There must be some names we haven't thought about.

I’ve been a big fan of Sissons game for a long time and was hoping we would inquire about him last year. He’s having an absolutely miserable season but I think with the needed retention he’d still have a decent acquisition cost.

The issue I see now is that we’ve got a pretty deep lineup and there’s only so many minutes to go around. Underplaying guys can be just as detrimental as overplaying them and I don’t know if we would be maximizing a guy like Sissons effectiveness by playing him the 6-8 minutes a night the 4C in Edmonton is going to be getting. Only way I can see it being worth it is if someone like Arvidsson or Henrique is going out.
I think he'd be a big PK guy and the top RH faceoff guy. He'd lineup as 4C, but probably still finishes the night in the 14-16 minute range. If Derek Ryan is coming out, you need a big faceoff/PK guy knowing how important those have been.

I think the guys who see their minutes diminish in the the playoffs are your Skinners, Podkolzins and Perrys. Guys that aren't primary scorers and minimal special teams.

Aside from the upgrade on Stecher/Emberson, I think that's probably the biggest upgrade that we can realistically make on the current roster. And if the retention is possible, it's a no brainer IMO.

Kane brings one of the most important elements: chaos. Knoblauch's style is all about sticking to the plan. Kane is a disruptor. When the system fails he's the best player on the ice. I bet we would have the cup if Kane were healthy
This is actually an excellent point I haven't thought of before. Evander Kane is sort of like a ballistic missile that can be fired in case of an emergency. He can throw entire opposing lines off their game when he's at his best and that's not a luxury many teams have.

When he's at his best it's like thar Calgary series we had. We got shelled badly in game 1 and Kane was the only noticeable Oiler. He was just getting in their heads and mucking it up

Chaos hasn’t won him a cup yet. Knob has shown frustration with Kane before. I like Kane but you need players who fit into the system

Lots of great players never won a cup, and Kane isn't even a core player. Knob hasn't hesitated to play Kane. He even played him when he really shouldn't have, when he was still injured and had to stand at the bench. It's not like he's totally uncoachable. He knows when to mix things up and when to hold back.

No our idiot GM is content with this sorry mental mess in net. We're wasting the final two years of our window because the org doesn't want to offend mustache man.
It’s the organization. They love Skinner. Probably being pushed hard by Schwartz

I was the biggest McLeod supporter on the board, but he isn't better than Henrique defensively, the fundamentals of Henrique's defensive game and defensive awareness is markedly better, what McLeod did better was drive possession (mainly through leveraging his skating advantage offensively and defensively) which is what is actually being shown in his analytics.

What I have been arguing for this year is we need to target an upgrade to pair with Henrique who helps him with zone entries and helps stimulate offense and zone possession for his line. Henrique still has offensive chops, but he needs a straw that stirs the drink.
I'm saying that it doesn't matter how good your defensive awareness or positioning is if you can't get the puck out of the zone. Defense isn't about knowing what guy to stand next to, it's about preventing scoring chances. Yeah McLeod sometimes gets caught puck watching or blows the zone early trying to cherry pick, but he's the far more disruptive forward against opposing dmen and forces opposing teams to play less aggressively due to the threat of him stealing the puck and generating an odd-man rush the other way. And it results in less scoring chances against. Henrique is quite frankly, not very good at preventing scoring chances because of how many extended possessions the opponents get due to his lack of speed and inability to use his wingers. I mean come on, if you watched today you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. The team was a possession black hole every time Henrique stepped on the ice and might as well have been on the penalty kill. He was not an NHL caliber player tonight.

Who can we get? and how can we afford him?

Imagine Vegas had this attitude two years ago and decided to just do nothing and stand pat with Broissoit. We are in the 2023 Cup Finals then.

It's not that hard to find a goalie higher than like 60th in the league for GSAA, there's literally 60 options there, get one.

No one says you have to f***ing marry the goalie you acquire, at least have some options. Vegas had an option in our series. It changed the series entirely and got them .930 goaltending all the way to a Cup.

No one has mentioned it yet but I believe Bob name dropped “The Guy” on The 880 Ched Pregame show yesterday. It’s Mike Matheson. He also name dropped Marcus Pettersson later on as well as a guy who can stop the cycle and has a bit of size And is friends with Ekholm and Arvidsson.

Games like the FLA one shine a light on the fact that Ekholm-Bouchard haven’t been as rock solid in the defensive zone as they were last season. They’re often getting reeled in by speedy forechecks this year and forcing bad passes.

Imo the team really needs one more Kulak-type (or better) to round out the D. Not to play with Nurse, but to break up Ekholm-Bouchard, and let them both get a partner with more speed.

Ekholm-Emberson have looked good together on the PK and could/should be able to work at evens, and Nurse-Kulak have been dominant together, so don’t break them up; That leaves you needing a smooth skating defenceman to go with Bouchard.

Before the snide (but correct) remarks of Broberg, who would be an ideal partner for Bouch? While I’m not a big fan of NHL Edge, as it doesn’t measure acceleration, in this case I do want what it judges as an elite skater: Someone that skates miles and does it fast. I also want someone with decent puck skills and vision, but plays a safe game. (Basically prime Sekera)

Of the UFAs to be, Provorov makes a ton of sense…

Nurse-Kulak
Provorov-Bouchard
Ekholm-Emberson

… but that would be a one and done and super expensive. Going for a cheaper option, I still really like the fit of Valimaki, who had a couple good seasons with the Yotes before losing his role to Sergachev this year. The fact that he’s only due 2mil next year also helps with the cap and fitting in Drai and Bouchard’s upcoming raises.

Nurse-Kulak
Ekholm-Emberson
Valimaki-Bouchard

Of course, you can still run Ekholm-Bouchard and have Valimaki-Emberson as a 3rd pairing. This gives you a release valve vs. heavy forechecks.
