I don't know who reaches UFA next season but I'd rather two skilled wingers with contracts adding up to 7 million than RNH.

Eric Comrie on waivers- you would think the Oilers would be all over this having lost Forsberg and Groesnick
It seems like the Oilers are unwilling to carry 3 goalies. So I doubt they claim him now that Smith is healthy.

Also not sold Comrie is good enough to be even a #3 goalie.

I think they have to carry 3. Dylan Wells is their third goalie right now.

How about we keep Nuge AND spend 7M on 2 other forwards?
Oilers have 25M to spend this offseason. Buy out Neal and put Klefbom back on LTIR and we get even more.

Free agent market is projecting to be very weak. Ovi, Nuge and Barrie may be the 3 most productive UFAs.

I just don't see the Oilers being competitive as a top tier team in the NHL with the mix at hand and I find myself fantasizing about a top end shakeup on defense and forward. Goaltending too obviously.

I could be wrong but I just get angry watching this club. I look at the Leafs and they are 9 games over .500. Are the Leafs a contender for the cup? How do we match up against the Jets in the playoffs when Dubois is healthy or how do we stack up against the Flames or Habs, even the Canucks could turn it on. We are a middling club in a mediocre division.

Leafs are riding a hot PP. 38% right now. Defensively they are 20th.

Im not big on Nuge either but i feel he has been masking McDavid's defensive limitations. I often see him playing the C role defensively and McD just covering the point. He is also the very first PKer to come out.

Leave it up to the GM and coach to gauge his value. If he gets 7M+ per i dont think he will last here til its end and will get chased out of town by this fan base and media fairly quickly.

I will give RNH props for being able to play with both McDavid and Draisaitl.

He is proven as a center, and a capable special teams player that plays 20 minutes a night. He's accomplished these merits on a relatively unsuccessful team and needs someone else doing the heavy work. At 7 million it is still a pass for me as well.

We don't even know the length of the contract he and his representation are looking for. If he reaches UFA it will be a miscalculation from the agent and not the Oilers because he will potentially lose millions.

Wells is on their taxi squad which is not the teams active roster. If they claimed Comrie they would need to keep him on their active roster. Which they could do right now with Bear on IR. But once Bear came off IR they would be in the same position they were in before. 12 forwards, 9D and unwilling to risk any of them to waivers.

I don't know if that's true. We started extremely slow, we have a young and developing defence, and we have below average goaltending overall. There's not a lot out there in free agency this summer that is going to upgrade on RNH. He's off to a slow start not playing his best hockey but his past 2 seasons should give a better idea of the player he is which is a 28 goal 70 point winger when playing 1st PP and with one of our star centres. Unless he's not willing to take a 6-6.5M deal you aren't gonna find a better option in UFA.

The obvious is we need to get a goalie this summer, and we should be willing to give up our 1st rounder in the draft + a non Holloway/Broberg prospect or a young D like Jones/Lagesson who they can't protect in the expansion draft. If they can do that then I think it could make sense to speed up the process and look for a trade for a D that includes Broberg in the deal, but I think Holloway should be off the table because he could be pushing for an NHL job as early as next year (unless a top 10 D is coming the other way with Holloway as part of the package). That's not to say I want to trade Broberg, but I could live with it if a deal made sense.

If they can secure a good solid goalie I don't think the teams as far off as you might think. The continued growth of a young D core including Nurse, Bear, Bouchard, Broberg, Lagesson, Jones, and Samorukov still to come, with some growing young forwards in Yamamoto, Puljujarvi, and several other promising names on the way. The depth is going to be there soon if they can plug a couple holes, mainly in net.

Problem solved ... trade Nuge, sign Ovi to play McDavids wing, and try to keep Barrie at a reasonable hit.

Ovechkin McDavid Puljujarvi

It looks like a mighty fine top line. ;)

They can’t really carry three goalies unless they waive one of Koekkoek or Jones.

What do the advanced stats say about Koekkoek? IMO lately he hasn't been very good after a good start to the season. I think that it's fairly obvious that Tippett is not a fan of Jones or at the bare minimum that he expects more of him and won't play him until he sees more from him consistently in practice.

How does Forsberg look this season. Wasn't too long ago he was my favorite winger in the league. Still only 26. Contract runs out after next season. Wonder what they would want.
Forsberg would cost an arm n a leg.
Valuewise: Forsberg > Tolvanen> Arvidsson > Jarnkrok

Forsberg would cost Broberg++ where Jarnkrok could be had for Kahun.

Winnipeg is going to get the reputation, if they don't already have it, as being a scummy franchise.
