Pesce would definitely cost more than Spurgeon because of his sweetheart contract. Either would be great though.

Still need a 3C unless they think Maroody is ready. Gagner + picks/prospects for Pageau? Benning for Riley Nash?

Brodziak 2.0 waiting to happen right there. The guy put up 12 points last year is 1.5 million more than Brodziak and has an extra year. Grabbing him would be a good way to insure that the team is looking to bury another contract next year the same way they need to bury Brodziaks this year.

Why? By every metric I can find Benning is his equal or better. Pysyk is also older and more expensive. This seems like a "grass is greener..." Type move that we dont need.

They're pretty close to equal in every metric, but the big difference is Pysyk was playing top4 minutes while Benning was playing extremely sheltered bottom pairing minutes.

Stauffer also mentions that 'Maroon might have to take 800,000.'

Personally I would be all over Maroon at that price.

He was our leading scoring natural winger during his time here, was great with connor and fits in with the core of the team. Would be crazy to not sign Maroon for that.

Yep and anytime Benning had to move up the lineup the opposition took his lunch money quite easily

Adds toughness too which is never a bad thing.

What are you actually talking about? Matt Benning is not as good, let alone better, then Pysyk.
Can you show me the stats that support that arguement? Cause all the ones I know show that while Benning played less minutes, he provided more.

Some people have a fantasy that Benning isn't an NHL dman and the Oilers D would magically be better if he were gone and they'll make up just about any type of fantasy narrative to support their bias and storyline.

I've nearly always stated that Benning is an NHL defenseman, however he's not as good or effective NHL defenseman as Mark Pysyk. Benning has good moments in his, but I would trade him all day for Mark Pysyk.

Guess they not going to sign Marner till after the season starts?

Everyone doing Vegas favours, not sure why I am surprised.

I don’t know but I hope this starts a ton of rumors on the Mains that Marner wants out and the Leafs have resigned themselves to accepting that Marner won’t be a Maple Leaf any longer.

You can bury an LTIR the day before the season starts if it's been going on for so many months, etc. It gets a bit rulesy but it is done.

Oilers did it with Sekera last year.

There has to be some rule that will help the Leafs here. Otherwise it makes zero sense.

If you can prove that a player will still be on the LTIR for 10 games or 24 days to start the season then he can go on LTIR during the offseason. So it doesn’t impact the Leafs cap situation at all as Clarkson will never play again. Also the contract is apparently 80% insured so all the Leafs have to pay in 200k in real dollars to Clarkson to essentially buy a 4th round pick and get rid of Sparks.

Gotta give Dubas credit if he has a handshake agreement now with Marner to sign after he puts Clarkson+Horton on LTIR. That's a creative solution.

Remember when Chia was trading Eberle away in a panic and buying out Pouliot a year early because he was so scared of an offer sheet? And then he ended up with 7M of cap space he never used? lol.
