He was barely there for when they actually became good if I remember correctly. So you're omitting his Jersey stint?

I guess i should have filled out my post more. It looks like Devin has finally made a break through in the A. If he can show some consistency in the NHL with Dustin set to be a star and needing another 20 games ....Maybe Vladar will become available by Februaryish.I would rather try to get Vladar. Cooley is playing great in the AHL, but he never seems to figure out the NHL.
What I know is Stauffer keeps talking about John Gibson and about players that didn't want to be traded to Edmonton before but now want to come hereA lot of chatter about Blackwood, but are there actually any credible rumours that the Oilers are interested? I know management has come out and stated that the team will sink or swim (tread water) with Skinner but you’d have to think the team has to be looking at other options.
Sounds like Skinner, except the 4 goals on 11 shots happens way more often than the 44 saves.Your making an excuse for his play. Blackwoods play independent of the team has always been up and down like a yoyo!
One game he is a hero make 44 saves and 2 games later he lets in 4 goals on 11 shots.
Likely available soon as Husso is on the comeback.Alex Lyon is another goalie I would look at
Cuppy and I were probably his 2 biggest fans here. I was beyond pissed that he was the "throw in".
This is what I mean when I say he can't be trusted to steal games. He just can't move and make saves he has no business makin (which you need once in a while)Skinners inability to move side to side and track pucks through traffic will always be his downfall in the playoffs. He's not built to steal games. Not athletic enough. Oilers need a better goaltender to win a cup.
Yep they aren’t too stubborn to at least try and address an obvious issue.Wow, an organization who is willing to try things out instead of getting on their knees and hoping the goaltending will work itself out. Jealous

Let’s see how Wedgewood plays out. At least they pinpoint their issue and try to fix it
That pair only looked playable cause they were scoring on 20% of their shots in the playoffs.IIRC, Ceci was good enough when away from Nurse and Kulak started to falter when playing the right side with Nurse. Nurse was so bad last playoffs, more reason we should have fought to keep Broberg seeing as he was able to make that pair playable.
If you can keep Ceci on the 3rd pair, he is fine if not an above average guy there. Add in that he oddly scores in huge games, and he is a guy I'd be happy to have back for cheap if we can get another guy like Jiricek for the future and hopefully later this year once Coffey gets to mold him a bit.
It's not acceptable. But I also don't think he's actually the worst goalie in the league. I think the numbers will level out like they do every year and he finishes at or a touch above league average like he has every year of his career so far. He's an average goalie. He has swings and he has holes. So because they decided to go top heavy it’s acceptable for a 2.6 million dollar goalie to be the worst goalie in the entire league. Agree to disagree.
When Staples was on the other day- he mentioned the problem is goaltending. Stauffer quickly pivoted and moved on to the PP and forwards as a problem. It’s like all the media got a memo not to talk about SkinnerWhat I know is Stauffer keeps talking about John Gibson and about players that didn't want to be traded to Edmonton before but now want to come here
It’s just not his lateral movement- it’s his anticipation. Folks always talk about hockey IQ when it comes to players- but not with goalies. Last year during the playoffs, Woodley mentioned that Skinner just isn’t identifying the high danger areas. He was speaking about the puck moving behind the net to the front. He was hyperfocused on the guy behind the net (who was engaged with an Oiler d man- no chance of scoring) and totally unaware of the guy in front. He was slow to react when the puck was eventually centered, wasn’t set, and got cleanly beat. When Dubnyk was on the Rishaug podcast earlier this year- he alsoWow, an organization who is willing to try things out instead of getting on their knees and hoping the goaltending will work itself out. It’s because they are married to Schwartz and haven’t figured out he knows jack shit about the position.I don't get our team. Why are we married to our goalies?
Colorado has had goalie struggles very similar to ours. Except, they are trying things. Wedgewood will be the 5th goalie they try this year.
I hope maybe we are just waiting for more of a slam dunk, but Wedgewood is no joke.
Goaltending is an issue but so is our defence. The only time it's okay is when our top pair is out or Nurse (since he plays live a rover). Our breakouts are bad. It's going to be a lot harder tonight if we aren't able to make a decent first passWhen Staples was on the other day- he mentioned the problem is goaltending. So they're selling? I wonder what Stamkos thinks of his choice now
His #'s will level out a little, but that money excuse is tiringIt's not acceptable. But I also don't think he's actually the worst goalie in the league. For 2.6 per year you're sort of getting what you pay for.

By every metric, the team is playing well enough for goalies to succeed. We are not a bottom feeding team based on how well we handle possession, and the quality of chances against, but the goalie numbers are bad. Watching the games, we do tend to give up some bad chances against, but go look at a game by the teams at the top of the league and they do it too.Goaltending is an issue but so is our defence. The only time it's okay is when our top pair is out or Nurse (since he plays live a rover). Our breakouts are bad. It's going to be a lot harder tonight if we aren't able to make a decent first pass
I disagree on Skinner. The oilers won in spite of him. Skinner has been the worst goalie in the cap era only 20 or more playoff games. Oilers are the only team in history to have won a round when their starter has a .833 save %. He almost cost us Vancouver and Dallas (though he had an amazing game to close out Dallas). If you look at Florida-I am fine with keeping Skinner. I've harped on this a bit on these boards, where what I want is for the team is to have a true tandem. There should be someone who actually challenges Skinner to be the starter. Or heck, maybe Skinner needs more rest to be good.
If that is Pickard, then fine. Make him take the reigns as our starter then. It seems like the team doesn't view him that way though. It's all about riding Skinner and hoping he figures it out.
I get that Skinner was our goalie during our playoff run but he was very up and down. We didn't win anything because of him but overall he wasn't a weakness either. It's not a reason to marry ourselves to him. There have been a lot of goalies that got to the finals but aren't seen as good goalies today. Kuemper, Murray, Thompson. The league has parity. If you make the finals, it's not proof that every core player is top notch even.
Ceci wasn’t. Ceci was bad in every single pair he played on and brought down his teammates metrics when he was on the ice. He was very, very badIIRC, Ceci was good enough when away from Nurse and Kulak started to falter when playing the right side with Nurse. Nurse was so bad last playoffs, more reason we should have fought to keep Broberg seeing as he was able to make that pair playable.

Our defense is top 5 in the league by every metric. This team is excellent at preventing scoring chances against and high danger chances against. The defence is bad is a lazy narrative pushed by some our worst media (Gazzola). Skinner is dead last in goals saved above expected. Behind all back ups and 3rd stringersGoaltending is an issue but so is our defence. The only time it's okay is when our top pair is out or Nurse (since he plays live a rover). Our breakouts are bad. It's going to be a lot harder tonight if we aren't able to make a decent first pass
League average but bottom of the barrel starter wise. That’s not good enough behind a team that statistically allows very little. He is a massive reason (not the only one) why we start everyone season in the toilet. It's not acceptable. But I also don't think he's actually the worst goalie in the league. I think the numbers will level out like they do every year and he finishes at or a touch above league average like he has every year of his career so far. He's an average goalie. What he’s doing makes no sense. Poille was starting the rebuild before he left then Trotz took over and looked like he was trying to make Nashville competitive but now looks like he’s going to retool. Is Barry Trotz in a video game? I'm not sure what his mindset or plan is? He's trading and waiving players left and right. Is he rebuilding? Or trying to find magic out of nothing?
