Klim Kostin basically fits to a tee in that spot.
Kostin and Podkolzin are both guys who likely don't belong on NHL rosters. I'd prefer a guy that is toolsy, multi-positional and kills penalties. Scott Laughton comes to mind.

I still have a bit of hope for Podz, but he can't handle a pass.

And some role guys just fit better on different teams. Kostin works well here, for whatever reason it seemed like the city really pumped him up.

How many players go back to their old team with their own jersey on in the playoffs, lol.

He can shoot and hit and fight, which is fine.

I'd like to see

Skinner McDavid Hyman
Podkolzin Drai Arvidsson
RNH Henrique Brown
Janmark Ryan Perry

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Stetcher
Kulak Brown
Emberson

The one season Podkolzin had a fair amount of success he was played with other talented players. He can grind on the wall and retreive pucks and hit ... let him just focus on that and then more talented players in the top 6 can get him the puck. It adds more sandpaper to our top 6.

RNH Henrique Brown should be a very good 3rd line.

Josh Brown in brings another big body to our lineup who hits a lot (more than Desharnais). Lets not over react to a freaking pre-season when everyone else was playing like crap too. This guy has 300 NHL games experience and was a plus player on a bad Coyotes squad last year.
I think until Kane comes back we can’t spread McD Drai and Nuge to 3 lines. You never know though if Pod could click you could be on to something.

I know it's probably a pipedream, but I can't help but feel management has targeted Rasmus Andersson and may have already laid some groundwork for a deal if the teams are where the belong in the standings come TDL.

They know him well, they lost Lavoie to ensure they accrued enough capspace to fit him nearly perfectly. I think he would be a great partner next to Nurse.

I know it's Calgary and why would they help us when tons of teams will be looking to add a two way RHD. But I think there is a way to sell it to them to get them to atleast give an offer from us a fair shake.

Regardless, I just can't help but feel they have targeted someone with how they seemed so adamant to accrue cap.

People need to stop suggesting this. Hell would freeze over before Conroy trades us a quality asset

I bet the flames don’t even end up sellers. I could see Huberdeau having a big year, a few of their young forwards stepping up and wolf playing really good leading them to just missing the bubble. The franchise can’t even tank properly.

?? No they will crater, their goaltending won't hold up, and once good teams get their games in order, all the plucky muster and hard work of the Flames will get crushed under a lack of overall talent.

I'm totes cool with the Flames/Conroy reading too deeply into a hot start and trading the meager young assets they do have for an older C that doesn't do anything but cement them harder as a bubble team now and in the future. Maybe they'll be relevant again in the 2030s.

So, the large majority of "experts", talking heads, etc. were also ALL wrong when it came to their view and feelings on this team? Everyone was tricked by Jackson, and none them actually know what they are talking about? Not only did the moves in the offseason, that most people like, backfire, but those moves also caused our top players from last season, proven players, who have played together for a while now, to also fail. Skinner, Arv., and company have made Hyman, McDavid, RNH, Bouchard, and Ekholm (Arguably the best 1st line and top D pairing in the NHL last season) to now become crap? wow. Jackson must be some kind of super idiot, how the heck did he trick so many people? myself included, I feel like such as idiot.

I thought the slow start might of had to do with the combination of...

-a high amount of turnover (Skinner/Arv./Pod/Emb./Dermott - IN, Ceci/Broberg/Holloway/Vinny/Kane (injury) - OUT)
-Stanley Cup Final Hangover/Short Summer(Offseason)
-small sample size

what a dummy I am. But, at least I'm not alone. Oh well, last year was fun, might as well watch the NFL.
so far, this has aged rather well. But who here, seriously thought they would be that bad all year? 29/97/93/18/2/33 are all still struggling a little, and playing far from the best versions of themselves. Give this team a chance to come together, to gel, and to reach their potential. I just double checked outside, the sky is still not falling.

Yes and no. I still don't know wth is going on with #93 and Podkolzin has been game but just doesn't seem to fit anywhere given how Knob chooses to use our bottom six. J. Skinner is coming around which is great and RV is a consummate pro so no concerns on those two, but we badly need some chemistry to emerge in that middle six... oh, and a right shot D to find their home next to Nurse.

Really the big issue is that the other Skinner has been our worst player, which you just can't have out of that player/position. If he shits the bed again in Dallas I don't know what you do though outside of (finally) firing Schwartz and hoping a fresh voice can turn him around mentally. I don't see a sub $1M goalie coming up on waivers who would last to us AND be an improvement.

Stetcher looks better with Nurse than Ceci ever did, which kind of confirms what some people were saying even last year.

The bottom six is playing fine, Podkolzin isn't producing goals but he's not like some massive liability out there either and he hits quite a bit.

The main issue is our top 6 guys + special teams are not playing well at all so far. PP + PK needs to be better and guys like Hyman and RNH need to wake up.

Watching Broberg develop and blossom right b4 our eyes in St.Louis and were stuck with AHL material player on our 2nd pairing. leaves a sour taste in mouth. Anyone saying Stecher looks better than Ceci should have thier heads examined. Emberson is also not the answer.

It is the extremely obvious play. I am skeptical that a deal has already been talked about.

Also you never know. Ekholm wasn't really for sale so maybe another unexpected candidate is out there

I will say that I don't think that Calgary will avoid a trade with us just because we are their rival. They already proved that they didn't care about that.

Taking a different approach on the “Bowman is the cause of everything bad here and should be in jail” diatribe?

If only he earned a spot out of camp the 3 previous camps so that we knew exactly what we had in him over a full season. Instead he shit the bed.

We need to give new wingers more than 10 games before we make judgements about them. This already happened with Athanasiou.

Stamkos has 0 goals in 4 games in Nashville. Marchessault only got his first yesterday.

If star wingers need adjustments, why wouldn't middle-6 wingers?
