Hyman is awesome and you guys will absolutely love watching him play. Contract has a ton of risk at that term - but hopefully you win a cup with him and hes a big part of it. Sometimes you sign bad players to bad contracts. In this case, you're signing a really good player to a bad contract so hopefully the first 4 years are awesome.

I really hope you're right. Personally I'm skeptical and this doesn't really reassure me given his knee injury history but always happy to hear other teams' fans praise a player on the way out instead of smearing them.
Ditto his comments from me. He’s always going. When nobody else on the team is working on a Tuesday night game in Florida, Hyman is. You guys will be glad to have him. He excels down low. I always got the impression that was Drai’s strong suit and less so McDavid’s, so I could see that working out as a potential line mate as well. But he makes whatever line he’s on better. Wish him well.

Aren't we desperate?
Everyone constantly saying we have to win now, no more waiting.

Not saying it makes the deals smart, but we are running out of time

What exactly are the Oilers "winning now"?

Do the Oilers even beat Winnipeg with Hyman? How many goals did he score in the Montreal series for Toronto?

Well, the reality of the situation is they know what needs to be done, which is proper drafting and developing internally so you don't get into these situations of overpaying for free agents. But they know now that it CAN'T be done, simply because you cannot go back in time.

So now, they overpay for assets over the next 3-4 years in hopes they can win a cup with Connor and Leon, and then clean up the mess afterwards and hopefully get the drafting and developing part right by then.

So basically Holland has already accepted that McDavid and Draisaitl are leaving? that's always nice to know

It's not like the Oilers magically even beat Winnipeg if they had Hyman.

How much did Hyman help in the Leafs series against the Habs?
Then why do you love Tatar so much? He's never helped in the playoffs

And no not on his own but he would of helped

Can you name the teams that have won anything in this league with that philosophy?

Kind of my thinking. We will have bigger problems in 5 years then the Hyman contract if we don't win. Hyman at least offers a strong solution short term that can help us win.
The low games played is definitely the only thing I got thinking he could stay good longer.

I don't, I've said I don't like the player, but if the option is having one of them on a 1 year deal and the other on a freaking 8 year contract, I take the 1 year deal if neither is putting you over the top.

The Oilers probably are well aware that if they do not make significant progress over the next 3-4 years, which would likely mean a conference final appearance at absolute minimum, they'll be gone. Mcdavid will be 29 by then, his prime years all but gone.

I mean, it's just the reality of the situation. A situation that the egregiously stupid management in this organization put themselves in. Mortgage the future right now in an attempt to win, and MAYBE keep both of them beyond the 4 year period. Or, sit on your hands and definitely lose them after the 4 year period.

Lucic scored 50 points his first season here...

The fall off comes hard and fast...

Yes, you are correct, the fall comes fast for sure. I think Hyman helps in seasons 1/2 for sure. Starting in 3/4 it likely comes down to health and how he's being used. I would have some questions about his ability in season 4 though already likely. Season 5-8 are going to be a disaster, no doubt about that at all.

The one thing that is very likely to occur is the cap rising quite a bit by season 5-8. If he signs for 8 years, 5.1 M will look a lot less painful in those years (same for RNH as well).

That's because they need MORE than just Hyman. THat is how shit garbage our forward depth is lol

We also need Yammo not play like garbage again. We need Nuge to step it up at evens

Hyman kills Nuge at Evens, which is what we need on this roster

Yup, this is the reality. It's not a reality that I'm happy exists, but that doesn't make it any less true.

Read that the Leafs have given Hyman an 8 year contract offer as well, hoping he resigns with them. Don’t want anything to do with Hyman at 7 or 8 years.

They're not willing to mortage futures. When have they EVER traded a 1st round pick to help the team? 2006 was the last time.

They're not willing to do that. They're willing to sit on that shit forever but make stupid overpayments in free agency and/or lose trades.

That's their philosophy, the "it's the price You havE to PAy!" philosophy.

Tatar has done nothing in the playoffs, hyman has done nothing in the playoffs.

Tatar has been much more impactful offensively in the reg season.

They are only a year apart or so in age.

Tatar is not going to cost a monster ultra risky contract and perhaps other assets.

It's done, Hyman wouldn't fly his family out like that if they were just in a negotiation phase.

It's the same thing when they flew Lucic and his family in to town and he signed a couple of days later.
