I disagree on Skinner. The oilers won in spite of him. Skinner has been the worst goalie in the cap era only 20 or more playoff games. Oilers are the only team in history to have won a round when their starter has a .833 save %. He almost cost us Vancouver and Dallas (though he had an amazing game to close out Dallas). If you look at Florida-
You can say the difference in the series was 4-5 saves. Florida got them- Edmonton did not.

Ceci wasn’t. Ceci was bad in every single pair he played on and brought down his teammates metrics when he was on the ice. He was very, very bad
See, this is where stats don't tell the story. Who was getting the hardest assignments? Nurse's pair with the rookie and the guy looking to break the record for a negative +/-? Ek-Bouch who got all the gravy Mcdrai minutes? Or Kulak-Ceci? Of course if that pair is played against the elites they are gonna get "caved" if they are also playing with our 3rd/4th lines, but otherwise you can't run that 5 man unit that Knob loved, or you end up trotting out Nurse who looked worse than ever and a green Broberg.

Again, Ceci was fine with Kulak. Him and Nurse together was horrible, and Nurse with Broberg was okay thanks to Broberg, but Nurse still looked bad. We didn't have another RD that could take the hardest assignments, which yeah that's above Ceci's pay grade. Nurse was the problem on D last playoffs, not Ceci.

That's not a bar for a top four D. That's a bar for a RD of his skillset and draft pedigree.

With Hunt going there, I'm making calls now setting up a play for Provorov if I'm Bowman. Hunt is ready to play games now.

CBJ is set up well for the draft this year, so they'd probably be open to taking our 1st in '26. They may also have some interest in our Russian who seems to be making a name in the KHL this season.

That'll be Edmonton's 1st 2026 I guess is what we can offer. Don't think Columbus takes less.

You know the Oilers can trade next year’s first if they want right?
And their 2nd and their 3rd and their 4th? And a prospect that's probably equal or greater than what we have in Beau Akey?

Hunt is a prospect we don't really have right now. An NHL-ready young D currently thriving in the A.

I was all for targeting Jiricek, but that would've been a pretty big dent. That was a lot of trade capital that the Oilers do not have.

OHHH WOE IS ME! ...the river of tears from the lotus blossom eater will be endless. How terrible it is we still have Beau Akey and our '26 1st instead of this poor skating D with a god awful agent. A D who likely can't help us this year but has such powerful upside. Lets beat ourselves with branches and whips that we can feel the true pain of this loss.

What a pile of shyte. Lets figure out what we should do...and publish it rather than dissolving in self pity a some future. Stan would have to be utterly blind not to see we need three or four guys.

I don't think so either. If we add a prospect they may be willing to throw in one of their later picks so we don't lose the pick outright.

I think the Oilers need to find ways to continue taking swings at the draft. Can't continue doing what Holland did in 22 and 23, coming out of the draft with three or four guys. That just kills your depth.

Is anyone actually complaining we didn’t get Jiricek for that price?

Lol isnt this why he wanted to leave

You have to remind us again?

JFC. All this for a primadonna defenceman. Way over the established market values of previously traded 1st round defenceman. The power of shopping around I guess.

How about that Broberg return though. Broberg could very well be better than Jiricek.

I can't speak for everyone but it seems to me that it's just that other teams are making moves to help their team while the Oilers are just waiting it out. We are a team that should be better than we are except for a couple of glaring holes on the roster. We should be one of the aggressive teams. I don't mind the fans raising the temperature on management until we get what we need

I could see that our team is waiting because we want a player with maximum impact. If we get that player I'm sure everyone will be happy.

Trading Arvidsson would be a mistake in my opinion. Injury prone yes but his game is something that works with Leon. I’d give him a chance
5pts in 16 games equals "works with Leon"?? The guy f***ing sucks so far this year. Podkolzin who is younger, and can contribute in more areas, and is a fraction of the cost is pacing for the same basically.

Man stop looking at friggin metrics and look on the ice. Our breakout game is AWFUL. Defence doesn't just mean not allowing goals. It means breaking the puck out tape to tape, transition game, our rush game, moving forward. We are not good at things like that. We can't have McDavid go end to end with the puck every shift. How are people not getting this? Last 2 Stanley Cup Teams had really good puck movers.

