lol Reddit.

The nice thing about reddit is they don't have any patience for the whole doomer schtick that a lot of people on HFOil have. You don't get a few posters hijacking entire threads with terrible takes like we get here as they just get downvoted out of the discussion.

I'm not even sold that the defence was that bad. High danger chances were 12-6 Edmonton. 6 high danger chances against is tied for the 5th fewest Edmonton has allowed all year.

Tkachuk kicked one in that somehow counted. Reinhart scored on a shot that wasn't even a scoring chance. Florida also got a fluke pinball goal off of Emberson's back.

Bad luck and not being able to get a save when we needed one are the bigger culprits (while agreeing that none of the D had particularly outstanding games)

The Oilers definitely needed a big save or two that they didn't get yesterday but the team defence was lacking. The first goal against doesn't need to be explained at all. Florida's third goal came after multiple failed clears out of the defensive zone. Florida's fourth goal we had multiple players standing by the bench while Bouchard turned it over in the defensive zone leading to an odd man rush against. The sixth goal was after another turnover by our defence when Ekholm threw it up the boards to no one. Then somehow no one was within five feet of the player in the slot that scored the goal.

Hey this guy on Reddits got a good point:

“Vs LA

Skinner 5 GP 0.910 SV%, 2.59 GAA

Rittich 2 GP 0.872 SV%, 2.56 GAA

Talbot 3 GP 0.861 SV%, 5.30 GAA

Vs VAN

Yes he was bad. But played well in game 6/7

Vs DAL

Skinner 6 GP 0.922 SV%, 1.91 GAA

Oettinger 6 GP 0.901 SV%, 2.56 GAA

Vs FLA

Skinner 7 GP 0.909 SV%, 2.33 GAA

Bobrovsky 7 GP 0.899 SV%, 2.67 GAA

Stolarz 1 GP 0.842 SV%, 5.17 GAA

Other than round 2. Skinner played better than the Other goalies every series. Give it a f***ing rest.”

Reddit is a hivemind in which any dissenting opinion gets downvoted into oblivion. And the average redditor’s hockey knowledge is maybe a step up from the average Facebook Oilers fan commenter

They pick their favourite players and damn the rest

Bouchard was really left in no man's land on that goal. Zero outlet options with two forecheckers and his D partner under pressure as well. One of the worst line changes I've ever seen because Skinner kept bitching about the non-call.

Damn he’s got a lot of Replies to get to. I await the results.

Why are we trading JSkinner when his game is rounding into form and providing offence and play driving from the 3rd line. Something that we’ve always lacked on this team.
Because Kakko is probably a better all around player and the cap hit is lower.

Bouchard had the option of reversing the puck behind the net to Kulak who had no one within 15 feet of him. Instead he went up the boards and turned it over. It really was a failure all around. Our team defence will have to be better than that in the future.

He should have fired the puck into the Panthers' bench.

Is he? I’ll have to take your word on it, I’m not verse on their Kakko-verse.

But I don’t know. Im liking what JSkinner can bring to this team. On a team that sometimes needs that one extra goal outside of McDrai, JSkinner on the 3rd line brings that rare Top 6 play driving ability.

Our team has a lot of good “all around”players as it is. Like Janny, like Podz, like Brown.

Somebody there copied and pasted what I wrote. I don't post there with the Skinner schlong suckers

Go look at all of my posts here and go see if you can find more lol.

You won't. I never eve visit that forum. I do use Reddit though. I am more into business and real estate over there.

Reddit has more Kool-Aid drinkers I think.

So which one of you here copied my post and added some to the end? lol

I am going to go read the comments

Ok I read half of the comments and my brain is rotting

What a delusional bunch of posters there. Jeezus Christ.

OnMy4thAccount is about the only sane person in that thread. Has some brains.

Against the kings, we beat the breaks off then analytically. Pick any metric you want - we best the breaks off of them, he should have beat the breaks off of Talbot.

The Vancouver series he was flat out bad.

He was better than Oettinger, but only barely; Skinner had 2.5 GSAx in that series, and Oettinger had around 2 GSAx in that series. All things said - Skinner at his best made one more big save throughout the entire series.

Statistically Skinner beat Bobrovsky - but ultimately it's a shallow victory - Bobrovsky was good when games were tight and it won him games, and was bad when it didn't matter. Skinner was good after we already scored 8, 5, and 5 goals. But when it was tight in game 7 his 905 was worse than Bob's 953. When it was tight in Game 3, his 862 was worse than Bob's 947. Bob won his team two tight games they needed the goaltender to be the difference maker - Skinner won his team none. Both times when it became a goaltending duel, he lost.

THIS

Bob stepped it up. Must be nice when a goalie absolutely steals game 1 to set the tone. When push came to shove, he made the saves he had to, like last night

Do people trust Skinjob in a 1-1 game?

lol

Those idiots 97/injured 29. SHould have got another 7 goals.

People should trust the team to score more than one goal. Of course Bob lets in a laugher in game 2 that should never go in, but the team didn't capitalize on it and played a terrible game.

Gotta love the downplaying of Skinner beating the top team in the conference and one of the Cup favourites.

Here is one of the DUMBEST posts that I read over there

"He was a critical part of the Oilers getting to game 7 of the finals last season." You have had to fallen on your head to even type that

That's about as dumb as saying John Salley was critical in the Bulls winning the championship.

Did we beat the breaks off the Nucks analytically or no?

Better than Otter. Talbot. And Bob. I would agree.

That was because McDavid peeled off and went to the same player Bouchard had.

It's been a theme this year, to say the least. He's had major difficulty tracking and checking his man in the slot. As much as Driaisailt's defensive game has improved this year, McDavid's has fallen off to an almost equal degree. It's like they swapped brains - the sloppy D zone play and puck play from Leon is mostly gone, while both things have infected McDavid's game for whatever reason.

Why exactly, would Montreal give us Matheson? He is a very valuable piece for them. He is also on a not terrible contract ($4.8 for this/next year) and is young enough to be part of the solution there at 30 years old. Yes, he would be very welcome on our team, but I don't see why Montreal would trade him at all.
He turns 31 in two months, and Montreal is a couple years from contending. They are better off getting pieces for him that fit the age of there core. They have Lane Hutson which will be taking all his PP time in the near future and only diminishing

They wouldn't so you don't ask. You look elsewhere.

It's a good point... this is why you can't look at SPCT in a small sample size. It's way more important to look at the actual events, since the context is far more important than the numbers.

To that end, I didn't get a chance to watch the game last night (I was on ice myself)... but on a game like last night it would be useful to scrutinize the other goalie, you know, the guy with multiple Vezinas... and see if he did any better. Even rank the goals based on "no chance/bad luck" to "completely savable/major goalie error".

From my quick look at the highlights, it looked like Skinner wasn't any worse than Bob. If anything there was some bad luck/bounces involved whereas the goals Bob let in were more straightforward (and therefore some perhaps savable).

I feel like sometimes we have an issue with assigning agency here. Whenever scored against, it's something our goalie did or didnt' do... when we score, it's always a great play by our forwards.

Take Brown's goal for example... or (I think it was) our late tying goal. Both quite savable and just went through *the best goalie in the world*
