He can skate, make plays and move the puck up the ice. Hes better defensively than he gets credit for.

He also makes mistakes that make you wish Bouchard was on the ice for 40 minutes a game instead of him

Byram is going to cost 60% the amount of Bouchard. In no way is Bouchard worth anywhere close to 10+M a season.. 19m to Bouchard and Nurse? That's how you anchor yourself for the next 5 years.

You are preaching to the wrong guy. I love Bouchard and rarely complain about him because he's drives play, makes passes that no one else on the team can make and has some of the best analytics in the NHL. His pairing with ekholm is a top 10 pairing and he's like 6th in dmen scoring.

You need to create the rumors. Start conversations about players on struggling teams and put some doubt into the minds of those players.

I'm hearing a lot of buzz about Alex Romanov. Seems like the perfect fit for the Oilers.

Franks plugged in. I heard the same thing about provorov and his brother at Ohio state. If he's willing to sign an extension with Columbus they might prioritize that more than draft picks.

The NTC that Karlsson holds and his previously mentioned request in Sanjose that he wants to go somewhere he can compete for a Cup also lends credence to the possibility I would say. Obviously Dubas picked him up for Pitts hoping he can squeeze out some last remaining competitiveness out of Sid and Geno. Conversations must have been had at the time of acquisition that EK65 at the time was on board with. But now that that may not happen in Pitts, I wonder if that conversation changes and if an element of “doing Karlsson a solid” can play into this trade possibility. Dubas of course benefits too with the appropriate picks/prospects package. A free-ing of his cap space may also be enticing for GM that’s always been pretty active.

I don't see Dubas doing a deal out of a favour to Karlsson. He arguably did that in acquiring what was thought to be an unmoveable contract to free Karlsson from a down to the wood rebuild in San Jose. This will be about whether Dubas can extract value (cap dump, asset acquisition) and frankly face-saving for an awful deal for his new team.

I personally believe Dubas would be smarter to take a trade hit and give his team already tilting into extinction phase some cap space to use to build up support depth. But it comes down to Karlsson if he would accept a deal somewhere... and it sounds like Edmonton was a previous strong consideration.

The landscape definitely can't be clear at this point. Who knows which teams in the East are making the playoffs or not. Like we saw Boston last night, that team looks like shit, and obviously has some needs up front. NYI, can't be happy to stand pat, another year without playoffs and not much of a future ahead of them. Hmmmm

Yeh maybe... but going from a deep dark rebuild to a rebuild just about to start... is not ideal. For Karlsson anyways, but we know he doesn't sit in the GM chair. He can only have preferences and veto power with his NTC due to location. Ultimately, it will be in Dubas hands.

He also said Bowman started making calls around the league recently.

99% sure Frank has no clue what he’s saying because there are NO Dmen available right now in the East, in particular, because every single team outside of the playoffs is like 6 points away from a playoff spot

Heard that segment. Oilers war room put together a list. Did not like hearing that anyone from a depth defenceman to a Top 4 is on it. Sounds like we are at the mercy of the market, and not trying to Go For It. But yeh, it's early days and we still have to see how the East shakes out.
