We still need a 3rd line Center, a puck moving D and another top 6 winger. We’ll be lucky if we get one of those before the season starts.

You know the interesting thing about that...why was there so much attention on an aspect of a contract that was virtually unmovable? There was just so much smoke around the Lucic situation.
I kept posting on here that this thing just wouldnt go away. It kept coming up over and over again.
That was one of the reasons why I still thought there was going to be more moves.
The other reason was the Sekera buyout. Holland doesnt seem like the type of GM (Chiarelli) that does things without thinking them through. It seemed like a move that would set up future moves,

I dont think Holland is done yet.

It's so odd to see competent management again since what seems like Sather, perhaps even Muckler. Someone who can negotiate a trade without being bent over. Holland truly is 2 or 3 moves ahead. I really hope these moves calms the fanbase (for a little while).

I think the Oilers definitely get a center. Brian Boyle could be a nice addition.

If we can get a legit 3rd line Center, it’ll almost be like adding a top 6 winger, as it will allow Nuge to Center the 2nd line and Drai to play next to McDavid.

This will happen regardless of whether a C is added or not.

The only thing failing to add a full-time 3C will do is force the Oilers to play a primary winger, who has played C before, in that spot. Khaira, Granlund and Gagner have all done it. Some chance for Cooper Marody to get that as well.

Maybe briefly. But after awhile, I can foresee Nuge and Drai having to Center their own lines.

Always liked Boyle but I’m tired of vets at the very end of their career making Edmonton the one last stop for a cheque. In that situation I just don’t see them bringing in the passion required to get this team over the hump. I’d rather more bottom 6 spots be competition spots for these hopefuls we keep signing and our AHL prospects to make a mark. They’ll come cheaper and hungrier.

It feels like we are done but I think 1 more add, even if it were brian boyle type, as long as its a reliable consistent player that will pull in the right direction, would make me hopeful again.

Of course, everything we do is worthless if we dont get good goaltending and we will be flying on a wing and a prayer. Hopefully we can get average tending out of this tandem.

The JP situation will get sorted out in the next month I believe. Which likely means there will be one more piece (not Jesse) incoming.

C is easy ton of cheap options out there in FA who are getting cheaper by the day. Wing less so have to hope for either Brassard (better as a W now) or Maroon. But I am okay trying Benson in a top six job right away too

I would say right now 95% chance we get a C 65% chance we get a W. The only d-man rumoured to move is Risto but there could be a surprise one there. I bet you Holland has a target though and a plan to get all three he is just waiting on the prices to come down

If he does though those plus the Lucic trade is a incredible transformation in one summer

I could see Gagner for Frolik, then they sign Sheahan.

Drai - McD - Neal
Kassian - RNH - Chiasson
Nygaard - Sheahan - Frolik
Khaira - Haas - Granlund

I have a feeling we sign Sheahan, but I doubt we see another trade with the Flames. I think Treliving will have received a lot of backlash over the Lucic/Neal deal, and will be wary to make another player-for-player deal with us.

He and Holland are friends. They also save about 1M in cap if they make that trade, plus Frolik is the other guy who wanted out from Calgary.

Do you know if the Flames would save actual dollars with that deal? Their owner seems kind of cheap - I think that was the main incentive for them to make the Lucic/Neal trade - so if they save money the trade would seem more likely to happen.

Need to see if the Jets will trade either of Lowry or Copp.

Copp is a massive net positive player. I mean really massive when you look at advanced stats adjusted for QoC, QoT, zone starts etc relative to his teammates. The sample size is pretty large as well.

Whatever he's doing there he's doing it extremely well.

I'd certainly want the Oilers to be in on acquiring him if possible.

I didn’t check to be honest. I know they’re still pretty tight against the cap and they need to sign Tkachuk.
