That’s a(nother) shit trade for the Canucks, IMO.

Reeks of desperation.

Ya they clearly aren’t contending, and they could have used that 1st in the summer to actually make a long term impact.

Obviously a terrible situation for Vancouver however they have improved a bit defensively. Rutherford still has till the deadline to try to find a guy that can at least play quality 2C.

I guess, but the 3 guys leaving had 150 points last year, and the 3 guys coming back had 72…

Boeser likely gone in the off-season. Hughes leaving after 26-27 is in the tea leaves. This might actually be the year VAN has to go for it.

Disagree. They should have tanked this year, and spent big in the summer in the hopes of having a big year and keeping Hughes.

So they go all in only to maybe make the playoffs and then what? They lose Boeser for nothing, and don’t have the Rangers 1st anymore to try and address needs. Now you’re really screwed.

You sell Boeser for another 1st+, sell high on Lankinen, and use all that cap to facilitate some deals and gain extra assets. Go offer Rantanen or Marner 14 million if they get to free agency, and you still have enough cap to go after say Chychrun and Bennett. Then maybe you have a good enough team to have a half decent run and convince Hughes to stay.

Canucks give up a trash Vinny and get Pettersson lol. Meanwhile our guys are asleep
As well as a first round pick which is currently 11th overall. I actually thought Pettersson looked pretty slow against the Oilers - I’m not sold he was a good pickup.

Pulock and Pelech in New York both interest me if they’re healthy and they end up selling.

Kulak does play top 4 and the only reason he isn’t top 4 full time on this team is because he has Ekholm and Nurse above him.
Kulak has never played top 4 level minutes in his career prior to this season where his chief competition has been Stecher and Emberson. Kulak is a 4/5 tweener who has played more like a 4 for all of half a season, pump the brakes he is not on M. Pettersson's level.

M. Pettersson plays a quiet game, but he is the high end of the pure defensive defensemen in the league, quality at defending the rush and roughly a top 20 d-man on the PK.

Yeah, this is what I don't get. You lose a ton of scoring to the point where like... I don't really get how they are an offensively competent team going forward.

Particularly considering how they were already 23rd in GF/60 WITH Miller.

I guess maybe the hope Pettersson breaks out without Miller. But even still, they've just got no scoring depth after that.

He is far from the high end of a defensive defencemen. He gets badly exposed against speedy wingers.

Okay man Kulak is good but Petterson is top 4. We don't need to deny it. With all the trade chips being taken, who is even going to be available? I am not expecting any moves now. There is not much left right now. Isn't this the year we are suppose to go all in Stan Bowman?

I said this last year? Waiting to make a trade is a terrible choice
You’re being ridiculous.

This supports what I said, plus the eye test and seeing him defend Connor better than 95% of the league.

Then as for the reason why he suddenly became "awful" defensively, it's a combination of morale in PIT being low, the team structure they had has been eroding with time, and then roster quality.

His main d-partners being Erik Karlsson who is well known for both juicing GF and GA in a dramatic fashion when he is on the ice and an over the hill Kris Letang.

That, quite frankly, is what we got with Klingberg. Difference is, we didn't pay assets through our noses to get him. But SOME here want to pay assets through our noses because we need to 'prove' to the NHL we are 'busy'.

Also...

Looks like the issues are still gonna be there LOL. This is fun to watch.

Yes!! Thank you for posting. At least some here get it. I don’t understand where this mentality that every transaction must involve the Oilers or else mgt isn’t doing their jobs comes from. It’s completely non-sensical.

Frankly, because they aren’t involved is often a larger indicator that they are doing their jobs. And well.

It’s just the same 3 or 4 posters and I’m pretty sure 2 of them are the same person.

I saw this trade. I need to hit something or someone. I am positive we can depend on Klingberg to trend positively. But... Why aren't we making more activity? Isn't it better to trade BEFORE the stupid 4 nations tournament?
Hit something over a trade of a NHL team that is desperately trying to just make the playoffs?

That’s embarrassing
