Does Hyman play RW at all? I just feel for Holloway. He could be a top 6 LWer but not with Draisaitl, Nuge, and Hyman. Holloway's upside is greater than Yamamoto's IMO. That's a good problem to have, but my concern is that Holloway feels a ceiling on the third line and doesn't get the chance to develop his offensive potential.
Don't worry about Holloway. Hyman will be in the bottom six by year three of this deal.

You tell me how Kunitz did it with Crosby for so many years. It takes players who have certain abilities to change the way you play. The play before was give it to Connor or Leon and they do the rest. But if they got a skilled Top 6 guy who can do some of the heavy load like Hyman, the play can be get it to Hyman when he's parked in front of the net. Those things change a teams behaviors easily.
Kunitz had more skill. But I agree there is value to someone who compliments a generational talent. Pittsburgh didn’t just find Kunitz though, Crosby has more wingers than just him work out. And they work out until it doesn’t or becomes too expensive and they move on to the next option. Here the Oilers are putting all their eggs into one McWinger basket and paying a high and risky amount for the privilege.

You said you aren’t a fan of the player or the contract so I guess I assumed you weren’t lumping them in together. It is possible for a good player to have a bad contract. Take Goodrow for example. Very good player on his role, awful contract. He’s not an awful player because he has a full contract.
Sorry I thought you were referring to what you said last night when you were talking about him being a limited grinder and mentioned 3rd liner and $1.5M player, not a thread from days ago that I never read.

I read the other thread later.
It’s possible. But we are talking in a world where the contract is likely known, so there’s no point to talk hypotheticals.

Fully agreed with the win now sentiment. This gets us closer.

I think the salary number is higher than 10M. Klef LTIR, Neal buyout and eating half of Koski gives us over 10M on their own.

I dunno... I've got it up on Cap Friendly right now. I bought out both Koskinen and Neal. Klefbom is on my LTIR. Not sure what I'm doing wrong (I was surprised too) but it's only showing me ~ $10M remaining.

I don't understand how we let Larsson go for nothing. He should have been signed last offseason.

It happens. Ultimately they were negotiating for awhile got close to a deal during the playoffs and then he pulled back.

It sucks but if he really didn’t want to stay in Edmonton at least we found out now rather than finding out he requested a trade one year into a new deal.

If it was NHL 21 yeah. Often guys who just had a bad or rough season.. don't like to sign contracts if they have term left.

And we didn't let him go for nothing. We had to lose someone to expansion, he wanted out and decided to be out expansion pick

Reminds me of a teacher I had in NAIT.

Go through practice mid-term we can all get it done in two hours. Come exam time most people finished a third of the exam as you had to calculate every number needed for a formula to get the answer.

Other classes their teacher's added 30% to everyone's marks. Our teacher "I'm disappointed you guys couldn't figure this out"

Our teacher was never allowed to make the exams again lol.

Living in Calgary at the time, all I heard was Hamilton's issues were with the organization who also cheaply innuendoed him out of town. Did not hear anything about him not liking the city or playing in Canada. And again, no indication this person would shrink from playing again in a Canadian market just innuendo and usually tied to the goofiness 'guy likes museum' slag that's somehow perceived as a negative by hockey people.

Hamilton has been my long shot big signing to upgrade the defence. Low likelihood for sure. But a lot of assumptions about this person have been made based upon some shitty shade thrown on him by Calgary.
Hockey culture has turned to shit. Hyper conformist conservative tight asses.....the Oilers of the 80s were the exact opposite and they were successful. How this is forgotten is beyond me. Guess many people prefer robot's over mavericks. I like Hamilton. He's not a p***y and can be himself.

Even with the contract being known, I don’t see how his contract makes him a worse hockey player. I’m talking about a players skills being judged separate from his contract. Lots of good athletes have bad contracts, it doesn’t make them worse athletes like you seem to be claiming. Anyways I’ll leave it at that.

Let's hope those in charge can figure it out because I seemingly cannot lol
