I think Dallas hit a home run with that Granlund trade. He's just a good, well-rounded veteran forward who I could see following a similar career path as Joe Pavelski.

To get both him and Ceci so early for just a 1st and a 3rd is pretty sneaky.
I don't see it personally. Ceci is legitimately bad, and Granlund is quite honestly nothing like Pavelski. Granlund has always been a pretty below average goalscorer while that was Pavelski's bread and butter. Granlund is a perimeter passer with some speed and good vision, and nothing more.

I don't think he meant stylistically.

He's a consistent 60-65 point player that is a threat when surrounded by talent. Even still managed to get almost 50 assists last year on a team that had one, that's right, one 20-goal scorer.

That doesn’t make it any better lol. Day drinking is one thing, day drinking on the job is another. Not like he’s operating heavy machinery but ffs be a professional.

There’s plenty of talent that never earned an NHL salary that would love that job and got mouths to feed.
You are correct and I'm not trying to joke about it, I actually worry if it might be becoming a problem for him

Ceci has been horrendous.

At least Granlund will make it worthwhile.
There I shortened it lol

I think it was a bad use of a 1st. They could have got someone so much better.

He's good friends with Connor and would be a great add to our team. He'll probably sign in Florida but if he's unsigned come July 1st we better be giving him and his agent a call.

we need to figure out how much money we are going to actually have. Bouchard contract is sitting there and of course on July1st we reup McDavid.

And we need to figure out where we need to spend the money first. I am getting tired of the years goalie debate

Kane was legitimately hurt last year and he decided to play through it. What did that get him? A loss in the finals.
I mean, so was draisaitl. We just need the players to manage to stay healthy. A healthy and Mcdavid and draisaitl the entire playoffs would really help. Oh and skinner to not be total garbage but we all know Stu ‘3 goals on 5 shots’ skinner will be a reality many times come playoff time and he will cost the team. It’ll be a miracle if bowman actually does something.

Arvy gets a lot of hate around here, but I still have hope he turns it on a bit more.

I also think he's the kind of guy that will bring it in the playoffs
I agree with this. Veteran players can struggle in the season because it is an 82 game slog. They often save a lot for the playoffs. That's a smart bet to take.

Sam Bennett is gonna be a good candidate for most overpaid player in the league should he end up hitting free agency. Good player, but he’s never cracked 50 points in the NHL. Some team is going to wildly overpay for his “intangibles”.
He's the kind of guy that you win with in a supporting role. Bennett as a 3C or 3LW here would be amazing.

Sam Bennett at 4.4 million is a welcome addition on any team, and he wouldn't be a 3C he's a bone fide 2nd line forward whose value is greater than his stats indicate. Sam Bennett at 7 million... not so much. He already has a Cup but has never gotten that big bag. I suspect he'll go to the highest bidder and we can't afford to be getting into bidding wars with Bouchard and McDavid needing new contracts soon. Lest we get caught with our pants down on another Holloway/Broberg situation because we wasted 10 million in cap space on Arvidsson/Henrique/Skinner.

Pissing off the "whiners" > winning the Cup. Love it.
Who wants to win the cup? Then you have to carry it around and I heard it's kind of heavy to lift over your head. Far better to have your goalie sewer your chances of winning it so that you don't have to exert more energy.

He's well on his way to a career year this season and he brings more to the table than all of those guys. What would be the max that you'd pay him? With the cap going up I'd consider $6 million. He's easily $2 million better than Arvidsson and Arvi signed before the cap started to shoot upwards.

I think 6 million is around the max I'd go for him too, I just think there's better value to be had out there. He's easily 2 million better than current Arvidsson but is he 2 million better than the 20 goal 60 point Arvidsson we were trying to get? Honestly I think we're better off allocating our remaining cap to a good top 4 dman in their prime and at least a tandem goalie after locking up Bouchard and McDavid. With the amount of top end talent we have, we should probably go full Vegas mode and pay our stars, avoid the 3-5 million dollar range mid-end player (Vegas only has the homegrown Nicolas Roy in this pay range) unless they're taking a massive discount, and fill out the rest of the roster with young players, reclamation projects (we are doing this to an extent with guys like Pod), and veterans willing to take low cap hit deals (again, we're doing this to an extent).

If given the choice though I'll for sure take an "upper middle class tier" player like Sam Bennett over the trash that we targeted this offseason. That 3-5 million dollar range "middle class" NHL player tends to lead to some of the worst contracts in the NHL besides your obvious Lucic/Vlasic level albatrosses and we should avoid it if possible. There can be some value to be had there, but the batting percentage is a lot lower than just outright paying great players or going bargain bin hunting. And has resulted in some absolute disasters for us like Campbell, Kassian, Henrique, Skinner, Poolparty, Yamamoto, many of whom have costed us or may cost us future Stanley Cups.
