The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced either Skinner or Arvy needs to be traded.

Kane-McDavid-Hyman
Podkolzin-Draisaitl-Kapanen
Skinner-RNH-Arvidsson
Janmark-Henrique-Brown

This to me is probably a misutilization of both RNH and Henrique - as much as the idea of the Janmark-Henrique-Brown from last year's playoffs becoming the 4th line seems like a dream.

It's a good point... this is why you can't look at SPCT in a small sample size. It's way more important to look at the actual events, since the context is far more important than the numbers.

To that end, I didn't get a chance to watch the game last night (I was on ice myself)... but on a game like last night it would be useful to scrutinize the other goalie, you know, the guy with multiple Vezinas... and see if he did any better. Even rank the goals based on "no chance/bad luck" to "completely savable/major goalie error".

From my quick look at the highlights, it looked like Skinner wasn't any worse than Bob. If anything there was some bad luck/bounces involved whereas the goals Bob let in were more straightforward (and therefore some perhaps savable).

I feel like sometimes we have an issue with assigning agency here. Whenever scored against, it's something our goalie did or didnt' do... when we score, it's always a great play by our forwards.

Take Brown's goal for example... or (I think it was) our late tying goal. Both quite savable and just went through *the best goalie in the world*
it gives an overview look of what happened in the playoffs using the plain stats. Game by Game performances do need context. Looking at goals scored and how they happened, I agree.

But I think looking at 4 series context of Stu outdueling 3 of 4 goalies says we had a chance to win with this goalie. And we got to Game 7 of the Cup Finals with that chance.

Speaking of last night, you are right. I would rate the 2 worst goals out of the 11 scored last night as being on Bob. Brown's onetimer from a bad angle that went through Bob. And Kap's net-side jam that also went through Bob.

That is a very deep forward group, but very soft in the bottom 6.

From Oilers practice:- Connor McDavid & Darnell Nurse collided midway through. No. 97 left & didn't return. Kris Knoblauch: “I have not talked to (head therapist) T.D. (Forss), but I think he’s doing all right. If he wasn’t, I’m sure I would have gotten an update right away.”

But you don't know what it would really take if you don't ask.
We've each been around for long enough, when McJadded says "why would they 'something something' this guy" what he means is he assuming the team won't do anything with that player, so it's easier just to move on from even entertaining the thought.

Did anybody hear Marek lately. I seen on twitter that Holland almost traded drai for kucherov in 2019
Even though Kucherov is one of the top players in the world, I'm glad that trade didn't happen. Kucherov doesn't seem to like the spotlight and Russian stars generally don't like playing in Canada. He'd probably be gone the second he hit UFA or request a trade before that.

Make 2 trades, change the complexion of the team

To NYR: Jeff Skinner, 2025 2nd, 2026 2nd and Lachance

To EDM: Kakko (50% retained)

then

To BUF: Stuart Skinner, Derek Ryan, 2027 1st and 2026 4th

To EDM: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Sam Lafferty(50% retained)

Skinner is trending up, but he always starts off in the depths of hell

October - 0.872%
Novemebr - 0.898%
December - 0.906%

Took him 3 whole months to just get to average/barely above You can't have your goalie tank the start of your year. Just normal with Skinner though. October was the "easy" month too.

Woof

Here are Blackwoods numbers on a shitty SJ team

October- Also below average - 0.894
November - 0.916
December - 0.935

Yup, as people here say, this guy would not have been an upgrade......LMAO
The current NHL average save percentage is 0.900.

It wasn't just a swing and a miss, though. The Oilers pushed their chips to the center with this goalie and he was so bad they had to exile him and promote Skinner to a spot he wasn't ready for.

And it's not just Campbell. We've been through how many goalies since Roloson? This team can't draft goalies nor can they find them via trade or signing. There's a systematic issue with the Oilers and goaltending, and really there has been for decades.
Dubnyk, talbot and brossiot have gone on to have good careers post oilers after being here and we had stolarz in our system. Seems like the problem is definitely with our scouting and pro training. I have no doubt when we give up on skinner he will go on to have a good career as well. There’s something in the water here that causing the fans to turn in goalies extremely quickly and management to get rid of them

I think this team rides with Skinner, they don't have the cap space for an upgrade anyways. A good pro scout would have identified Stolarz's phenomenal numbers in the offseason like when traded for Talbot, but it seems the only thing our scouts are good at are name recognition, which is why we load up on old vets.

That being said, I still think our 2nd biggest need is 3rd line C. Henrique simply can't drive play, and it's messing up the entire bottom 6, especially since Ryan can't drive play either. Janmark, Perry, and Brown have all been fine or even great at times, but the 3C and 4C spots will be a problem in the later rounds of the playoffs if we don't upgrade them.

Dubnyk and Talbot were already way better goalies than skinner when they were in Edmonton… on worse teams.

was he herre for Dubnyk?

Its funny because the goalie issues we have are the same we always have. I dont think the individiual goalies are the problem, especially since they leave and have success elsewhere. Which of course is annoying.
He's been the goalie coach since Frederic Chabot was fired in November 2014.

It's time for Schwartz to not work for the organization.

I dont know but this organization has thought of goaltending as an afterthought for decades now. The fact that Schwartz has been here a decade through 3 managers and 6+ coaches is a testament that the only qualifications you need to be the goalie coach is a pulse is a testament to that.

The Oilers do not care about the position at all.

Any in interest in Kakko? Seems like he is on the way out.
I'd be over the moon if we got Kakko. But this is probably the least likely time to acquire him. We lack the cap space, the assets and the roster spot for him. I was surprised we snagged Kapanen when he was available considering the number of wingers already on the roster.

If they were willing to take Skinner or RV, absolutely. But I can't see it.

I notice (Josh) Brown has already been sent down (isn't on the active roster). So they're literally operating on a bare-bone, 20 man roster going into the Christmas break, as Ragula is still on IR. For better or worse, it seems like this team's only goal until March is to acquire as much cap space as possible.

Ryan will likely be on his way down once Arvidsson is healthy (or will be after Christmas, as I guess the team'll be accommodating and let him spend that at home with family). Safe to say Kap has stolen his spot.

I also suspect injuries over the next 3 months will dictate whether Kane is back in the lineup with 10 games remaining in the season or game 1 of the first round. If a few guys go down and they're forced into LTIR, I suspect they'll play it safe and give Kane all the time he needs to recover. If that just so happens to allow them to still be able to afford a 4mil cap hit at the deadline, well that's just fortunate circumstance.

Franchises go their entire existence without getting a player the caliber of Draisaitl. We have 2. Long-term, in their primes. Rest of roster is uneven but clearly championship level. This is the window. It is closing.

You'd think front office would like to have one of the top 15 goalies in the world and would move heaven and earth to get them here. But alas.

We will not win shit with this trash goalie. He throws every third or fourth game away.

Amen.
