I just saw the condition in the Duncs trade, which realistically is not going to happen, but for all accounts we could lose more than just a 3rd round pick in this deal. LOL wtf kind of a deal is this? so what I'm reading is Jones and a 3rd weren't enough?

*Conditions: If the Oilers make it to the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals and Keith is top 4 in playoffs TOI during the first 3 rounds, the pick upgrades to a 2022 2nd round
Well if that 3rd round becomes a 2nd round then I’m fairly sure the trade worked out. Haha.

It's probably not going to happen, but it also locks that pick up from being traded either way. Essentially, Holland cannot even consider trading either the 3rd or the 2nd. Another mind number.

This makes sense to me , its not enough because if Keith is top 4 in ice time we just traded for a top 4 D on a contending team for a 7th D and a 3rd...

Yeah, if the Oilers make the cup final we should be upset about Keith playing a big role in that.

This fanbase is insane

not at all what I'm saying. If Oilers make Cup finals, Yes I could care less if that pick goes from 3rd to 2nd, but am I not reading this correctly? that basically Jones + 3rd wasn't good enough to get Keith? lol

Well, for better or for worse the Keith deal is done and its time to move on-hopefully he rebounds and makes us eat our skepticism. Katz probably signed off on it when he saw that only 3.6M was actually left on the contract in the next 2 years--yup, what about the cap space is right-- but in the end its his money to spend and manage.

I think it seals the deal on the Kosko and Neal buyouts because no way can you meet the earlier off season goals if you are carrying approx. 10M in cap space on these two after having added 5.5M the day before.

I imagine that Holland (lots of miles on that guy by the looks of him) is probably making a few last minute phone calls to see what he can do with these 2 but with even fewer draft picks to dish out I don't see what he can throw in for sweeteners. The fat lady is clearing her throat.

You're right, even I'm hung up on the deal, but what's done is done.
Excitement level with Nuge signing took a turn, but hopefully we have an exciting next month with signings or trades

By the way, got some clarity on the Klefbom/cap space situation.

We have one of two choices:

1) be right under the 81.5 million limit when the season starts, LTIR Klefbom, and then have the 4.17 to use during the year

2) be as close to over 4.17 as we can be, LTIR him, and gain the full amount.

So, for example, if we're over by a little bit - say, we're at 83 million to start the season - that's it, we don't get any additional cap space for LTIRing Klefbom. I'm sure there will be some cap juggling to start the year, but as far as the offseason goes, it's not as simple as saying "we have this extra money to play with". We either need to be just under 81.5, or over by Klefbom's full cap hit, to take full advantage.

In a case like this (LTIR) does insurance cover part of the actual salary or is it out of Katz's pocket?

Well Jones was a healthy scratch on the regular and a third is not much.
