Pettersson is 165lbs at 6 foot 5. He looks like a floppy wiener. We don't need more softies on the backend.
?? You mean the guy who fought Nurse after he lit someone up with a hit? He's not soft as far as I know. But if Stan is planning for next year, Pettersson doesn't make much sense.

Plus he sucks. He's hardly an upgrade on Josh Brown.
Petersson?!? Ain’t no way.

The Oilers are more than holding their head above water defensively…

Since when is forcing a trade ever been a good idea.

To me the sleeper target might be Artem Zub, mainly with the Staios link and how heavily he was involved with the Oilers picking Beau Akey when he was here. Could see a deal where he’s the center piece going back, and Zub is a guy who could have an Ekholm like impact. Perfect partner for Nurse imo.

We would have to put together quite the package for Ottawa to trade him.

?? Forcing what? They need another better defenseman, he's that and available, again, the Oiler don't seem to have interest in pending UFAs.
and they probably aren’t going to just trade him before looking at all possible offers. It’s already been reported the Oilers are interested has it not?

I mean we could just offer everything in the cupboard and get it done but do you honestly think an impulsive decision like that is the right move? Edit : especially if he is an pending UFA

I really believe we need to find some cheapish goalie to have as a backup plan (unless they think Pickard can take us to a cup himself). Don't just go into the run with 1 bullet in the chamber

Did anybody listen to Rich Winter on Gregor yesterday? I always like listening to his stories.

He was talking about Hossa in CHI. EDM was giving him some sort of 80+ million contract. At that time, Hossa just wanted to win a cup.

He turned that down to sign a 1 year 8 mill deal. Holland couldn't believe his luck that he could get Hossa at 8 mill. He said he had one issue. He had to go to Lidstrom and tell him he won't be th highest paid player anymore. He had promised Lidstrom he would always be the highest.

Hossa says " Don't bother Lidstrom, I will just counter with 7.4 Million" lol. Got him for les

Funny thing is the team he left (Pittsburgh) would then beat him in the Cup Final, lol. Guess he finally got his in Chicago though. If I was him I would've just resigned with the Penguins.

I think it's general interest from the Oilers, but I doubt they want to "bid" for him, imo.

I'm not sure what they're planning on the blueline, I do believe they're looking for a player though, because Nurse being out has mad it more glaring.

And, like you suggest, I don't know the Oilers are eager to "overpay" for pending UFA. This doesn't make sense right now and because of my thoughts on Stan's plan for the team.

Look at the kind of guy he is, he's absolutely locked on Southern US. There's not chance he signs in Edmonton. The reason he can come to the Oilers is lack of trade protection.

If he comes cheap I am less worried about term. STL 2nd to Columbus for Provorov 50% retained and then our 2026 4th to a third team for another 50% retention would mean we'd get to keep our better assets while still addressing a major need.

More term would be ideal sure, but if this is our big move on D it would be an "alright" move in my books. Flip our 3rd this year to SJ for Blackwood @ 50% after that and we'd be cooking.

Provorov will probably work fine, just expect him to be gone, the Oilers should try hard to get jiricek in that deal as well.

Blackwood is just a no for me, SJ can't retain and I don't trust his health

Copying this from twitter. I actually am starting to loathe this org

Pierre Lebrun says the Oilers are not looking for goaltending help and “They are ready to sink or swim with Stuart Skinner”

Here’s some fun stats:

In the first 3 games of the Canucks series alone Stuart Skinner let in 7 goals on 38 low danger chance shots and 12 goals total

After Stus stolen win to eliminate Dallas he STILL ranked 22nd out of 26 goalies in GSAx per @CSAHockey in the 23/24 playoffs

Per @Sportlogiq Skinner was at -6.99 GSAx going into game 6 against VGK in 22/23 where he ultimately let in 4 goals on 17 shots

The Playoff GSAx of the Cup Winning Goalies per EH:

23/24 Bob: +7.81
22/23 Hill: +13.13
21/22 Kuemper: -7.29
20/21 Vasi: +17.33
19/20 Vasi: +13.72
18/19 Binnington: +1.08
17/18 Holtby: +6.84
16/17 Murray/Fluery: +4.56/+2.53

24/25 Reg Stu: -5.77

Skinner isn’t the worst goalie in the NHL, but he can be for long stretches, you need a second guy you can turn to a la Fluery & Murray

If not, you’re just crossing your fingers hoping he doesn’t single handedly end another year of McDavids prime.

Get Blackwood

Not really surprised to hear this. Skinner gets so much rope its honestly baffling. I think its bad that its coming from LeBrun too, hes never struck me as a guy who says stuff for clicks unlike Friedman, Seravalli etc who I think are more guilty of this.

Hopefully its just lip service from management because they dont want to create chaos. Hopefully they are actually looking for other goaltending options (even if they keep Skinner). I doubt it though.

We're getting close to the time of year where we add someone who fakes a vaccination card or gets drunk at a holiday party and then signs here for close to league minimum. Any predictions on who that will be this year?
Dunno but hopefully they play goalie.

To be fair, I would have said the same thing about Evander Kane. If he were a UFA he would probably never look at Edmonton twice, but if he comes here in a trade and finds success, I think all bets are off.
