I find myself being much calmer when Pickard is in net. I know that should not be the case, but it is.
Doesn't it seem like the team is as well? Some of the teams best games this season have been with Pickard in goal where they can settle in to their game and know if they are the better club they will win. Pickard has some hot and cold games but not usually so bad where he costs what would otherwise be a W.

Well in Campbell's case his performance did carry over ... he carried his shit 2nd half of the season over straight into Edmonton, lol.

We don't need an elite goalie per se (if we had one we'd have Cup banners already), but we need someone better than bottom of the barrell though. We would have won the Cup in 2006 if Roloson didn't go down.

I think our chance to win a Cup with a Skinner-tier goalie was last year. The stars aligned for it to be nearly so.

I don't know if that's going to repeat. It was good fortune enough that it happened once. You need to get someone better than bottom 2 in the league for GSAA ... that's just not gonna work.

Skinner can't even blame the D for his terrible numbers this year, they've been playing much more structured this year and Pickard is allowing almost an entire goal less against per game, which is an enormous gap.

Otherwise every year is going to be this same soap opera, frankly I think everyone including the players are beyond tired of it.

And frankly - for as bad as Skinner was nearly all playoffs long - if he just held the fort in game 7 we likely win the cup.

We out worked and out chanced them basically the entire game. We even bailed out his weak first GA with the beauty from Janmark basically immediately after.

Difference in that game 7 was between the pipes.

Yeah so I looked it up, and in the modern era (lets define as that as the point Gretzky/Oilers entered the league in 1979), there have been nine game 7s in the Cup Finals.

9/9 times the team that gets to 2 goals first wins the Cup.

You. Cannot. Give. Up. The. 2nd. Goal. In. Game. 7. Of. A. Cup. Final.

You lose if you do. Defensive coaching schemes are too good these days. Teams will go into an auto-trap and play it balls to the wall for 30-40 minutes (whatever is left in the game to kill off).
This is what I was stating here in realtime during that game. Game 7SC finals are inordinantly low scoring and every goal hugely important. To me at the time felt like the 2-1 goal which was not even an HDSC was likely the cup winning goal. 2nd goals are often critical because its common for the losing club to only have 0,1, or 2 goals.

Forget about HDSC, not even a regular Scoring Chance. Similiar xGF to a routine dump in at 0.01 xGF on that shot.

😂

For reference - Draisaitl's goal from the other side of the redline last night;

Lolol i know we pulled i believe Mike Morrison to replace him for the shootout lolol
I think it was Conklin who played a pretty solid game and took the team to the shootout, and MacTavish pulled him for the shootout and put in Morrison (or Markinen?), and Conklin took his helmet off and slammed it on the bench.

I remember a game where Conklin finished the 3rd and Morrison came in for a shootout and Conkin chucked his helmet down.

Don;t remember something like that happening with Garon, but it was so long ago

I like how SV% is sometimes an acceptable argument for tearing down goalies, but other times it isn't an acceptable argument for propping them up.

Keep on keepin on boys. Teams gonna do what they do every single year and if you don't know that by now you should probably pay attention or take up a real sport, like knitting. Knit yourself a f***in somebody

He’s the worst goalie in the league has been for a few years now, he can’t move, can’t react, can’t play goalie.

it’s sv% combined with a plethora of other stats that says he’s shit.

It would be great to get a goalie who can challenge Skinner. Give him a little fear that he could actually lose the starters job. Pickard is okay but he's not going make Skinner worried.

How's your boy Campbell doing?

Don't worry it's a rhetorical question.
Its stunning to me that anyone who has watched this team and actually understands why Skinner forced into being a #1 well before he was ready can defend Campbell.
Easier to just ignore all of that and continue to shit all over Skinner I guess.
Campbell set this team back in a major way...on multiple levels

Clearly the most deestructive decision Holland made with this team. Now he is relaxing in the sun spending his $25M.
Nice parting gift from Old Dutch.

It's not even just goalies. Every season it's the same thing.

"This guy sucks. That guy sucks. They all suck at hockey".

Then somehow they manage to put it together and hey look at that, it isn't just that they all suck at hockey.

Last game Stu had a gooder, and people are good. Then next game he has a bad one and it's the same "they need to do something NOW or the season is toast, blah blah blah".

Outside of a handful of posters this place really has become the absolute shits day to day. Then they all jump back on board for the playoffs. HFOil used to be a good alternative to the shitty mains, but somewhere along the long it just became much of the same.

They both suck.
For different reasons.
Campbell sewered this team and likely Skinners career as well.
Developing a goalie doesnt amount to throwing him to the wolves befroe he is ready (mentally and physically) and thats exactly what Campbell indirectly did with Skinner due to his sheer incompetence as a so called vet goalie.
Campbell was a fraud from the get go and the ripples of his incompetence are still causing issues for this team years later.
This will not be easy to solve.
