I think they will, it's just too much noise. Also the Isles have three RD to move while Barzal is a hometown boy and there's been talk for years of him returning to Van.

Pettersson, Hoglander, Desharnais for Barzal and Pulock. Everyone wins.

The Edmonton Oilers are keeping an eye on the trade market, specifically for a defenceman to add to their roster by the March 7 trade deadline.

With some salary cap space to play with, any major addition to the blueline would have to result in some cap juggling and the possibility of a current roster player being sent the other way.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on “The Powerplay” on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio on Thursday, the Oilers are scouring the market but may not make a move for a defenceman until closer to the deadline to maximize their cap space.

The Oilers would ideally like to add a right-shot rearguard, but are open to adding a lefty, if the right deal presents itself.

With the uncertainty surrounding Evander Kane’s status – he remains on LTIR after undergoing surgery in September – the Oilers are uncertain, to date, if they will have extra cap space to play with should Kane be deemed unable to play for the balance of the regular-season. It was initially thought he would be able to come back at some point in early-2025.

Should Kane be unfit to play until the post-season, the Oilers could then exceed the cap by $5.25 million in LTIR overage space.

Several defencemen remain linked to the Oilers, including Montreal Canadiens rearguard David Savard, Anaheim Ducks blueliner Brian Dumoulin, and Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Ivan Provorov –Savard is a right-handed shot, while Provorov plays both sides.

I wonder how much money a website like this makes.

You could probably pump out about 20 of these articles with ChatGPT every day. Not even an ounce of journalism in there haha.

The mistake Nuck management is making is that they're still under the delusion that they're a legitimate Stanley Cup contender, and just moving one of Petterson and Miller will clear the path for them to re-ascend to greatness.

If they were a smart organization, they would recognize that this roster doesn't work, these starts don't work, and start thinking longer term now about how to shuffle the deck in a way that pays the most long term dividends.

Instead they're going to panic move one of them because then they'll be contenders again this year. Laughable.

For a half second I thought that was Chiarelli in the thumbnail.

We've certainly been searching for d-men for that long.

It’s pretty much a given either Pettersson or Miller is getting traded.

My only concern is that Drury will do something even stupider and give up a ton for Miller.
Miller made their team way harder to play against in playoffs. I hope they trade him.

You aren't totally right here. Former Coach Boudreau said it. GM Alvin pretty much confirmed disfunction. Friedman said they were told to sort it out and they didn't.

You’ve got the GM talking about it. The coach talking about it. It’s not just media non sense it’s a thing and someone is probably getting traded.

Who. Who the hell is linking us to Savard? The Montreal fanbase and media?

And when did Dumoulin hit our radar?

I would welcome Miller on the Oilers if we had 8M
Yeh he can yell at McD for not skating fast enough.

And yell at Drai for not putting enough zip on his one tee.

I'd hate for Miller and his psycho tendencies on this team.

Pagnotta has never called a thing in his life yet that website is pretty popular.
These guys look at the Oilers and think...I heard that they have a terrible defense so if I say the Oilers are scouring the league for defensemen what could go wrong?

Facts don't matter anymore. The Oilers may very well be looking at adding someone on the back end but I suspect that their level of desperation is far far less than a lot of these guys believe.

Actually it's not. You can hear a Richardson interview saying he told JT to lay off Petey. He admits he loves JT, but says even he told JT to go easier

However, i sense Petey deserves the "bullying" after his entitled attitude, contract holdout and his massive streaks of no shows. This last stretch where he finally decided to produce with JT's absence the dissapears when he's back screams volumes

Please do make Lafreniere a centrepiece in a Miller trade. Works for me as someone that despises the Nucks.
I like Laf. And think he can be a leader with untapped potential. I'd actually hate for that to happen.

I swear Oilers having terrible defence is just assumed by "analysts" in the East.

Yeah no.

It’s clear they don’t get along.
As long as they can play with each other I don't see the problem. The tell that this is overblown is that players like Horvat have come out and said this wasn't a new thing. I haven't seen any direct evidence that this feud is real. It's media speculation. The players themselves have said there is nothing to this

So? Maybe Miller is just a super opinionated guy. Nowhere in what I've seen did anyone have a solemn discussion with Miller for the sake of the team. Its more likely people giving Miller advice. Pettersson himself said that the rift between the two isn't much of anything. He really didn't need to say that

How much more evidence do you require? Miller punching Petey during a game?
