Dumais got next to zero chance to make it to the NHL next season

The amount of disrespect this kid gets is insane. He literally carries a team's offense and gets compared to frauds like Locke and Petan who either were dominating as overagers or getting carried. A joke. Dumais will be a star in the show, no matter what kinda bs ''experts'' have to spout off to justify their laughable opinion at last year's draft.
In what world was Petan carried? He was an objectively awesome junior player, and shared a lot of similarities with Dumais.

He led the dub in scoring in his draft year and was 1st in PPG in his D+1 year. And he had 2 very solid WJC showings.

I kind of laughed at the Petan prospect thread, it is eerily similar to this one.

Had a good chuckle at this, as it happened in the last page or so.

You also have to ask yourself, who has ever done what he is doing in junior with those attributes? He really doesn't have any comparables. He was offensively dominant at 17 while being small and of average speed. Who do we compare him to? He's a guy who slows the game down and has developed an amazing ability to avoid needed size to get and hold the puck.

Carried is too strong of a word but the point is that Petan's scoring fell off after Leipsic and Rattie moved on. Portland was a powerhouse, whereas Dumais is the top scorer for Halifax by a country mile. He's far and away the top Q scorer and far ahead of Petan's best scoring pace.

As much as I love Dumais he isn't ready to make the step to the NHL yet. I still think he needs another year before he can do that. If AHL was an option that would be great but I don't see any reason for Dumais to play a small role on a rebuilding yet talented CBJ team. I think it would be in their best interest to send him back at least after 9 games and let him play the WJC next year.

He's just not explosive as you'd see with other smaller players. His edgework and top speed are very good but he's not a huge burner, doesn't mean he's a bad skater. He plays a very cerebral style which matches fine with his skating style and doesn't hurt his effectiveness.

Thank you.

Locke has 151 points in his U19 season.

The exact season Dumais is in now.

I can only imagine how much ”hype“ would be around Petan and Locke today with how far social media has come.

As always it depends on who drafts them. CBJ fans are generally cautiously optimistic, his biggest and most vocal believers just seem to be Q fans. If he would have been drafted by Montreal or Toronto this place would have quadruple the posts and quadruple the bold takes. Dumais isnt really even getting that much hype overall

I do not know why you are saying this? Its the complete opposite. Montreal fans Toronto are the best, but at the same time worst fans in the world. Top local Canadian prospects are not getting more love, its the opposite as they get bullied more especially in Quebec. If there are some people that cheer for Dumais here or on any web sites, they are from outside the Q and they appreciate him more. Q people and Quebec fans are past Dumais and believe that their European drafted players or American players are much better. Just saying that the love that he gets is non-canadian and definitely non-quebecers.

The boards in particular are pretty biased towards Leaf and Canadiens fans simply because how large the fanbases are. Especially in comparison to CBJ, if Dumais was a leafs prospect there would be multiple boards asking if Dumais was the next Mcdavid or if he should've been taken in the top 5.

Incredible junior player.

I hope Dumais gets to play in a few NHL games next Fall, not because I think he'll be NHL ready (probably not) but because he really needs a deep sense of what he has to improve and how much stronger he'll have to get. The Q isn't going to give him the resistance he needs.

That's precisely what some of us would dispute, and why we'd like to see him in a harder league. He's making it look too easy, and not playing pro style because he doesn't have to.
Absolutely agreed. Let Dumais play against grown men and let a 17-18 year old get his playing time.

It helps Dumais's development with a higher challenge. It helps that younger player by giving him more ice time. It gives the NHL team more direct control over the in-season management of a player they have already drafted.

Just like with college sports, as long as the development levels are the same for all players, the product will be worth watching.

I disagree with you, i think he is NHL ready and i think its a no brainer that he ll play next seaaon in the NHL.

For me its obvious, but i guess not many agree.

Because i think, like i posted here last year, he was good enough in the top prospect tournament to challenge for the NHL spot this season, he was by far the best player there - but he never got the chance to do thar, i think that motivated him further

There is 0% chance Dumais is playing in the NHL next year. Except perhaps a couple of pre-season games. He is a project with much to work on...skating, defensive zone coverage and puck battles. We shall see if and when he makes the NHL.

The problem is its not a bunch of prospects competing for NHL spots. Its great he stands out among his peers but that doesnt mean hes NHL ready. He wont be overdeveloped in the Q or waste a year of development like some seem to believe.