FLA: Ekblad, Forsling, OEL, Montour (i believe he was on the team)

VGK: Pietrangelo, Theodore, Martinez

It's not a coincidence
This is such a ridiculous take. So bad. Even worse than your emotional outbreaks. No- the breakout game isn’t awful. You know that little thing they always show- the shot clock- there is a reason that Oilers outshoot their opponents- it’s because they breakout the puck well. You know why they generate so many scoring chances and prevent them- the breakout.

Your statement of “defense doesn’t mean not allowing goals” is comical. That’s exactly what defence means. Prevent goals. You’re always on Bouchard- he is one of the best in the league in transition.

Dude- this take is just horribly bad, not backed by any data. It is purely your bias based on what bad media says. Sportsnet, CBC, Staples (who I hate), Servalli, Stauffer- have all pointed out and said the Oilers defence is strong.

As far as your comparables- last year they couldn’t move the puck. They replaced Ceci with Stetcher who had good transitional defence metrics when he got here, Kulak, and now Nurse.

I'm not writing him off just yet. His tenacity is something that has value, but I'm not sure I want him playing 100% at this point of the year if it's going to result in him missing time when it matters.

I think he's a guy who could get hot. I think that Skinner is, too. But if there's a way we can put these guys on a third line that doesn't get caved in for a big chunk of the remaining schedule, I prefer that to having them ride the gravy train to another NHL paycheck.

Off topic, Daemon Hunt has me hoping the Oilers do their due diligence with Luca Munzenberger. He seems like the kind of slow burn prospect that could have a similar path in pro hockey. Guys like that are valued.

lol- stats do tell whole story. I’d love to see where you are getting your data from. Broberg and Nurse gotten eaten alive with Broberg (in his limited time) took the lead with xGA when he was on the ice. Fortunate for him- Skinner had a .940 save percentage when he was on the ice. Broberg wasn’t even treading water himself- let alone carrying Nurse.

That third pair was one of our strength. When Ceci was moved on to it, we saw Kulak’s numbers take a nose dive. Just Ceci moving to the third pair saw Florida have more successful zone entries, Florida prevented zone exits, and Oilers couldn’t successfully enter the zone. When Kulak was paired with Nurse- those numbers drastically improved.

Like I said- Ceci was bad

You could have said this about all our forwards before arvidsson got hurt. He was one of the more productive ones at the time as sad as that is.

Podz had like 1 point at that time…

Zero chance we were winning a bidding war for Jiricek. Managements goal is clearly to use our picks/Prospects for proven NHL players for the playoff run. No way they’re giving all that up for a player that’s won’t help us for a few more seasons if he pans out.

I got my data from watching the games. Now since you love spreadsheets, I decided to check my bias, and now I'm wondering where you get your stats? As per money puck for last playoffs

OIxGA/60
Broberg- 3.3
Nurse- 3.48
Ceci- 2.94

For high danger it is the same pattern, Ceci the best with Nurse the worst, by far.

For goals for, it does look worse for Ceci, same with Kulak, Brown, Vinny and all of our defensive players. but it follows with my logical conclusion that he was facing the tough competition with poor offensive linemates. Of course they won't have a ton of expected goals for, whatever the hell those are. In reality, what happened is Ceci provided us with some crucial points in big moments, and Darnell made some egregious mistakes (Ceci did too) and provided little actual offense. Like some of Nurse's decisions last year were mind boggling, thank God he seems to be back on track this year so far.

I don't see a stat that Nurse bested Broberg in for you to back that claim up at all. On ice S% isn't it, that can point to a Dman forcing opponents to spots where the goalie is more comfortable making a save, regardless of whether nerds call it high danger or not.

Was Evander Kane better defensively than half the team? Was Perry, who was scratched, better at moving the needle than Ekholm? Look at what actually happened, and the On ice goal differential and it's a lot closer to the eye test than whatever some dork says is an expected goal.
