Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

There's gonna be a glut of players here if they sign Saad

RNH McDavid Hyman
Saad Draisaitl Arvidsson
Kane (?) Henrique Podkolzin
Perry Janmark Brown
Kapanen Philp Ryan
Skinner (lol)

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Magical Trade Deadline D
Kulak Klingberg
Stetcher Emberson
Regula Brown

The above is stupid and overkill, ship out someone (Kane, Arvidsson) and bring back John Gibson, we need insurance in net more than continual forward/D adds.

I wouldn't be married to Arvidsson, JSkinner, Henrique ... these guys are not living up to the contracts they signed and I wouldn't be opposed to seeing 1 or 2 of the 3 gone. Signing them is not working out as hoped.

Maybe we could pull a mind bender and have TWO TEAMS No one knows how to defend against that.

Not sure where Saad fits in lineup wise, but I won't say no to more depth. Gotta think they move out a guy like Skinner? By all accounts Saad can still skate very well.

Saad - McDavid - Hyman
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Arvidsson
Kapanen - RNH - Henrique
Janmark - Philp - Brown

This is the deepest team in Oilers history

Do Saad and Klingberg move the needle for this team?
Definitely, especially if its for under 2.5m combined. Still have money to play with at deadline. Saad scored 26 last year, Klingberg remains to be seen.

Depends how much game they have left. Maybe they do maybe they don’t. If klingberg is right and his skating is the best it’s been in years maybe he can fill a hole. Saad scored 26 goals last year and is strong down low and on the boards. Not sure what his deal is this year.

I personally like Skinner but he has to go if Knoblauch doesn't want to play him and McDavid/Draisaitl don't want to play with him. I think he waives his NMC to go to another playoff team that actually gives him ice time. My guess is Toronto, Boston or NYR.

Rico has been fine but honestly he's been anchored down playing most of the season with Janmark and Brown. He's also struggling with Knoblauch playing him as a shutdown center which he's never really been. I love the idea of adding Trent Frederic who can produce in a 3rd life role and moving Rico over to LW to win faceoffs.

Arvidsson has also been a huge disappointment for me. His analytics have been fine but he has not looked like the player I've seen in Nasvhille or LA. My hope is that he can step it up in the playoffs. His 16 points in 35 games strapped to Draisaitl is not good enough. He has the same production this year as Skinner who gets 4th line icetime and deployment. I'd love to use just an extra 750k to 1M and replace him with an Alex Tuch or Brock Boeser.

Is Saad a good skater?

His top speed is above league average and his speed bursts are still in the 77th percentile.

Lol Skinner isn't waiving his NMC lolol

Knob is going to do Jeff Skinner worse than the Warden in the Shawshank Redemption did to Andy Dufrense, lol.

The kinda sad part of it is Skinner actually has been making a real effort to comply, +3 in his last 8 games with 2 goals (20 goal pace) and 4 points overall playing basically with nothing but bottom 6 minutes, never a sniff of time with McDavid or Draisaitl.

Depth is never a bad thing. Saad should still be a NHL player and has a lot of experience under his belt. Klingberg if he truly is healthy could be an impact defenseman.
I agree that they could add something - but both are big questionmarks and, based on their most recent sample of NHL play, neither is a good player right now.

Depth doesn't hurt, but they still have to acquire bigger fishes. These additions can't come at the expense of making moves for actual tangible upgrades in positions of need. If Klingberg and Saad represent their major additions in a year that should be all-in, it's a major failure. Banking on cripples and past-prime players to rebound to former glory, refusing to pay the assets for tangible upgrades should not be the strategy for a team that is desperate to win now.

This is the last season that McDrai are both still in their 20s, not to mention their salaries going significantly up after this season. How about just once pay what you need to win now???
