Well, I deep a bit of a deep dive on Matheson over on Montreal's board. Definitely a mixed bag. Started out after the trade and first season being compared to Pietrangelo and peak Petry. Then in season two it was well, he's dangerous at both ends of the ice but worth it because of the points he puts up. And this season it has deteriorated to this: View attachment 948204
Well summed up. That’s exactly how the Habs fanbase evolved in their thoughts on Matheson lol.

Well rumours of the oilers being in on brock Nelson would make sense if Kane is going to be LTIR until playoffs. Don’t think that Nelson or Matheson really are difference makers though.

I think matheson would be a disaster in both on ice play and the cost associated to acquire

No team in the league uses their media to better effect in order to gas up their garbage than the Habs.

Immediately after the Carrier/Barron trade I saw pieces come out talking about "creating a market" for David Savard.

Caveat emptor on that guy. I don't like Matheson, but Matheson is Cale Makar compared to Savard.

Meanwhile our media does the exact opposite. 😂

The habs Media is pretty brutal, but it's just brutal in French and the rest of the league is none the wiser. 😂

“Creating a market” articles? That’s crazy. It’s true though, And you can see their fanbase falling right in line with the plan and narrative creation. Kind of a contrast to how we do things around here, where we don’t have marching orders. So the doomer views of a portion of the oilers fanbase is just splayed out there, without any direction or marching orders, to smear our assets.

They out there trying to sell you the corpse of Savard for a 1st. Meanwhile we’re pitching a top 10 pick in Broberg as braindead bambi on skates when it comes time to move on from an asset.

Nelson would be a massive, massive addition. Him alone would push this team over the top. But I would be pleasantly shocked if the Oilers acquired him.

Edit to add: if Kane is out till the playoffs, maybe the Oilers could bring in both Nelson (retained) and Pulock. They'd clear any asset they have, but I don't know if any other roster in the NHL would even be close if they got those guys.

On paper I would agree, however the Oilers inconsistent goaltending will be the deciding factor come playoff time

I won't defend Skinner at all. But I think the addition of Brock Nelson AND Pulock, or their caliber of player, would make this group of skaters the best group in the entire cap era, certainly better than last year's team who was two goals away from the Stanley Cup.

There was a time when Montreal media was trying to construct "Josh Anderson is worth a 1st round pick" and "Joel Edmundson is worth a 2nd round pick" as mainstream ideas. And can you blame them? It worked for Ben Chiarot.

Not that it would be easy, but man lean into the Isles, try to get both Nelson and Dobson.

That comes at a big cost and risk for re-signing them, but that would make a significant difference to the roster.

Short of something insane like shipping them the 26+27+28 first rounders I don't know what we could possibly trade them to make them say yes to that. We don't have any prospects they would care about, and have no Dobson like young player they could add to their roster in return. I doubt the Isles would even do it for the three firsts alone.

I mean I think Akey, Savoie, and O'Reilly have value.

I dunno how all in you want to go though.

Nelson would be a fun add sure but not the number one need. I guess if Kane really is going on LTIR and it's not a wild acquisition cost then okay whatever, it lets us load up the first line:

Hyman-McDavid-Draisaitl
Podkolzin-Nelson-Arvidsson
Skinner-RNH-Kapanen
Janmark-Henrique-Brown
Perry, Ryan

D and G before another forward though, especially a center with limited time in his career on the wing.

They have value to us. In the context of the entire league those are very far from exciting or needle moving prospects.

Savoie has more value than the others, but I don't think he'd excite a team enough to voluntarily deal away a 24 year old top pair d man and 40 goal big C.

I think the best part is they're damned no matter the direction they go in.

Keep both? Drama continues and little "Petey" doesn't appear to be able to play when Miller is there (laughable).

Deal Petterson? He's the younger of the two, has far more upside, and he seems to play better when Miller isn't in the lineup. I don't see a way they win that trade, and with him showing his stripes as a mopey little bitch, teams are likely not paying full value. Especially at $11M+. Miller is also 32 and won't be putting up massive seasons anymore.

Deal Miller? He's their best forward, and drives actual emotion in the group unlike "Petey." It will hurt the team now if they do and they think they're contenders.
