Moves I would make:

JP to CAR for the 13th pick
Zack Kassian to PIT for the 15th pick (Jimmy loves his tough guys, i.e., Ryan Reaves)

We now have 13-14-15

13th - Yaroslav Askarov
14th - JJ Peterka
15th - Dylan Holloway

Even if we could convince Carolina and Pittsburgh to be that dumb. Those 3 picks remind me so much of Boston's 3 in a row failure.

Think the Leafs would ask for Nurse for Nylander.

I would have to consider, even though I don't want to thin the D, that would balance our forward group nicely.
Play hardball then.

They're the more desperate team. How many times have we gotten fleeced? It's time for us to (at least try to) win some trades.

Moves I would make:

Our 7th round pick for Ottawa's 3rd overall pick. Ottawa loves penny pinching and there's like a 2M cap hit difference in ELCs for lottery picks vs 7th rounders.

Nylander McDavid Kassian
RNH Draisaitl Yamo

Kelf Larsson
Jones Bear
Russell Benning

I would do the Nurse - Nylander trade (Leafs retain at least $1m). Nylander could be a great look with McD as he can play RW and LW

I was 1 of the 3 people to go with McWinger. The NHL is built on duo's and I don't think McDavid has a partner in crime with the DRY line in place and that's a line that was dominant to a point I just can't condone breaking it up.

While I'll agree we could use help in any of these area's I'd say defense is the one most likely to self correct just from individual player growth/maturation and I'm not talking next season it's all fixed, but over the course of 2-3 years it self rights for the most part, in a way that I don't think the other parts do if left unattended.

Goalies are voodoo, scout well, make an educated guess, and cross your fingers.

3rd C I just don't see a realistic fix given what's available and our cap limitations I think we'll have to do with another substandard part at 3C.

I'd buy-out Neal, I'm thinking next year is his wall where he just gravitates to full-time 4th liner for the majority of the year. It's reasonable to go one more year on him to minimize the buy-out window, but I'm comfortable pulling the plug now.

I'd look to trade Larsson unlike Russell I think he'll fetch something now instead of just at the deadline, either get the McWinger with him or recover some of the picks we burnt at the deadline, while freeing capspace.

With regards to Pulju I got zero clue how he fits in the mix (if he does come back).

Provided we get a pure skill guy for McDavid's LW I'm comfortable with a right side of Kassian, Yamo, Archibald, and Chiasson. I'm guessing we'll get a soft skill guy for McDavid's LW cause we likely don't have the cap for a well rounded jack of all trades top 6 guy, just want skilled and smart. With a soft skill guy I'm thinking Kass will be the proper compliment, with the others rotating through during Kass's lazy spells.

Yamo & Archie are great in their respective roles and I think Chiasson got a bit more flack than he deserved, Neal basically played the same role as him, so he lost some minutes there and still pro-rated to 30 points over 82 games which is pretty reasonable with a $2.15M pricetag, I don't see him ever being as hot as 18/19 again, but I think there's a mid-way point between that season and this season that can be his new normal.

I don't see AA as "the guy" for either Drai or McDavid, the hockey IQ isn't quite there and AA at his best he carries the puck a lot and we don't want him carrying a lot with either of those 2 studs on the ice. To me we got ourselves a Grabner type (minus the penalty killing) a solid solo rush offensive player when he's on his game, can put up a surprising amount of offense in a role with limited offensive support.

I'd be a little interested in AA and Pulju on the same line, not sure if it would be beautiful chaos or the Hindenburg.

I think Holland has his work cut out for him but I'm not as "doom and gloom" as some of the rest of the fans on here are after a brutal 4 game stint.

I'm not trying to make excuses because this team needs to get better. We dont need to blow the whole thing up every time we lose.

I think this was a good learning experience for some guys. We can give some guys a second chance in a lesser role and/or with better linemates. Look at how fans overreacted with Eberle after his brutal playoffs with us and now hes one of the Islanders best contributors.

I think you can keep McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Yamamoto, AA, Kassian, Archibald, Chiasson and maybe Sheahan for next season. Maybe you sign Sheahan as your #4 center if hes willing to take less money. Him and Archibald were a big part of a successful PK but cant be relied on as a 3rd line.

On the backend Jones, Russell and Benning were solid. If you need to move Russell/Benning for cap reasons I get it.

Our prospect pool has Broberg and Bouchard so I wouldnt call it shallow.

Finally a fan that is not a Debbie Downer. Im not putting too much into this Covid Cup. What happens if Chicago goes on and beats Vegas? I thought they played pretty good. Hawks are good and rebuilt quickly.
One thing I envision is moving the 14th pick along with Puju for scoring help

Well I like your enthusiasm , I don't think the teams will go for that. U would be lucky for a 2nd for those players listed

Regardless of how good McDavid and Drai are, if we roll with the same group of D, we will more or less finish with the same result.

This team has not had a top 25 Dman since Chris Pronger (i.e. 2006) which is flat out crazy.

I understand that no one likes to trade away a top 25 Dmen, but something must be done to upgrade this group.

Nurse, Klef, Lars and Russel all make between $4M and $5.6M. At least one of them needs to be traded with a prospect/pick for an upgrade. Somehow, Holland has to make that happen, and I actually trust him to pull this off.

Bear and Jones can round out the group, with Bouchard waiting in the wings for another year.

Lehner in goal(4/6).Resign Sheahan(1/925k) for the fourth line center and PK.

trade AA and Larsson to CBJ for one of Bemstrom, Jenner or Anderson and Savard.

if you can move Koskinen to a team, do it.
Maybe Carolina for Reimer as our back up for his remaining one year hit. Maybe we can pry Pesce from them as well as they’re loaded on the back end and have Svech and Mrazek to extend if we offer JP.

let the remaining UFA’s walk

Russell to Winnipeg for a pick
Bear on a bridge 2/3.5

Goaltending is an interesting one. I like Kosko, but he needs a running mate. There's a couple good UFA options (Lehner, Holtby, Greiss); but with the number of teams looking to blow up their crease (TOR, MINN, PITT, NASH(?)), I wonder if you could get a decent tandem goalie on the cheap as teams look to go in different directions.

On wing and defence, I'm not as sold that external help is needed. Rather they need a few guys that can bridge the way until when/if the kids are ready. Think like Yamamoto needing to simmer until new years to break out.

For the McWinger, I still like Benson, and maybe Puljujarvi. (plus both Neal and Kassian can also work well in spot duty)

On defence, I like Jones and Bouchard as puck movers to complement Klefbom, Nurse, Larsson, and Bear.

Even at #3C, I can see McLeod as the man of the future.

Overall I don't mind retaining Ennis and Green on cheap deals to keep the sit warm for Benson and Bouchard. Haas and Khaira will likely continue holding bottom 6 centre roles until McLeod and/or Marody wrestle them away (Though I wouldn't as comfortably bet on that one, as the Benson or Bouchard).

I also expect Holland to go out and grab a couple more vets like Granlund and Jurco. Established pros/vets, but ones you can set down to the AHL (if there is an AHL next year) to cover for injuries later, so you're not thrusting the kids into roles their not ready for. Euro UFAs like Haas, Nygard, and Persson also work well for this, as they can avoid waivers.
