I mean the obvious answer is they want to protect Dumba, but now they just lost a ton of cap space and can't build around what they have as well.Sorry yeah, they get one year of savings, three years of virtually nothing and then 4 years of dead cap.
It would have been crazy if they bought one of them out but both is beyond comprehension. They're paying $42M in dead cap for the two of them in Years 2-4. That's unbelievably bad cap management, worse than anything Chia and Holland has done tbh.
Let's also not forget after year 1 there were lots of people wanting Zuccarello gone. Granted he had a good year, but they better hope he doesn't go back to having a bad year.
