He seems unlikely in regards to the Nurse at RD experiment just because he's also played a bunch of RD.

You'd probably just leave Nurse at LD and play Provorov at RD if he was the guy.

Having both be 'flexible' would make him a preferred candidate over a defenseman that would require Nurse to play full time on his opposite hand.

His age and potential cap hit should CBJ retain also fits Edmonton's needs fairly well. He's at a point in his career where extending him wouldn't be an overly expensive option also.

Oilers are smart to trial Nurse at RD. It does reinforce some urgency to fix a glaring hole but also the reality that they are somewhat disadvantaged with the volatile, trade market conditions to which they can't control. Utah for one example losing two RD have a significant war chest of prospects and draft picks to replace this position need that has scarcity and premium price.

Loved Provorov aș a junior with a lot of viewings of him. He seemed on track early in his NHL career to be a big minute top pair guy but he's kinda evaporated into an expensive question mark. Might he reset within a competitive environment and more manageable support role? Maybe.

The Oilers have substantive work to do to get this blueline up to championship level. The Utah situation whether they act on the trade market or not reinforces the risk involved of the unknown, beyond control reality to fix this roster composition problem through the external market route.

They need him. And I'm not all that surprised that Kane might blow through his recovery time table. Frankly still in disbelief about his recovery and return from that life threatening wrist injury.

We'll see how this shakes out. But again the contingency planning course adds more uncertainty to fix roster problems.

I bet the team is counting on Kane being back before playoffs so he can shake the rust. We are accruing cap space for our addition, and you can't add the two together for some big player. I honestly don't see much point in adding more than just the RD that we need. It wouldn't be more impactful than getting Kane up to true 100% without the rust

For sure, but Provorov will probably cost extra because of that RD ability.

To me, the end goal of the Nurse at RD experiment is to find a LD that's significantly cheaper than what's out there for RD.

No. We are not slower. Someone posted stats in another thread and that it showed arvidsson was actually faster than what he replaced.

We have not lost speed

Ultimately it's fruitless too. We didn't have a LD spot for him in the top 4. He's doing well because he gets to play on his best side with another partner on their best side. The real tragedy with Broberg is that we didn't trade him for assets that even come close to his worth. I doubt if we had him that he'd be as successful or that it would have fixed our team at all

I’ve been wishing we’d trade Nurse for the last 2-3 years.. just not good enough and way too much money. We just got punished for it by losing these guys because we couldn’t match.

I’m not even sure if Nurse can be traded, but holy f*** that was a horrible contract and it must be removed.

Also as far as trading Broberg, he probably didn’t have a lot of value in a trade until he emerged in the playoffs. Maybe St. Louis thought about it and decided to just offer sheet instead. But there wasn’t much time to trade him for any decent return. Jackson/Bowman were caught with their pants down and it’s ultimately their fault, maybe just Jackson.

I guarantee if the Oil offered him the Dermott contract he'd have signed.

I know a lot of people are in love with the idea of LTIRing Kane until playoffs, but to me getting Kane up to speed with 6 weeks+ of games is a much more ideal situation. Trying to get him up to speed in the heat of a playoff series is a risky proposition and to me a healthy Kane who’s back up to running at or near full speed is going to have a much bigger impact than any addition that could potentially be acquired at the deadline.

Nurse is a top 3 Dman on our team and, yes he's highly paid but hes way better than the shit we have on our team.

Darnell is trash. He has stopped being physical, he can’t think or move the puck quickly, he’s not a PP specialist. He’s a D liability often. He isn’t top 3 in the majority of current NHL markets.

I hope he can play top 4 on the off wing here and the team can find a LHD partner at the TDL, but just think about that for a bit…top4 on his off wing when he isn’t top 3 on his natural side.

It doesn’t bode well. But I’m hoping…

He is gone. It is time to move on. But some are so jilted they just can't give the kid his due. He averaged 18 minutes in the toughest games of the season. That is a noteworthy showing.
