Bouchard and Ekholm have had a few games of late where they've made some costly plays. Switching up the pairings is likely to see how much they'll be exposed if that becomes a trend. If they can't distribute the tough minutes evenly, then the big swing at a top-4 d-man at the deadline remains a priority.

No matter what happens, I'd be legitimately surprised if the team doesn't acquire another top 4 D man before or by deadline. It's just a matter of when IMO.
(I just hope the Dman will be a good target)

Maybe trade for one of the defenders available since the D cores weakness is getting realized now. Maybe just get someone like....

MIKE MATHESON

Bring on the hate!

Nurse has been playing like a top-pair dman so they're trying him there.

Now that Emberson is settling in, they want to see if he's capable of top-4 minutes. That was always going to be the plan.

Seems like a nothing burger to me. The knee-jerk reaction of solving everything with a trade every time anything chances or goes wrong for a moment still isn't the answer.

Your eye test is awful. You were unironically one of the biggest Barrie>Bouchard guys here which is already a telltale sign that you don't know how to watch hockey. And to make matters worse you continued with that take last year while Bouchard was putting up a top 5 Norris finish season and one of the most dominant playoff performances in NHL history.
So Bouchard had a great game last night... got it.. enjoy your 20/20 vision

Analytics generally show process and long term impact. Bouchard tilts the ice in the right direction when he's on the ice. The only thing stopping Bouchard from being considered in the Hughes-Makar level is he tends to make the "big mistake" too often, especially this season and on national TV. That doesn't show up in as much analytics because he genuinely plays well 85-90% of the time.

But that 10% of the time where he's making the big mistake is the reason he's left off Team Canada, you need a level of reliability in a short tournament. That "big mistake" doesn't have major impact in an 82 game season, but in a short tournament it can be the difference between Gold and 3rd/4th place.

I knew he wasn't making Team Canada the moment he imploded the game against the Leafs.

It isn't possible to do that in Toronto on a Saturday on national TV and not have everyone know about it.

I don't hate trying that out, Ekholm looked good with Emberson and with the way Nurse has been playing, maybe some swagger and confidence will rub off on Bouchard.

The pairings are always pretty fluid, but I think it's worth trying.

so you actually think Bouchard had a solid game bs BOS?
Ah yes, the strawman deflection.

If you want to cherry pick, you should probably point at the Florida game.. considering that was probably his worst game of the season.

Most of the team wasn't particularly good last night, but funnily enough - Bouch was one of the few to breakeven from a metrics standpoint.

So, try again.

Blah blah, metrics, blah blah strawman. So are you saying that Bouchard had a good game last night? Yes or No?

Ps, how is it strawman deflection when my post you quoted specified "last game vs BOS being a good example"

Reading comprehension is a challenge, hey?

If you're just going to handwave away everything I've said, I'll do the same with you.

Bye now.

As long as you're not like that goofy Oilers fan in the mains trade thread suggesting they move Bouchard for Carlo lol.
BOS fans have been down on Carlo ... could be had for a 2nd plus cap going back. Would certainly take him before Savard or Matheson from Habs

I don't know anything about Carlo personally so I can't comment. I personally don't want Matheson for sure though.

The only thing that gives me pause is if they really don't have the cap and assets to get that done and a goalie.

Good time to experiment with the d-pairings with some wobbles in top pair and their favourable schedule.

Through necessity, Knoblauch and staff uncovered Nurse Kulak to cover the 2RD gap and versatility that will deliver value for this team. This is really a great opportunity to further test and see what they have with this d-corp. Last night in a tight game, Knoblauch rolled the top 4 guys all over 20 minutes. I'm actually curious to see if they keep Kulak locked at 3LD or if they continue to rotate him into 2RD now with Ekholm in key situational play.

This is a real positive confidence play in Nurse but also in Bouchard to trial and test new pairings.

I seen some quotes from Trotz. Guy is delusional. Wants to reset lol. He should tear that muther down.

He should trade Josi/Saros for the biggest hauls he can get

Random musings:

NJD showing their left side weakness in their bottom 6.
Bruins must be getting very anxious about a top liine center.
Nice to see Jordan Oesterle do well in a top 4 role, just not against us dammit.
Vancouver-- Hughes, Hronek, Myers and a bunch of 6, 7 guys. They need two D at least one top 4.
Jimmyboy Hagens wouldn't normally be considered a Trotz kinda guy.
Matheson is a gamble in his own zone. Don't we have the two Brain Fart Twins already without handling more own zone miscues?
Bouchard is definitely elite offensively but....not a complete D.

They should fire him before he makes any big trades
Your right Toby. A superior coach is not necessarily a GM. Very different skill sets in many ways.
The question here is toss him now or can he learn fast enough on the job and can Nashville handle a mistake for every good move he makes?
Bring in an experienced co GM?
