Please explain to me how to magically put Skinner on LTIR?

And please, what backup goalie is gonna walk in here and win a cup?

Unless there's an injury, it's not the same thing. Wrap your head around that before making a terrible comparison
He's sore, trust me. That about cover it as I understand the rule "Ouch I hurt and it will last longer than 10 days" LTIR for you.

The faith that some people have in Oilers scouting is remarkable.

The same scouting that decided that Jack Campbell was going to carry this team to a Cup.
It's yet ANOTHER reason to fire Schwartz, he scouts the tenders.

They don’t have to, this is yet another pretend requirement you are trying to talk yourself into existing solely because you are inexplicably happy with Skinner. Why is LTIR necessary for Stan to acquire another goalie?

Any goalie who has better numbers than Skinner is a better bet, especially those on worse teams. That happens to be… a lot. Why are you against the Oilers trying to get better? You have yet to explain that.

Reading comprehension, try it.

I'm not advocating for Skinner AT ALL. I merely corrected the OP on his version of events

The LVG fans were furious with the GM over the goalie situation that year.

This is how I currently see the forwards post deadline:

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Kane - Draisaitl - Arvidsson
Skinner - Henrique - Kapanen
Janmark - New 4C - Brown/Perry/Podkolzin

Assuming everyone is healthy, I think it basically becomes a contest between Kapanen and Brown and Skinner and Podkolzin to see who earns the roster spot in the playoffs. Even at that, this assumes Perry is out, and right now I want him in the lineup. Ryan also totally unaccounted for.

You can only assume that a few of these players will be dispatched in trades at some point. If anything I'd rather carry 8 D and 12 forwards post deadline than 14F/7D creating more of a crunch.
No chance Podkolzin comes out of the lineup.
In fact, even though the goals haven't come yet, there's no reason to take him off the Draisaitl line at all until he earns a demotion.

Franchises go their entire existence without getting a player the caliber of Draisaitl. We have 2. Long-term, in their primes. Rest of roster is uneven but clearly championship level. This is the window. It is closing.

You'd think front office would like to have one of the top 15 goalies in the world and would move heaven and earth to get them here. But alas.

We will not win shit with this trash goalie. He throws every third or fourth game away.

I'm not making excuses for the Oilers goalie scouting, but goalies really are the hardest positional group to figure out. But eventually, after almost endless swings/misses on tenders, you'd think the team wouldn't be QUITE so cocksure about their own tender evaluation abilities. It would be one thing if the org had a rich history of identifying young goalies and bringing them along, but that is the complete opposite of what has historically happened. So them sticking with a starting tender who clearly doesn't have what is required is even more baffling given the historical context.

But at the same time it goes hand in hand. They still stick with this bozo Schwartz for reasons I don't understand.

The Oilers' problems with goaltending go back quite a ways. There's a reason why Fuhr was the last goalie this team successfully developed.

Exactly. Meanwhile we have a tiny Stu contingent virtually stroking his shlong every game, no matter how he plays.

It's a mystery why these people do not want a cup in the end.

Because some of us recognize that the Oilers are a goalie graveyard and there's a reason they've developed jack shit in that area for the past 40 years.

We don't even need a top-15. We only need a top-25/30, because the rest of the team is very good. We don't have a goalie that good though, we have a guy who was 35th of 70 eligible (15 GP min) tenders in goals saved above expected/60 in 2023-24, and is currently 44th of 56 eligible tenders (10 GP min) this year. He was 10th of 15 eligible (min 4 GP) in the same stat for last years playoffs as well, so bottom third again. Skinner was 20th of 22 eligible (again min 4 GP) in the 2022-23 playoffs. What is interesting in both years was how much better the backup did in comparison to Skinner. In 22-23, Campbell was actually #1 in the league for that years playoffs, and last year Pickard was 7th of 19 if you lower the eligibility GP number to 3 so Pickard qualifies. So the backup was significantly better than Skinner in the past 2 playoff years.

The numbers/ranking will vary a little based on the minimum GP you choose, but the story is the same. Skinner is at best a 40th to 45th percentile goalie, and in most circumstances is a 20th to 25th percentile goalie. At his best he is almost average, but not quite. At his worst he is literally the worst goalie, or in the top-5 for worst. His average play is around that 20th to 25th percentile though. The rest of the team is great, but it should be hard to get a league average goalie to make the team that much better.

So then lets just pack it up. Just forfeit the season. Why even try to compete.

Just give it a few games and see how it does. I can see people saying this when McDrai are 38

He is who he is

Vegas up 5-0 he makes it look close

Blow Van out he makes it look close. He is not steady at all.

I don't trust the scouts that thought Jack Campbell was the answer to deliver us a true starting goalie, nor do I trust any incoming goalie to not be butchered by Dustin Schwartz.
You need to get over Campbell. It was a swing and a massive miss that doesn’t mean we should just never try and upgrade our goaltending again.

It wasn't just a swing and a miss, though. The Oilers pushed their chips to the center with this goalie and he was so bad they had to exile him and promote Skinner to a spot he wasn't ready for.

And it's not just Campbell. We've been through how many goalies since Roloson? This team can't draft goalies nor can they find them via trade or signing. There's a systematic issue with the Oilers and goaltending, and really there has been for decades.

Unfortunately, we need Skinner to fall down hard and blow us a bunch of games in the next while here. It's for the greater good. Boston, blow us out good. Then lose a few to the bad teams. Take 1 step back for a few steps forward.

This org will never try to make any improvements until it falls on it's face so hard they are forced to do it.

All the coaches have to tell him is "just play like you did against Vancouver fella"

The only facts and context that matter are this: Skinner is shit, there are many non-shit options out there, let's try one and see if it's better than our current shit. That's all I'm asking for.

Cheering for the team to lose is definitely a look.

Asking for a desperation trade is also begging for the team to get bent over a barrel.

Anthony Stolarz is going to miss 4-6 weeks here coming up.

Skinner is below average, but what happens if he is out? They don't play Pickard enough to even find out

Love Kakko quote lol

Kaapo Kakko: “Haven’t been on the ice too much when [opponents] score a goal… I have not been the worst guy, but that was me out of the lineup.”

He has a 1.54 goals against per 60 at 5-on-5, 2nd to Filip Chytil among all Rangers with at least 20 games played.

The Sabres are the Sabres, and the have Devon Levi on the way, maybe try to trade Skinner ++ for UP Luukkonen, he's big, young and under contract, he's also put up solid numbers on a bad Sabres team.

Skinner is extended long enough to allow them to bring Levi along.

Skinner needs a 1B goalie. He's good in short bursts but seems to get burnt out when he plays to much.
How is he playing too much? Pickard could have started the game.. many will say should have started this game. Skinner is barely beating him out as #1 goalie. Time to give Pickard a longer run with Skinner watching

He actually is not beating out Pickard lol. He just gets the starts given to him. Not always earned.

Pickard is 2.41 / 0.901%

6/8 games with a 900+

Skinner is 2.98GAA / 0.892

12/21 games with a 900+

Basically, you are getting average goaltending or slightly less in 50% of his games.

That # should be 70% at least
