They are starting a three game road trip against Winnipeg, Minnesota and us, let's see where they stand after that.

Well, five of out-of-town games to follow tonight (Tuesday)...
Panthers @ Bruins: Just goes to show a GM can decide to mail in the season but that doesn't mean the players aren't still playing. Bruins had a big win vs Tampa the other night and now they get the other Florida team. Panthers seem loaded and primed for another playoff run after the TDL. This one will be emotional as Marchand will play his first NHL game in Boston as a visitor.
Sens @ Flyers: The Flyers might be quickly fading into the "toast category" but hoping they find a little magic tonight. Sens played a tight emotional game last night, hoping the Flyers can surprise them...but I don't have high hopes. Ullmark was outstanding making 48 saves last night, maybe either he is tired or he gets the night off. My guess is Forsberg plays tonight and Ullmark starts two nights later vs Boston and two nights after that vs Toronto.
Rangers @ Jets: Rangers are the closest team chasing us, hoping the Jets play like the Jets tonight and win this in regulation. Jets on a Metro run...in March this will be there sixth game having already played Flyers x2, Isles, Devils, Canes and now Rangers (yes the last four were a road trip East but the bookends beginning and end are at home).
Habs @ Canucks: Both teams fighting for a WC spot. Both teams have had hot and cold streaks. Hoping that home cooking sends the Habs home losing in regulation. Doubly, would like to see Canucks win because Wild are struggling and maybe Flames and Canucks can both push the Wild out of the WC improving our first round pick (I know it's a long shot). Wild play Avs tonight so their struggles could continue.
Isles @ Kings: Isles just won't go away and call it quits. See what they can do without Brock Nelson. Let's go Kings! Think about this, If the Isles win and Rangers and Habs both lose tonight, the Isles would be #3, the top chaser behind the two WC spots.
Bonus: Avs @ Wild: As mentioned above, cheering for the Wild to lose and maybe improve our first round pick from the Jiricek trade. Avs have won six in a row and got better at the TDL. A Wild loss and Canucks win could make things a little interesting though time is running out. Need Wild to go on a real losing streak.

I’m more worried about them next year. They should bounce back.
Canes, Devils, Toronto, Lightning, Panthers, and Sens should be in the playoffs next year. You never know with injuries, etc., but those seem like they could be.
Capitals are weird - is this just a magical season for them and Ovi or is there more there? I could see them missing next year.
Red Wings, Jackets, and Rangers should be in the hunt. Maybe Montreal.
Buffalo, Boston, and Flyers are likely to be bad. Boston might be able to retool this off-season but I think they need another year to retool.
Pittsburgh and Islanders should tank.

Two seasons ago everyone thought the Bruins were gonna suck and they won the Presidents Trophy. Last season everyone thought the Devils were an easy pick for the playoffs and they missed badly. Last year the Rangers in the President's Trophy and this year they might miss the playoffs. You never know.
In reality, it is rare for there to be a lot of turnover in the playoff teams from year to year. This year in the East might be an exception with the potential for three teams to swap in and out of the playoffs.

I get it. Team progression isn’t linear. We could step back next year. And good teams can have hangovers from deep runs or just not click for some reason. I think New York will make more off-season moves if they miss the playoffs and be competitive next year.
The Lightning are a fascinating - Stanley Cup finals loss, conference finals loss, missed playoffs, conference finals loss, swept by the CBJ, won the Cup, won the Cup, Stanley Cup finals loss. That is an 8 season stretch where they played for the Stanley Cup 4 times and played in the conference finals 2 other times, but they missed the playoffs in the middle of their run.

Latvian Flyers fan coming in peace; I haven't been ar-ed to follow NHL lately because of too much stuff happening in life and PHI being a s--tshow; so here's my genuine question - if CBJ make the playoffs, who's the goalie starter most likely?

Uhm, I don't know? I don't read the Latvian comment sections, it makes my head hurt, but if we look at my closest buddies it's Devils, Penguins, Sabres, Boston; and then a guy who is generally very informed, but not a fan of any team in particular. So, quite a mix. Ofc also quite a few people following those teams that have Latvians in them currently (Merzļikins/CBJ, Girgensons/TBL, Šilovs/Bļugers/VAN, Ābols/PHI).
Not sure about Estonia or Lithuania, tho, I think they have only one serious team each (both playing in Latvian championship), so it's not that big of a sport there.

I'm 1/2 Lithuanian, I was just curious, thanks. Lithuania is 100% basketball crazy, not a surprise hockey is a minor sport there, like football.
