I like Atas's posts but I think he sometimes lets his emotions overwhelm his judgment.

Like most Russian posters I don't like it when Russian prospects leave for the CHL. I don't think it is good for them.

But it is very clear that Abramov has made improvements to his game this season. He has played well after a slow start.

There are some issues to his game, mainly his lack of size and and strength on the puck. But he is still an excellent prospect and I think Russian posters should be more supportive.

I will stay true to my pretty practical decision made a while ago to not waste my time and attention and emotions too on Russians leaving too early. It's their decison to make. Pretty much always a mistake in my opinion. I just live with the fact that 90% of them are a loss for russian hockey.

If any of them at some point in time emerges as a useful asset it would be an unexpected bonus. I don't wish them to fail. I just don't expect them to succeed as in reaching their potential.

As for Abramov I think the fact that his parents have the wrong attitude will have a negative influence on his development. And I feel bad for Chelyabinsk failung to rise to significance in the KHL despite having the most productive hockey school. At least we in Kazan have the money to make up for losing home grown talent. It is still a major concern. Why should we invest into developing Svechnikovs?

If Abramov will become a meaningful hockey player, so be it.
But call me when he is worth a discussion as a NT player. And as a winger that might never happen.

And in addition to what Crede said, nobody's claiming the draft is a "perfect" measuring stick. But to claim that draft position has zero indication of the quality of a prospect is just silly. Silly I say!

It is not silly at all I say following recent drafts.

Probably the only ruined prospect to lead a CHL league in scoring.

Could he get a tryout in NHL next year?
No way. The roster is already loaded and that's before you consider other guys that will be pushing for roster spots like Dubois, Milano, Zaar, etc.

Unfortunately, he's probably going back to the Q. I don't believe he's AHL eligible because he was drafted out of the CHL and he wasn't on loan a la Nylander.

There goes another russian prospect...

I think that Atas meant that Abramov won't gain anything from another year in the Q aside from a risk of stagnation. And to be honest I also have such concerns, imo, loaning him to Europe for a year would be the ideal solution here.

Not next season, as he was drafted out of the CHL.

2015 draft, Wings drafted Russian Svechnikov out of the CHL. He played one more year in the 'Q', and this year is in the AHL.

2016 draft, Jackets drafted Russian Abramov out of the CHL. He played ore more year in the 'Q'.....why couldn't he be in the AHL the same year Svechnikov did?

Cause Svechnikov is a late b-day

Because Svechnikov is 1996 born, but Abramov is 1998 born - next season only 1997 born players (from the ones drafted out of the CHL) will be eligible.

Better then WHL and OHL?

And Abramov would probably be playing against men already in Europe.

No he's wrong, unless he means the CHL as a whole. But Q definitely is not the best of the 3, maybe for Russian players.

Bjorkstrand was really hurt by an extra year in junior eh?

At the end of the day talent is nice but if the work ethic isnt there to match it then it doesnt matter who you are. If a player wants to sulk and cry because they arent in the NHL yet then thats on them not the league Abramov seems to have the right attitude so good on him.

Sometimes you get a Kucherov and sometimes you get a Filatov (developed in Russia). there is a reason the draft and following prospects is so fun, being a talented junior player doesnt mean you will have an NHL career

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Filatov developed in NA, left Russia in his draft year.

Kucherov developed in Russia mostly.

You don't consider the different level of talent. Ovechkin, Malkin kind of players can play in the NHL at age 18, most players can't. Kucherov was an exceptional talent at age 18. Filatov was a washed up nice guy who could speak some English so he got picked early.

You turn things inside out by comparing those two.

IF Abramov is that good(which is not cut in stone for me because the Q is no proper indication) he would be playing in the KHL by now, That is by far better than anything NA has to offer for his development. Whether it is dominating the Q or playing in the AHL. If he is stuck in that maze for another year he is likely taking a step back in his development.

i think he whould. i'd be much more preferable to playing a couple of meaningless seasons in the chl for some bum team.
