ITT, playing in the CHL +1 draft year is meaningless.
yes, the next year for sure. this year is not entirely lost, but again it'd be much more preferable to play in an adult league. some highlights i see there are plain cringeworthy. there's just nothing to gain at that level of competition.

I think there should be some type of compromise here.

Columbus sends him to Chelyabinsk for three years, in exchange for not losing that extra year of development in the QMJHL.

After two years, Columbus is allowed to recall him, if he's good enough to make their NHL team, but with a KHL clause. After three years, he is sent back to Columbus, and if he doesn't make the team, he goes back to Chelyabinsk.

If Abramov's development would be best suited by playing professionally, then maybe a year in the SHL. It's not the KHL, but teams offer 1 year contracts. It would be equivalent of playing in the AHL.

As a smaller player, he's going to need more time to physically develop. Another year of junior would be fine as long as he's getting good coaching, is being challenged to improvement and not picking up bad, lazy habits.

It kinda feels wierd that not SHL-clubs tries to sign CHL players. Frölunda should be all over players like Abramov, Strome etc etc. They have a track record of developing young players, and I don´t think NHL clubs would be against it if their only choice is CHL or SHL.

2 assists for Abramov and 1 goal for Boland, so Vitali leads by 1 point and each play their last game tomorrow.

Abramov plays fellow Jacket Dubios in a game between 2 playoff teams, but Bolands team has to win and get help in order to make the playoffs, so they will skate him to death I am sure.

I agree that he would learn more in an adult league as you say, but you can't evaluate his development by watching some highlights. The CHL is a pretty common path for player to reach the NHL and it showed results. Plus letting him in a weaker league allows him to work on some other aspect than producing offense as his defensive play, which is very important in today's NHL.

Congrats to Vitalii Abramov for the Q scoring championship. For the record, the last European player to lead the Q in scoring... Was a pretty good player in his own right (and did it on his Draft+2 year, while Abramov did it on his Draft +1 season).

Haaa... Another one from the "whatever fact supports my argument, even if it doesn't" school!

Really though. Abramov scored 93 and 104 points in the Q at 17 and 18 years old in his 1st and 2nd season. Didnt take him until he was 19 and in his 3rd year to start producing. Garland doesnt have any crazy skill that ever made him a top prospect and he never really got much attention for that reason, kind of like Adam Brooks

This kid has so much potential. Its like Bjorkstrand a few years ago. He went on to lead us to a AHL title and the. Come up at the deadline and dominate until he was cheap shotted and taken out for quite a while now.

I knew we got a steal when we drafted this kid but I expected him to be much more raw, let's see if the monsters give him a shot here down the stretch or playoffs if the make it and see if the big boys can stop him.

Maybe he won't be sent back the Q next year and everyone concerned for his development can chill out.

He will have to be absolutely amazing to make Columbus and is too young for the AHL so the Q is the prime option. He'll be fine there, I dont think he'll be over developed and ruined

nope, that'll be detrimental to his development. but he's no other option so let's pretend it's all just fine.

Well, my point was that if he remains a PPG player in the AHL playoffs and has a good camp in the summer, it won't be that shocking for him to make the Blue Jackets out of camp.

The point is valid. While I hardly think it would hurt his development that much going back to Gatineau, he has demonstrated he is ready to graduate from that level of hockey. He's the league's best player and the AHL might be best for him. He might consider the KHL for a year and some $ as well. But similar to Drouin, it's not like Abramov is clearly ready to be a NHL top 6 forward either, so going back wouldn't really be that bad I suppose.

The Blue Jackets might give him 8 games and keep him with the team for a spell, just to mix things up for him (similar to what the Sens did with Chabot this year, although he only played 1 game, he stayed with the team for a month). And while they are deep at forward, Abramov is a bit different than any of their current wingers and might be seen as a good fit in the top 9 and on a 2nd PP unit. He has a unique skill set so they might give him an extended look of he wows in the preseason.

I think he has a shot at making CBJ roster next year. That's the place he will learn the most IMO.

Saad-Wennberg-Foligno
Jenner-Dubi-Atkinson
Hartnell-Karlsson-Bjorkstrand
Calvert-Sedlak-Anderson

A lot of that lineup will be back unless 1 is picked in tbe expansion draft and the only other thing i think would possibly happen is if the team really feels it needs a proven scorer and makes a move.
The only expiring contracts are Korpikoski who is as good as gone and Gagner who I'm not sure if the team will be willing to pay what he wants unless its a very fair asking price. Abramov will be competing with Dubois and Milano among others but to be fair he already seems to have better qualities and mindset then Milano. I see no reason the team wont handle him like they did Bjorkstrand who is similar in terms of tons of skill and a slight build

I don't see him making the roster next season.

This is a prime example of a kid needing to play in the AHL but can't.
