Wanted to see Khokhlachev make it, guys been on a tear recently. 1.6 ppg pace in the past 10 games and sits 6th in league scoring. Other guys as previously mentioned deserved a spot over like Kablukov like Golyshev, Tkachyov and Kagarlitsky. For sure Tryamkin and I would pick Markov over few of the dman picked.

Did not like how the team was picked especially from only three teams, but was not surprise at all that Znorak did that. Fortunately for Russians they are still the HEAVY favorite to win

erm, idk what rosters other nations are sending but this does not seem fair

Russia clear favorite ?

It is true that Russia has the most accomplished roster, at least so far, but it is too early to hand out the Gold Medals yet. There are several reasons why the Russians shouldn't be too confident:
For one, Znarok is the coach. This means that the team will likely have no strategy, no tactics, no game plan of winning, and no defensive zone exit strategy. Also, it remains to be seen whether the team will be motivated enough to be willing to fight to win. I don't mean drop their gloves - I mean battling hard to win every shift on the ice. There will be several good teams that will gain chemistry as the tournament goes on, and they will have nothing to lose when they meet up with the Russians. They will lay everything on the ice, and if the Russians don't respond with equal emotion and intensity, they could lose.

It's been reported that Nichushkin would not have made the team even if he had not been banned. But why would Telegin make the roster over Nichushkin? They play on the same team, but Nichushkin has more points, average TOI, hits, blocked shots, has taken fewer penalties, etc. Telegin takes faceoffs, but has been bad at it this year (45.7%).

Because Telegin is arguably the best ‘role player’ on the team. He has hands of wood, but other than that he’s big, gritty, plays with energy, can skate, play any forward position and is good defensively. Telegin and Andronov will likely make up the core of the checking 4th line.

With Znarok as head coach Gretzky would not have made the team, let alone Nichushkin

One Telegin would be more than enough, and we added Andronov, Kablukov, and the gang of Znarok's grinder friends. I'm shocked that Lyubimov and Ketov didn't make the team, those are the true surprises to me as regards of the "snubs", not Shalunov or Markov.
Today's interview with Mikhailov was great: "countering lines", but whom do we have to counter? Our forwards should score goals.

I think the team is fine. It is good enough to win on paper, to put it mildly. If they lose they will lose for other reasons than names.

That's true too. In spite of Znarok being Znarok, other teams are still a no-match and so it should continue during the tournament itself. But again, Znarok will always be Znarok, so we can range from being gold medal winners to 8th place.

While what you say makes sense, Telegin has played on scoring lines for Znarok in the past.

My memory might be failing me, but I believe he played with Datsyuk at World Cup.

I hope that sorokin will be the starting goalkeeper
What will expect about the D lines?

Did OAR have to only pick players on the Russian preliminary big squad or could they have picked players from other countries had they wanted?
