Someone back in the thread mentioned us maybe trading him. That would take some other team sending us a similar RD, but I don't see it happening

From 3.9 to 10+, that’s insane and will cripple this organization. Way too many warts for that salary.

Walking away from a guy because he's had a down year right after having a dominant playoffs (HOF numbers...) would be one of the worst mistakes this org has ever made

If he is demanding 10M+ you look at trading him / his rights but otherwise you take the good with the bad and move on.

You're not going to get much on a guy that isn't cost-controlled and could walk at free agency, unless it's an established talent like Rantanen, and even then, that return was underwhelming IMO, even as a rental. Bouchard would not be a rental, which would have more to do with that than anything else.

Ya, it’s a tough one but much like Rantanen who is established if he prices himself out of reality you move on.

As much I've pushed for the Oilers to sign Klingberg, I wouldn't expect him to come in and be a top 4 guy. Even if he returns to his form in Dallas, he was a defensive liability in the lineup and prone to way more mistakes than Bouchard.

I shouldn't be surprised that the dude hasn't even played a game yet and fans are already penciling him in Bouchards spot.

Klingberg addressed his defensive limitations in the years leading up to the surgery. His injury limited his mobility and impacted his ability to proeprly defend.
If this surgery is as effective as Klingberg claims it is (and his mobility is back close to 100%) then there is little to no reason to think his defensive game will be the same as it was pre-surgery.

Now I am not suggesting that he will replace Bouchard. I am just suggesting that if he can get up to speed in a few weeks then he could very well be a top 4 option at RD and possibly even on the PP.

$10 million with the increase in cap would be like Nurse getting $13 million probably. If we can get him for $10 million you take it and run.

This is definitely a misconception about the player. He's not at all afraid to go to the tough areas even if he is not really a physical player. He's also not exactly a small guy. He is actually quite stocky and is strong on his skates.

Skinner has never played in the playoffs in the NHL. But for what it is worth he was fantastic in the playoffs for the Rangers. He scored 20 goals in 20 games playing as a 17 year old. Junior stats don't mean much now of course but I think the idea that he is not a playoff player needs some evidence to back it up.

If they can find a better option I'd have no problem if they move on. And in hindsight, Holloway over Skinner would have been a big win. But that was not really the choice at the time they signed him.

All the goals at even strength and playing on the 4th line usually. Staples, who I hate, put up on article quantifying their defensive lapses. Skinner was tied with Nuge. Nuge plays on the first line. Let’s not look at +/-, which is a stat that makes little sense.

+/- feels pretty meaningless when looking at it across different teams. It makes plenty of sense when looking at guys on the same team.

And that Staples article was actually highlighting the at Skinner has been the worst defensive winger on the team. Not tied with Nuge.

If we had the ability to make the assessment, I would love to part ways with his inconsistency, lack of focus, lack of compete, and inopportune f-ups. I would try to trade him to Buffalo for Owen Power. We can't afford two big defence contracts amongst Nurse and Bouchard.

I’m not sure we are reading the same articles. The article I’m referring Staples was speaking about giving Skinner top 6mins and Hopkins bottom 6. They were both responsible for the most mistakes per 60mins. I’ll try to find it

Suspensions and/or fines to the team would be on the table if it was my call. It's flagrant.

But I think more likely since Alex was first he'll get away with it and by noon tomorrow the league will have released an official list of acceptable reasons for withdrawal that will be extremely strict. Then start handing the suspensions out if players/teams continue with this nonsense.

Like I said 24 years old. 80 points last year. All time points in one playoffs for a defenseman. Find another D man with similar metrics in the NHL. The oilers do not make it past the first round without Bouchard. Find me a 24 year old D man with the same metrics and accomplishments. I’ll wait.

We have one of the best defensive systems and buy-in across the whole league. The hope is that Klingberg recaptures his physical ability, and then meshes in our system. Look at how Bouchard performed in the playoffs. He was defensively great. Arguably a better all around D than Ekholm was. Klingberg could do the same.

Dallas has been one of the better defensive teams in recent history. That system definitely allowed for Klingberg to produce offensively but they werent able to hide hks warts when healthy. Maybe he needs a change of scenery but it's not like he was a product off a poor system for a bad team.

I think you might be missing my point. I wouldn't be surprised if he should be better than what he was with the Leafs (assuming he is healthy).

My concern is that Klingberg was a very polarizing player in Dallas. Klingberg had 115 points in 180 games in his last 3 seasons with Dallas. However, he was also a combined -53 during that time. He's never been a guy who has been known for his defensive play.
