And if Bouchard can't handle NHL minutes than you have what...Jones and...who on the bottom pairing?
There's countless guys out there that would sign for near league minimum and provide the same results in Benning's role.

I have a sneaking suspicion that they don't qualify him and let him walk.
Holland seemed very lukewarm on AA in his final presser and Stauffer was trashing him on the show yesterday which is sometimes an indication that the player could be on the way out.
If they are intent on not qualifying him, they need to trade him and recover some value.
At least they get a pick back and can use the $3M to sign a #3 center or goalie. Simply letting him walk would be real poor asset management on a Chiarellian level.
Maybe. We haven't had good experience signing any of the countless "Benning" level guys to league minimum. They usually play terrible in the third pairing and we have to trade them away or burry them. We bring those guys in and Benning wins the role over them. There's countless guys out there that would sign for near league minimum and provide the same results in Benning's role.
It'll be Russell out, Jones in and that's it. The same bottom 5 core will stay the same...with 2 of them regressing year after year.I just have a gut feeling that Holland won't do shit about our Dcore and we'll most likely go into next year with exactly the same personnel

Because actual NHL bottom pairing guys don't make league minimumWho was the last third pairing guy they brought in who didn't end up in the AHL/overseas after leaving the team?
Garrison, Petrovic, Gravel, Wideman, Manning, Davidson, Gryba, Pardy, Aulie, Fraser, Potter, Fistric.
I honestly don't know when was the last time they brought in an actual NHL bottom pairing option.
its going to be in shambles right from game 1 and tbh I don't even know how to fix itIt'll be Russell out, Jones in and that's it. The same bottom 5 core will stay the same...with 2 of them regressing year after year.

That near minimum wage defensemen aren't as good as Benning is unless they are on an ELC.Plenty make close to it and what does that have to do with the Oilers track record of bringing in AHLers and wondering why they fail?

Unless his intangibles is scoring goals...no thank youSomething I’ve been thinking about.
CBJ wanted AA at the deadline just as bad as we did, Eric Francis reported he was actually traded there before us. Andersen is reported to not be happy there after how his injury was handled and it’s pretty widely reported he will move. Would they be open to a 1 for 1? I think Anderson carries more “intangibles” so probably would need a sweetener.
I'd much rather him make $1-1.5 mill but a half mill overpay is not the end or the world. Rather a guy who we know works as a backup than another shot in the dark imo. I'd say 2 mill for one year is acceptableAHLers at league minimum are obviously worse than Benning.
Is that a case for why he should make $2M though?
Done.Something I’ve been thinking about.

I wonder if the play of Texier and Foudy in the playoffs might put a damper on their interest in AA.Something I’ve been thinking about.

I'm definitely one of the biggest Larsson fans here, but it might be time to move on. The back injuries are piling up. We should probably get a good return before another back injury ends his time as a top-4 defenceman. Unfortunate.

Do you have any suggestions of a bottom pairing guy making less than $2 mill that's clearly better than Benning that could be signed or acquired cheap?Does he work though? He's pretty firmly a guy who we know can play 10 minutes, but basically self destructs if he plays any more than that.
Without a true top pairing, you need more from your bottom pairing or you end up with what we have now. If you're going to willingly overpay someone, overpay someone who can play actual third pairing minutes. At the minimum overpay for someone the coach actually trusts to play on special teams if you're going that route.
