Just saying that Pastrnaks AHL stats doesnt make him a steal. His 2 good games in NHL doesnt make him a steal. Just wait how he performs for two seasons in NHL and then analyze. Christ ...

This is the "prospects general hockey discussion board" on a site called "hockey futures". I don't think discussing the possible hockey future outcomes of a prospect hockey player ought to be considered unreasonable ;)

I'm psyched about Pastrnak's play so far also, but people really do need to pump the brakes a little here - it's only been two games. We'll see how the kid does now that the news is out and other teams start focusing on him more.

Sure looks like he has some great potential though, and exciting offensive potential (something the Bruins need badly).

It's actually been 8 games, and he's looked great in every game he's played. He's had numerous opportunities each game he's played in, and has not looked out of place at all.

Aside from his first game when he only played 7 minutes - he's averaged 4 SOG a game, with just over 7 shot attempts a game.

That's awesome.

While true, it's okay for people to be excited about young players. Hell, if he was playing for the Ducks, I would be too.

He's looking like a star. I hope he eventually becomes a Dallas Star.

Fast, good hands, good hockey IQ. He's got a future in the NHL. I've only seen the highlights of his NHL games though and in those he looked really damn good. He also stood out in the World Juniors.

In conclusion, #Y^#$&#%@&%*%^*%@^@#$

Looks like his insane stats last season in Sweden were not simply a product of Nylander but rather of his own skill, his PPG was absurd for the age and league he was in. Thought he would surprise some people but certainly not nearly as fast as he has.

I really thought that Nylander and Fiala were pretty far ahead of him in terms of development. Seems like I was way off if Pastrnak keeps this up.

I think thats mostly due to the vast improvements he's made to his skating and agility. One year ago we has slow, average on his edges, and kind of clumsy for being so skilled. He's done a complete 180 there. Now he is quick, powerful, and very light on his feet.

For the type of skill player he is, that makes a huge difference.

Just to clear things up, Pastrnak has always been a good skater. He also put up most of his points before last christmas when Nylander wasn't on his team.

Disagree. He wasn't a terrible skater, but he definitely lacked the explosiveness he has now. This was last year's WJC:

Compare that video to his goals last night - watch him streak down the wing on the 1st. That's a much faster player than from a year prior. And on his 2nd goal, that's a much quicker player than from a year ago:

For a player of his skill level, skating was certainly something that needed a lot of work. His hands, vision, and release were already NHL caliber.

I don't think the reason why he went 25th was his skating... I think most of it comes down to the fact he was injured late in in the year.

As I said earlier in the thread I'm not a huge prospects dude but I do occasionally lurk on this board and generally click on the links posted to the rankings made by the various scouting services. IIRC Pastrnak was a guy who generally started the year outside the first round and by the time he was injured was starting to scratch the top 10. He ended up getting hurt and it limited the exposure he needed, as a 'late riser', to cement his spot as a high first round pick.

Everything looks much faster on the smaller ice. I first saw Pastrnak play when he was 16 and skating has always been one of his better assets. He's scored nice goals off the rush many times before.

I've had season tickets to the Bruins over 30 years and sit second row behind net and dont have to leave my seat to shake hands with goal judge- so I can tell you, Pastrnak reminds me of Peter Klima. My impression he appears dangerous like he is ready to pounce and has quick hands and a quick burst. Because my youngest likes to go to Providence games I've also seen him probably 8 times this year- but in no game in Providence did he play as well as the other night. He shows wtf skills at times, but the other night he could have had 4 goals with those chances. He was in on everything.

I am not sure what the long term plan is where to play him but putting him with Lucic and Krejci looks like a blend of skills that could work very well for Boston

Why does Nylander's name appear in every player's thread? Its really quite strange.

Because Leafs.

I'm glad the kid got to stay on the team. Truly astounding what he's doing in the NHL as an 18 year old. Still just a kid but he's already this good...

Strange/irritating.

Just like when Seguin broke out in 2012, whenever a thread was made you'd see "Yeah he's good but Kessel is better"

Odd it's the same team. ;) But this time I don't even know why. They were drafted almost 20 picks apart and have no connection to eachother besides the fact that they're good friends... But by trade/whatever, no connection at all
