Yeah this is starting to get a bit out of hand. Honestly I hope Chwvy can find a trade that works soon and we can stop all this speculation. I think it's as simple as he doesn't want to be here.
Always a possibility but the kid seems really sure of himself and thinks right or wrong that he should be given a roster spot, the rest is just noise.

If he's so sure of himself he'd have no issue winning one. Seems to me he's not so sure of himself if he needs guarantees.

But I'm getting a bit sick of talking about a player who is no longer part of the solution here.

Until he is traded there is always a possibility that he signs and then it's all water under the bridge. forgive and forget, everything is peachy keen.

why can't it be as simple as he wants to play in the nhl, the reason that has been reported by multiple people, I don't why it has to be different then that...

I think Chevy will be happy to give him assurances of getting a roster spot next year. I don't think he'll help him burn a year by signing right after the NCAA season.

I think Rutger would sign next summer. I don't think he WANTS to go back to college for one more year, let alone two more years.

The best path forward is a win-win trade. Barring that, I think it's very possible that Rutger plays with the Jets in 2025-26.

Sure that's the stated reason, but it seems flimsy to me because as of now there is a top 6 spot open on the team and he'd likely be the front runner to win it. How much more of an opportunity to play in the NHL should he realistically expect? Even the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets aren't gifting spots to prospects without them earning them. Hence Jiricek and Johnson spending lots of time in the AHL last year due to not performing well enough and Savoie being traded recently due to being blocked.

It just seems strange to me that they had such a huge falling out over him not being gifted a starting spot on a 4th place team that had loaded up at the deadline.

I think if that was the case then that would have been the stated reason. Does far less damage to him than the story of these demands.

In fact the easiest thing is to simply demand a trade and say no more.

Nino Niederreiter 5 OA NYI 2010 9 games 10-11 season
Rasmus Kupari 20 OA LA Kings 2018 7 games 20-21 season

Didn't do the defensemen as their development tends to be longer.

Only putting it here for perspective relative to draft position and number of games in the player's first season. Obviously some came in quickly, some less so. Some substantial underperformers relative to their draft position as well. Atlanta had something of a trend of "rushing" players from a certain perspective, but lots of other teams in there.

I'd say that happening is incredibly slim at this point.
Agreed.

I also think there is no rush in making a deal right now. GMs are in summer vacation mode where things get done at a slower pace. RFA contracts are discussed but usually not signed until training camp. I don’t think we see a Rutger deal now until the TDL at the earliest unless Chevy is blown away by an offer, which I don’t see happening. No rush to get Rutger into the fold, and Chevy is uncommonly patient.

So have a big year in college Rutger and increase that value of yours.

where were you canoeing?

i really need to get out to fish one of these days. just sitting here staring at the water, but there's a million projects to do first. :(
I find that canoeing and fishing is a combinatory elixir... an old plaque on my cabin wall reads that "Allah does not deduct time from man's life spent fishing".

Projects can be intercalated with fishing. :) In between fixing up the cabin with some new furniture (south of Wanipigow) I canoe in the Manigotagan river, or in Lake Winnipeg itself. This is about 100 km up the East side across from Black Island - its transitional boreal biome, a lot like the Whiteshell, but with black granite rather than pink. The fishing is really good.

Very eloquently stated as usual.

For me true relaxation is achieved on a day like yesterday. I was alone cleaning my cottage and doing all tasks before leaving back to the city. The temp was 30, sunny, and it was windy. I walked down to the dock and jumped in for a swim. After that incredible refresh I just sat in the sun in the chair in the breeze and listened to the wind in the trees and the two loons fishing and interacting with their two babies they had this year. The wind and the loons sound with no other electronics or noise was a spiritual moment for me knowing that time was fleeting and I would need to pick up my son from his job.

It’s something I can get at the lake that I just can’t duplicate.
