Too bad he didnt stay in Chelyabinsk. He'd have had reasonable minutes in the KHL this year, and next year probably would be top 2 line player. Unlike an Ak Bars or whoever, Traktor is renound for giving young guys a chance. Instead he'll be stuck playing way below his talent level next year.
I'm pretty sure he's signed an ELC, which means he's under control and contract of an NHL team, the KHL respects those. Now, if he wasn't under contract to an NHL team it might be a different story. As of now, the Blue Jackets have to offer him back to Gatineau, as they have first refusal under the NHL/CHL transfer agreement. As far as I understand the KHL hasn't to respect the CHL contracts, so he can get back, if he wishes. And if not, then it's his problem...
Any chance he's called up for the playoffs?
They can't without offering him back to Gatineau first, who will never decline that option. Goldobin got around it somehow, but I'm not exactly sure of the specifics of how that was done. But, according to the transfer agreement, he can't be offered to any other team outside of Gatineau according to the CHL/NHL agreement. But, I don't think Goldobin had signed his ELC until he had already started playing for HIFK, which may have been a way it was bypassed. I'm not sure if we ever got a clear explanation on how the Sharks were able to do it. I know in other cases, the players were on Loan, or in Yakupov his agents voided the CHL agreement.the Blue Jackets can still loan him to europe, if they choose to do so. its just that it doesn't happen often.
Now if only other Q players take this route. Wish PLD did the same.
Since he was drafted out of the QMJHL, he can't go to the AHL yet, correct? So it's either Columbus or Europe for him I guess.
Interesting situation to monitor.
Does Traktor owns his rights in KHL?
Or can he go to a lesser team with more playing time?
