Not sure why fans are worried about JV not playing. It's game 2.

my guess is that they will evaluate both McCaan and Virtanen over the next 15 or so games during which both players will sit out at times.

McCann gets the start (and he's earned it)... but Virtanen will come in and be evaluated as well.

The club will decide after that point (game 15 or so) if they keep one both or neither.

I wish they would just send him down already... ridiculous to keep him up in NHL and not play at all. I realize he is in that category that happens yearly with prospects where it's NHL or junior, but it's never ever a bad thing having him play regularly... let him go back and have a huge year and a huge WJC and do it all over next year

Making his debut tonight. They should given him a home game for his debut but I guess they might have wanted to keep the pressure of his back for now.

Hope he has a great game.

Its actually very common for teams to start rookies on the road so nobody has any expectations of them.........well except Connor Mc David I suppose.

Played under 8 minutes tonight.

Send the kid down already. It's not like he dominated the WHL last year.

I agree he's not ready.

But the reason he only played 8 minutes tonight wasn't because of his play. It's because "1-2-3" Willie think playing Dorsett and Prust is the best way to lock down a hockey game. And then once you give up the lead, continue to rely on Dorsett and Prust to try to tie the game up. JV, McCann and Baertschi were all <10 minutes.

They have been benching him in close games. Today he didn't get a shift for nearly half the game. If you have no faith in him, then why even keep him on the roster.

Exactly.

I don't care if he stays up or gets sent down but either way he needs to play more than 8 mins a night and should be in at least a middle 6 role.

So at this point, I think he should be sent down because WD refuses to give a rookies opportunities to prove themselves.

Send him down.

8 Min ice time, No PP time, no nothing, pointless for his development.

He's supposed to get handed PP ice-time? He hasn't earned anything, he's playing terrible and doesn't deserve to be on the roster. It's that simple, you don't give players playing poorly PP time, that's the most corrupt thing I've ever heard. Virtanen gets time to prove himself, every shift he gets is a chance and he gets stuck in the defensive zone everytime so what do you want Willie to do? Keep Virtanen out there for 15 mins so we can intentionally lose the game? I don't get it.

You have to have the coach's confidence and trust to be able to excel as a player. I am not saying he should be playing on the 1st line but he deserves to be put in a position to succeed. Either you give him a longer leash or you send him down. I also think the idea of the kid line is not a good one.

The confidence has to start from shifts, then to games. He got a spot because he played well in pre-season, now it's regular season and it is time to win games not to see if Virtanen will make the team. Virtanen just simply doesn't give the best chance to win because he still needs to adapt but even more, mature as a hockey player and get rid of the junior habits. Prust and Dorsett believe it or not are more reliable but also create more offensive chances, they at least get offensive zone time. He's had a few shifts in the game with the "kid line" everyone wanted and it failed twice so I think Virtanen comes out and takes a step back to think about his game. Virtanen has been all over the line-up playing different amounts of ice-time, his tools are really nice but he's not ready yet. Willie would send him down if he could but I think Benning and management is pushing Virtanen and McCann on Willie and trying to get them on the team.

We went through this crap with Cody Hodgson. Now its the coaches fault. His linemates fault blah blah.

The coach is trying to win hockey games. At least McCann scored some goals.

When we finally calm down and accept the fact he aint ready, the bright side is we dont have to burn a year of his ECL which may very well pay off a few years from now.

I would agree it's probably for the best to send them down.

But if the WD is trying to win games, I don't know how having Dorsett as your most played player in the third period is going to accomplish that.

We have them for 9 games. Let's see what they got.

Where did my post say anything about PP time?

And if Virtanen hasn't earned a spot: No biggie, just send him the **** down already. That's the point. He needs to play whether it's the the NHL or WHL.

I was confused too but he was replying to the other post he quoted.

I would agree but the NHL games arent personal training grounds for Virtanen and Mc Cann. They are contests to win games so the Canucks can hopefully make the playoffs.

I understand Mc Cann is kind of getting the shaft here because he has produced to a limited degree but Jake has produced nothing.

Its not because he 'sucks' or the world is out to 'get him' either. Its because he is physically ready but mentally not even close.

I wonder, who watched him play last season in junior and the AHL and thought he looked close to NHL ready in terms of hockey sense and IQ?

Willie read all the complaints and decided to reduce his ice time even further. 5 min tonight, at the very least the kid has the best seat in the house to watch the game.
