Carolina is a pretty soft team. Adding Hall and Rantanen doesn't really add to it. The problem they have is center depth and goaltending. This trade doesn't help those areas.

Oilers fan in Hurricanes territory here...

The Canes are like the Gaudreau / Tkachuk-era Flames. Fully-loaded top line, solid defensive structure, but not a whole lot after that. Just a lot of tweeners who overachieve in the regular season only to flame out in the postseason.

That said, they have absolutely missed Teravainen after he went back to Chicago. Rantanen could be really good for re-energizing Aho.

Carolina's problem is that they inevitably get beat singlehandedly by a goalie in the playoffs every year. They need to find enough offence to push through that.

Agreed. They don’t really have enough game breakers. Question is how much of a game breaker is Rantanen away from MacKinnon and Makar.

Will be an interesting trade to look back on a few years.

Its crazy cause Necas was leading the league in scoring at like game 30 and has gone back to his norm since so who knows what you're getting. I like that this makes them a lot less dangerous good thing to look for in a potential wild spot opponent. Its funny because Mackinnon took his last deal to keep a competitive team and the first chance Rantanen has he prices himself out.

I get the feeling that Colorado is going to end up with Brad Marchand at the deadline. Calum Ritchie is a very Boston Bruins-like prospect. And they have a big need at center.
