Bob Stauffer says the Oilers need help in the top 4 on defense and the bottom six on forward. He said that all he is going to say is to give the General Manager some time.

He expects Emberson to sign long term very soon.

He says the fans would be naive to think that the only move the Oilers will make is on defense. He says there may be an internal move that will be made (Savoie?) and that he has no clue on what is going on with Evander Kane.
Wonder what his definition of bottom 6 is.

This team needs help in the middle 6 not the bottom 6.

Sure they need a 4C but they could you know play Philp, the guy who should of been the 4C since game 1.

Stauffer is exhausting

Atleast put philp in there for a stretch of games to see if he can handle it before you go out and spend assets on that position.

Get Skinner on L1 and put Nuge in the 3C hole. (Keep PP1 unit as is)

Get Skinner going here boys.
Tell him to show some chemistry first. He started with Leon and Arvidsson yet he looked lost. Leon and Arvidsson were the only two who looked like they were creating something

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Knoblauch is stubborn. He gave some pretty good insight today on his thought process. He wants to get as many guys going as possible. So even in Skinner is relegated to the 4th line, or is a healthy scratch he doesn't really care as long as the other 12 forwards are put in positions where they can succeed. He must believe Nuge and Podkolzin are better fits in the top 6, as he wouldn't stop praising Podkolzin.

The media asked him if he thought Skinner was a top 6 guy and not suited for a bottom 6 role and he basically agreed that Skinner had been miscast. To me that's Indirectly called out JJ and Bowman. Clearly management and coaches aren't on the same page as Jackson signed Skinner to be a top 6 guy and Knoblauch refuses to put him there.

5v5 Podkolzin has played 43 minutes with McDavid and 292 minutes with Draisaitl. Their advanced stats are great but Podkolzin still only has 3 goals and 12 points on the season.

Meanwhile Skinner has 6 goals and 12 points this year to have the same production. Skinner has played 61 minutes 5v5 with Draisaitl and 50 minutes with McDavid. Skinner has the same production as Podkolzin this year depsite playing 1/3 of the top 6 minutes Podkolzin has received.

I get that Skinner hasn't been great defensively but that's never been his game. Let him finish plays and shoot the puck. I get McDavid and Draisaitl might not like him because he doesn't win puck battles and cover for them defensively. He needs his linemates to do the heavy lifting but he can create with time and space. Once they see him shooting the puck and putting up goals, they might actually want to play with him.

I guess what it comes down to is that it's frustrating that we have another "failed experiment" but I don't feel like Knoblauch even tried. Meanwhile Arvidsson and Nuge go right back to their spots and we see no lineup changes after being embarrassed by the ducks.

The frustrating part is that JS hasn’t even got much of an opportunity. Hes barely played with CM/LD. If he played with them and didn’t produce I would get it.

Arvidsson has been hurt so much and JS still can’t get a shot.

I thought KK philosophy was to empower players. JS has pretty much been in the dog house since game 1.

I mean I get it. KK doesn’t like him and doesn’t trust him. But for a team with no cap space, its a pretty big f*ck up from JJ and KK.

There’s a lot of angst over Jeff Skinner.

He is what he is and unfortunately that’s going to hold him back in this lineup.

I'm going to guess Ty Emberson will be signed by the end of the week
What does he even get paid? I heard something about a long term deal with him too.. so that’s at least 3 years.

He’s an NHL dman for sure, but right now he’s just that in my eyes.

I wonder if Bowman is trying to extend a couple guys now before making trades. It makes sense especially if you’re trying to trade for players with term, you need to know what kind of space you have in upcoming seasons.

Disappointing to see a $3 million off season priority signing devolve into a healthy scratch after moving down the line-up instead of up during some line up injury facilitated opportunity.

Clear disconnect between coach and player based upon well established, well known gaps in playing a responsible 200 foot game. Have to wonder how management and pro scouting missed badly in their projection of fit and alignment to this team's coaching and systems play.

Skinner's a player that can get hot and score in bunches. So while the early return is an expensive F we'll have to see if team and coach find a path forward.

So Montreal's record has been around 6-1-0 ever since they acquired Alexandre Carrier... an ACTUAL top 4 defender.

I don't think Oilers management understand this concept.

Fitting a Top 4 defender into a top 4 position instead of garbage like Stecher and Dermott will make the team better... Do JJ and Bowman know this?

MacT would've taken Juolevi. It's odd how fond you are of MacT considering his hands are all over the decade of darkness.
MacT was a bright light in the DoD. And as much as it pains this resident KLowe hater, he too wasn’t the biggest problem.

The real issue is that the cost of operating in that era of the NHL and the shallow pockets of the EIG (bless their hearts though). In hindsight it could have been so much worse without EIG, Lowe, and Craig .

I mean replace Lowe with Tambo, Craig with Chiarelli , during that period, and the team would still be searching for legitimacy.

Truly a dark period of Oilers hockey.

Bob Stauffer says he doesn't know when Evander Kane will return or if he will return this season after his new surgery.

Darryl Katz bought the team in the summer of 2007. A year removed from Edmonton's berth in the Cup Final.

There was a brief period where the remnants of that team and young talents like Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano and Rowbear Nilsson were going to bring them back into the playoff picture. But it was a short-lived period that also consisted of the Sheldon Souray debacle. Our management stunk.

Neither one of those guys deserves to be in a management role again.

What new surgery? Last update was that he'd be back late in the season at the earliest, but nothing about having to go back in for more surgery
