Also a cheap option the the McDavid line that no one talks about it Maroon. He would come at 1 million or less. We all know he had success there as well and he can also be a bit of a body guard.

He has also gotten slower and less productive. The way the game is played today there is no need for slow unproductive bodyguards.

I would qualify Athanasio if he doesn't accept, then trade his ass.

Supposing what Rishaug said is accurate, that kind of sounds like AA is going to walk if the Oilers don't want to deal with both players on the same club.
Honestly I'd give AA another season to see if he can mesh well in a third line role.

With a team so starved for depth offense we can't afford to be picky with 30 goal scorers that are already on our roster.

If Pulju wants to come back I'd try and slot him with McDavid and try to find them a left winger after dumping Russell (Mike Hoffman perhaps?).

He's an RFA, he can't walk.

The smart money is to qualify him and then work on trading his rights.

We won't get back what we gave up but I don't think one 2nd or maybe a 3C is out of the question.

Yeah, Lowetide seems convinced that if Pulju comes back AA is gone to recoup a 2nd round pick, and if Pulju won’t come back he’s traded for a pick and AA remains. Not sure why you can’t keep both. Not sold on needing a 2nd in this draft. Could always get another 3rd for Benning or something and push the Neal pick to next year.

I'd like a 2nd in this draft but I don't be incredibly upset if we don't have one. Just need to draft intelligently later on...but we have Tyler Wright running our drafts now instead of Kretzky so who knows what slugs we might take.

I wouldn't qualify him. You try get him on a lessor deal for one year telling him if he does well there will be a payday. Maybe you have to give him security so then you look at 2 years, but 3mil doesn't seem like something I'd do.

I'd also be floored if he rejected a qualifying offer.

Gretzky is still in charge of the drafts. Tyler Wright works with him. I dont think that changed.
