I said Nelson would be retained. You could get them both at $9.15. If Kane is out till the playoffs, I think the Oilers could make the money work.
If Kane comes back now before the playoffs, I don't even know what to say. They have to take the Vegas/Tampa/etc approach here and load up with that free money.

I know if Holland was here, he would probably get Kane back in the line up 1 week before the playoffs and not do much lol

Good luck getting a Russian to waive his NMC to get traded away from New York.
Ya I know it's not realistic... but that's the type of player where you make that 1 addition using all your assets available and suddenly the team is set for years as favourites to win a Cup every year. Oilers have basically wasted several good/great playoff runs without being able to get to the summit.

Having a Sarokin/Saros level goalie in the playoffs combined with McDrai virtually guarantees multiple cups.

The good thing is that Bowman has done it before.

Kind of interesting on the fancies - Varlamov looks pretty appealing tbh.

2.75 AAV is mighty doable, too.

"Kane was our deadline acquisition." - Holland 2025, probably.

Lou doesn't retain. And the cost to retain for a 3rd party would be astronomical considering the term on Pulock's deal. Would be even higher than Campbell would have been which we couldn't afford

Yeah I think every team would kill for that level of goalie. Unfortunately they don't get moved, they get drafted and developed

yeah, thats what I'm trying to say. We could pull off him, but not both
Yeah, it would be shocking. But I don't think getting them both is impossible for money reasons, that is, if Kane is out till the playoffs.

Again, something like that would be super unlikely, but I get a feeling the Oilers are going to make a major splash by the TDL.

Ceci was trash. I thought we already knew this. I mean the Oilers did. They tried replacing him with Gudas but Gudas would rather go to Disneyland instead of Winning.

We should have looked for an upgrade on him last year. We should have got a puck mover last year and someone with the ability to make plays in the o-zone, and take off with Coffeys mentorship while having their weaknesses covered by Knobs system.

Sean Walker was the best of that type available last season. Now who can we get this season to fill that hole that we always should have addressed? Matheson with all his warts fits the bill the best. But with Kane to LTIR that all of a sudden means we might be able to aim higher. So who’s that guy?

Sorry if already answered, but if Kane does go on LTIR until the playoffs, how much cap space can we add then at the deadline?

Varlamov's #'s are miles better than Stu's 2.98GAA and 0.897%

His salary. 5 million. It's huge if we do it and we can actually get somebody

Yet he is top pairing in SJ logging 22+ mins.
It's not that hard to crack Oilers top 4 this year. Just have to beat out Stecher and Kulak for it.
Personally I struggle with x-stats (chances) as a means of making definitive claims on individual players, most specifically when it comes to defensive, goal suppression type players. There was a claim here last season that Borgen was in the category of Larsson yet a deeper dive clearly separated the two players. Edmundson another guy who's reset well in LA with middle pair toi and responsibilities.

Ceci's never going to have positive x-goal metrics because he is deployed, with big ice-time minutes, for goal suppression and defending situations. Ceci's an imperfect player but he's second toi and big minute PK minutes that's improved to 80.8% (11th) from 75.4% (21st) last year. His NHL EDGE EV zone time is on par with the deep rebuild team averages. Looking at Hockey Reference, he plays huge minutes, predominantly EV and PK, with situational zone time that tilts heavily to own zone goal suppression. The point share measure estimates a +4 differential on basis of a positive +4.0 for his heavy, strong goal suppression work.

Ceci is decent value for money but breaks down when overplayed in Edmonton. He and Nurse played significant good minutes together but their deficiencies, notably chasing out of team structure for big mistakes (often in critical moment play) burns into memory. The Nurse Ceci divorce was necessary.

I don't see Ceci returning to Edmonton. They need a top 4 definitive upgrade which Kulak has covered successfully after they moved quickly off running Emberson there and clear they see Stetcher as as a #7/6 guy signing Dermott and starting him ahead of the latter to begin the season.

Don't we get more than that? Don't we also get what's been accrued all season without him in the lineup as well? Sorry i'm not very knowledgeable with how the whole cap system works

They were so close to the ceiling when they put him on LTIR that you get pretty much his full cap hit. With accrued space they already have they could add a couple of significant players with a little care.

He is not a top 4 guy on a good team. He has the same problem Tyson Berrie, Erik Karlsson, Bouchard and a couple other D men have. You are just looking at his pts and not his overall play. Right now Montreal knows there is interest in him and are spoon feeding him minutes.
Uh, what?

So let me get this straight, Erik Karlsson was never a top 4 Dman on a good team and Evan Bouchard is not a top 4 Dman on a good team. Good Lord, this is some kind of take even for you.
