i agree with that

clowe > zubrus

but on this roster is clowe is a 1st line option. others hes a 2nd 3rd line option. amazing we resigned zubrus this summer

While I agree its not great to have Clowe as a first liner, its all about chemistry right now. we have pockets of chemistry in the team (Henrique - Elias, Zajac - Jagr) and its about finding the right fit for them, even if it means rolling 3 even lines

Guys had him as a top priority. No wonder they are stoked about Ruutu.

Possible reasons Carolina traded Ruutu? H'mm let's see.

1)Bad contract
2)Oft injured
3)Slow
4)awful season, including worst +/- on the team?

Is that a full myriad?

ever heard of a player getting traded because it wasn't a good fit?

man, why the hell did the stars trade for seguin??! idiots! Boston let him go for a reason..

That's the goal I that comes to mind for me with Ruutu. A long, long time ago he was #1 on The Hockey News' Future Watch issue. Pic courtesy of HabsFan18's awesome thread of old THN issues: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=521282

I had to double-check and make sure that the Team he scored on wasn't the Devils. Those Jerseys look awfully familiar....

idk what happened here, but drinking was part of a myriad that wasn't mentioned before. players who are good, but not a good fit for their team, get dealt. all the time.

good point.

gionta scored the gwg in the final min. lets throw him out there all the time in the final min of the game.

Missed point.

Clowe started the play that created the goal

Gionta had no involvement in that final play other than tipping it in

Very big difference

So does anyone here feel a bit better about this deal now that Lou got a first-rounder back(#30)? :sarcasm:

Not to beat a dead horse but we essentially traded Lokti and a 2017 3rd-rounder for Ruutuu(20% salary paid by the Canes), a 2014 1st(#30), and some cash. #NotBad

yeah good thinking lets put together the team we had in the 90s. that has to work in 2014 right?

I love how you slam everyone's posts, who were in favor of this trade, but offer NO alternative to what YOU would have done differently yesterday. This is the best trade we could make, that could improve this squad, under the circumstances.

A little late for the party, but here's my $0.02 on the Ruutu trade.

While it wasn't really a "great" move that wipes away the scoring woes, I think acquiring a player with good reputation was a proper move to make, especially when putting it into a context. The deadline is a pretty delicate situation to bring in new players or substract them especially now when the margin for error has grown thin.

I think it was for the best that Lou chose not to rock the boat and stir the dynamics of the dressing room. As of now, the new acquisitions need to be shoe-ins, since there's not really an adjustment period available for fine tuning the lineup and searching chemistry.

I guess only time will tell, how it translates on the ice, but at least on paper Ruutu fits the bill as a player who is able to contribute from the get go on whichever position he's put into. Hopefully this turns into a trade and like the first Ponikarovsky trade, and the Devils wind up getting a useful individual in Ruutu and settling the depth chart, namely pushing Gionta and Bernier out of top 9.

Exactly. They gave up a fringe NHL'er, who may not even be in the league next season, for someone who fits the system and has a proven track record in the playoffs. This really isn't worth complaining about.

Originally I wasnt a fan of this trade. Thinking about it now thinking about it now I actually like it. seems like a perfect fit to the system. Definately more of a move so that clowe can get some top line time. Gave up very little in return and if he can score 5-10 goals in the remaining 20 games then im perfectly fine with it. He will definately add something to our forcheck which wont show up on the stat sheet

how petty is this that im not happy that there are blue devils practice jerseys  :o ….green em up!

that is weird, and never noticed them, looks like only a few guys wear them, are they injured/non contact jerseys or something like that?
but they should be green not blue !

I could be wrong, but I thought there were a few colors and they usually corresponded by lines. Could have sworn on the 2003 championship DVD that they had practice footage and Turner Stevenson was wearing a green jersey. The one Ruutu is wearing is definitely an early 2000s CCM practice jersey.

He's a much better version of Ponikarovsky.

Yup. My comment wasn't really intended to compare Ruutu and Poni as individuals. I brought up the 2012 Ponikarovsky trade, because it turned out to be a valuable move that most importantly set the depth chart and gave the Devils four competetive lines to roll with. And as an individual Poni added another dimension into the forward group. I'm waiting/hoping/sensing that Ruutu to have a similar effect on this year's lineup.

ok last post by me on this as i dont want to derail this thread anymore. sorry about that.

im guessing there could many different ways to break it up depending on the day's theme…… if the practice was line related then each line would have a colour and a set for the D …or sets for PK vs PP….. if its more scrimmage then only 2 different …..and yes, i know teams (like in football for the QB) use special jerseys for non contact players……

there are 30 teams and many ways to break it all down…..i saw stamkos in red with red socks when he came back …really stood out
