Average goaltending is exactly what I would expect a team to have when they're only spending three and a half on the position entirely. Seems like pretty good value to me.

We're not average. If you take goaltenders that have played atleast 5 games, they've mad 18970 saves on 21056 shots, for a league average goaltending of .901 save percentage. Standard deviation of these goaltenders is around 0.015sv%, putting the bounds of 1 SD at 0.886 to 0.917 sv%.

We have a teamwide 0.880 sv%, which is below a SD of the mean. this means that statistically our goaltending is worse than ~85% of the leagues goaltending.

Coincidentally - we have played 13 games with atleast an .886 save percentage which gives us a record of 10-3-0, or a points percentage of 0.769 (which would be good for first in the league), but 10 games with below 0.886 save percentage with a record of 2-6-2 (a points percentage of 0.300, or 32nd in the league.).

This. Why do people keep saying we are getting average goaltending?? The stats clearly suggest not. I guess it makes them feel better.

I don't get our team. Why are we married to our goalies?

Colorado has had goalie struggles very similar to ours. Except, they are trying things. Wedgewood will be the 5th goalie they try this year.

I hope maybe we are just waiting for more of a slam dunk, but Wedgewood is no joke.
Cuz are goalie coach is protected like the president of the usa lolol

Other than a Skinner upgrade, I'd like to see what this group looks like completely healthy.

Here's how I'd have the lineup 👇

RNH-McDavid-Kapanen
Podkolzin-Draisaitl-Hyman
Kane-Henrique-Skinner
Janmark-Philp-Perry

I don't want to touch that top line as it's looking decent.

I don't want to move Podz out of the top 6 especially with his chemistry with Drai.

That 3rd line might be incredible.

The 4th line even looks good.

To throw a comparison up - the lower 15th percentile of job income in Alberta bring in less than $30,312 per year before taxes.

Essentially, our goaltending is the equivalent of part time minimum wage. And just like part time minimum wage job, you can't thrive off that shit in the world we live in today when a place to live outside of the cold is $1500 a month and groceries cost so much.

But just wait until you factor in that temporary GST holiday and $250 cheque. Problem solved.

Kane-McDavid-Hyman
Pod- Drai-Arvidsson
Skinner-Henrique-Kapanen
Janmark-Philip-Brown
Perry

Ekholm-bouchard
Nurse-TDL add
Kulak-emberson
Stecher

Skinner
Pickard

Thoughts?? I think this is probably what we’re looking at with everyone back after the TDL.

Edit: forgot about podkolzin

I'm willing to move Arvi and or Skinner plus our 1st for a major upgrade in net. Oil have a massive surplus of good forwards.
Trading Arvidsson would be a mistake in my opinion. Injury prone yes but his game is something that works with Leon. I’d give him a chance

If you can give away Arviddson for free you do it the guy came off a season playing 17 games how much more time did he need to be healthy? This season is gonna be replicated next year by him if you dont manage to offload him.

Hunt + 1st for Yer a Czeck.

Another trade where columbus fans rage at the thought of them not getting blue chip prospect and a 1st ++ for one of their players. Always happens, every thread they expect the moon and go on long tangents when you say otherwise, only to be proven wrong again.

Reminiscent of the Josh Anderson saga. I remember when Columbus fans on the mains were expecting a 1st plus A tier prospect.

David Jiricek to Minnesota. A lot was given up to get him. If that’s the baseline for getting a top 4 defenceman, how does Edmonton think they can get one? They don’t even have a 1st round pick this year.
