Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

Idk much about Saad as a player aside from being able to produce goals in his career, but I’d welcome him on this team any day given the rumours and smoke is true about him being an Oiler.
I find it admirable he’s willing to walk away from good money just for a chance to play and win for a cup contending team.
There sails the years where this team was Unpopular destination #1 to play for. It’s nice to see. Come play with either McDrai and pot some goals, Saad.

I don't see Saad wanting to sign here. We are overloaded with LW as it is and we have Kane possibly coming

Klingberg picked us because we have a hole at RD

Dude, he’s getting caved. Nurse’s number in the playoffs are better than Parayko’s this year.

43% HDGF
46% HDCF
45% xGF

Yeah- he is terrible. When he is on the ice- the ice is tilted in the opposition’s favour. We have posters complaining about Bouchard’s 60%HDCF- what do you think 46% will look like.
Parayko is an interesting player in which the advanced stats don't tell the whole story. His actual "defensive" metrics, such as defending the rush, in zone defending, shot suppression, are all really good. His transition game and puck moving aren't great, he has a tendency to be like Nurse and hold on to the puck a bit too long when skating it up the ice. BUT he's got a bomb of a shot and scoring a ton this year. He's also more than half the year with 3 washed up players in Suter, and Leddy- his numbers have improved with Fowler. He's a real good top 4 Dman right now, but the question probably would be, do the Oilers want to spend 6 mill on him until 2030? Will his body hold up?

Rantanen has two-way acumen and I'd argue that he's a Hossa caliber winger. I'm not arguing that he'd be a smart add at $14m if it takes away from an integral part of your roster. But Rantanen is a top 10 forward in the league. He's a three position forward that routinely elevates his icetime into the stratosphere.
Hossa was perennially in the Selke discussion, Rantanen is not getting any serious Selke consideration, nor does he PK. Also in CHI Toews, Kane, and Hossa could be and often were separated and each was capable of carrying a line or markedly improving the level of play of those around them.

Rantanen with MacKinnon (2022-25) has a GF% of 59.6
Rantanen without MacKinnon (2022-25) has a GF% of 45.9
MacKinnon without Rantanen (2022-25) has a GF% of 61.6

No debate from me that Rantanen is an elite winger, cream of the crop and I like him a ton more than Timo Meier or Patrick Laine who've been prior big ticket targets of many on this board, but I don't think he is capable of producing elite results away from a high end center, like if he was paired with RNH or Henrique I think his numbers would be hurt very significantly on top of that he plays Drai's spot on the PP.

You can argue why would we ever separate him from atleast one of McDrai which is not unreasonable, but if we did sign him, we'd be a very top heavy team with likely some weak bottom 6 lines that we might feel need the odd kick start from time to time and Rantanen wouldn't give us that flexibility.

If Rantanen joins the Oilers, RNH is getting booted off the 1st PP unit. The Oilers isn’t going to waste a 14M player for a bottom 6 player at this point

Rantanen effectiveness would be similar to Hossa minus the selke level of defense but a higher injection of octane. I honestly think he will mesh well with McDavid

A lot of teams has a hole on the right side tho. The reason he picked us is the same reason Skinner picked us. Chance at the cup and bigger payday after this season. No doubt Saad has the same idea on his mind. Saad isn’t going to make 5M disappear like that without thinking he will make more than that in the future

Its nice players might want to play here.

That doesn't mean you have to bring in every fringe former top 6 guy because they think they can still play. Saad is having a miserable season. Worst GA/60 of any forward on the Blues by a country mile. Only one worse than him was Kapanen before they waived. Who has come here and put up the worst GA/60 of any of our forwards by a country mile.

But at $1m there would be literally 0 risk.

What photos do you have of J Skinner that will have him waive his NMC?
Well if I show you we lose all our leverage!

Skinner hasn't had a stretch of play the length or quality of the one he's been on since November in his career. To suggest there is no growth is simply inaccurate. It really isn't difficult to look at his book of work and see that he's been fine for 3/4ths of the season, and the 3 that he has been good in have been consecutively.

Not sure how you qualify "top" teams, but recently he's shut out the Kings and Bruins and been north of .920 in games against the Knights (twice), Lightning and Avalanche.

Outside a handful of games (like any goalie), he's been fine for three straight months.

His numbers against top teams this year is very concerning.

Stuart Skinner vs top-10* teams :2-7-3, 0.871 SV%, 3.49 GAA

Stuart Skinner vs all other teams: 16-4-0, 0.916 SV%, 2.27 GAA

You really want to bet the last year you'll ever have McDavid/Drai/Bouch for this cheap on the above? Because we ain't gonna be playing the Buffalos of the world in the playoffs.

I would rather find someone else who can take over the crease in a situation if Skinner shits the bed in the playoffs.

And no, I don't see any growth in his game. Struggling to stay above .900 on a top defensive team in the league and barely a hair above Pickard is not impressive, neither is being 27th in the league for save percentage (Pickard being 28th).

Saad would probably be a good locker room addition as well. I remember when he left Chicago the first time, it was reported that the leadership group wanted him back and so the Hawks traded Panarin to bring him back. Now that obviously is horrendous value-wise, but it might speak to the value that group placed on that player (pretty sure Bowman was GM as well).

But he's scored 20+ goals in every regular season except this year and one more year before when the season ended early.
