And maybe Sorokin?

Please?

Pretty pretty please?
I would be over the moon for that.

Short of something insane like shipping them the 26+27+28 first rounders I don't know what we could possibly trade them to make them say yes to that. We don't have any prospects they would care about, and have no Dobson like young player they could add to their roster in return. I doubt the Isles would even do it for the three firsts alone.
Sure, I do understand that, but what plays here is how concerned the NYI are at extending Dobson, so that might create an opening.

What's that, Luukkonen to the Oilers, don't mind if I do lol. (not saying that is going to happen)

Trading UPL right now makes a ton of sense for Buffalo, even if their fans roasted me for the idea. Levi is clearly the future in goal and all they need is a warm body this and next year before he'll be ready. Stu is the perfect guy for that, he's the same age as UPL with maybe some untapped potential under a different goalie coach. Worst case he's a decent backup for them.

If Buffalo waits another year, a sub 900 save percentage and GAA above 3 on a long-term contract is going to make UPL absolutely untradeable like Merzlikins and Gibson before him. So why not extract positive value from the situation before it reaches that point? I'm willing to bet he shows out in a new environment like most Sabres players do, and he's cost-controlled when we'll need it most.

Skinner+ futures for UPL, what is the + needed to make that happen?

Borgen is an interesting guy.

There's no denying he's getting beat up this year, but he had some legit numbers against elite comp last year.

View attachment 948192

40% of his ice time was against elites and he and Oleksiak were the only guys to actually come out ahead in possession other than Forsling.

He's also got a fairly elite physical profile. 6'3'' 200lbs and a ~90% skater in speed and bursts.

Hard to say whether last year or this year is the fluke. If he lands somewhere in the middle, I'd say he's one of the better options as a cheap(both to acquire and in salary) rightie that provides most of his value at 5v5.

Borgen's a similar skater to this outstanding specimen:

Edge really needs to find a way to qualify/quantify acceleration or at least first step. Top speed is mostly useless if you're always the slowest off the line.

I agree completely, especially with Stu still having another yr.

I thought it would cost more than that to acquire Kakko and you'd have to imagine NYR will extend Borgen, otherwise that trade is downright horrible for them.
Why did you think it would cost more to acquire him. He has 4 goals in his 6th season and has a career high of 40 points, 2nd best season was 23 points. He's Puljujarvi essentially, returns seems about right.

Levi is looking more like a pretender at this point. UPL is 25 and somewhat established in the same way the Skinner is. Goaltending just isn't their problem.

Moser out 8-10 weeks for Tampa

Guess they'll be after a dman now too

I'd empty the cupboards for Sorokin.

Oilers probably already have 2 cups with a goalie like that in net the last few seasons... and they'd be odds on favourites for a 3rd this season.

An elite goalie makes this team a dynasty team rather than just another contender each year.

Good luck getting a Russian to waive his NMC to get traded away from New York.

On paper I would agree, however the Oilers inconsistent goaltending will be the deciding factor come playoff time
For me, it all boils down to this. I have not seen Pickard play a lot of games in a short amount of time. We don't know if he can keep up his stellar play. Stu can get hot (although the team has to play better than great D) or he can flounder.

I don't care if we somehow add Roman Josi and a power forward to this team. I still do not feel confident going all the way

What a shame that he is being wasted there. It's out of jealousy, but I can't stand seeing that lol. A very good goalie just wasting away.

I won't defend Skinner at all. But I think the addition of Brock Nelson AND Pulock, or their caliber of player, would make this group of skaters the best group in the entire cap era, certainly better than last year's team who was two goals away from the Stanley Cup.

That's $12+m AAV. We'd be lucky to be able to find a way to fit one of those 2 in, let alone both.

He is nowhere close to a top 4. He is barely replacement level player.
Yet he is top pairing in SJ logging 22+ mins.
It's not that hard to crack Oilers top 4 this year. Just have to beat out Stecher and Kulak for it.

UPL is established in a way that Skinner largely is not.

UPL is statistically an absolute monster by every statistical metric compared to his contemporaries.

By the same metrics - Skinner is worse than Pickard in all of them.

I think he was talking about AHL, the Condors defense could use a bit of help tbh

He's as much as a top-4 defenseman as Ty Rattie was a 1st line winger that year he played next to McDavid

Playing top 4 on one of the worst defensive team is a far leap in playing top 4 here. Stetcher had way better defensive metrics than Ceci playing on a shitty team. This year - whoever is on the second pair are have underlying metrics matching past cup winners. Ceci rocked a xGAR of 2% last year. Like I said- he is barely replacement level.
