Man if they could flip Jeff Skinner to Boston, get Boston to send Fredrick to the Habs, then add some pieces for Matheson at 50%, they'd be cooking with gas.

Only if he did not have that pesky NMC and Matheson is Bouchard light but worse

He is the guy I am looking at
Normally I'd agree that a NMC would be a big issue. But from Skinner's perspective this was also about of a show-me contract. If he is going to be seeing most of his time with guys like Ryan it will be tough for him to earn his next contract, especially with the Oilers. With a team like Boston he could find himself in a situation where he can set himself up for next year in a location that is not so far from home.

Skinner is not a "boston" type player is the other problem.

I asked ChatGPT what we would need to trade to get Lindholm, and here's what I got:

Likely Trade Proposal:

  • Edmonton Oilers: Xavier Bourgault (or similar high-end prospect), Kailer Yamamoto (or similar NHL roster player), 2024 first-round pick.
  • Boston Bruins: Hampus Lindholm
There was also a string of text that suggested we might need to add Brock Nelson (??????), so yea I think all of our jobs are safe for a little while longer.
I’ll easily trade both bourgault and Yamamoto for him

Again, we're discussing options for the team, you're quitting before you start.

Boston is a playoff team and appears to be a better fit, plus it's Eastern conference travel, is suspect he would wave, but again definitely quit before you start

Skinner is not a "boston" type player is the other problem.
Now you're just making things up. They need more skilled wingers, he's that. It's actually really straight forward.

Getting Jiricek seems like a no brainer. He's clearly disgruntled at being stuck behind all the RD in Columbus. He's cheap enough that we could send back a smallish contract like Stecher and maybe Ryan and it all fits easily and we can still accrue for a bigger move later

I agree with him, I'm having trouble remembering the last one-dimensional undersized winger who skewed towards being soft that Boston actively acquired.

They have an old school mentality there and a pretty clear line on what they think a Boston player is and isn't, like they traded Kessel very young cause he didn't fit the team identity. Also I watched a behind the scenes thing when they traded Seguin who I actually think fit BOS's style he just needed a little time to grow into matching it, but all it really took was 2-3 people being like is he really a BOS type player and in that moment his fate was sealed and they had to trade him.

He should just come back after the break. He might feel fine but it’s better to ply its age with a potential brain injury.
I totally agree. This break seems like the perfect thing for that. It's only 1 more missed game. It's against the Rangers but still. They have a hunter like Trouba out there

My habs buddy dislikes him with a passion. He'd be overjoyed if Matheson got traded here.
Him: "Matheson can move the puck but his defensive awareness makes you want to break your TV."
Don't think we need that on our second pairing with a guy who's decision making is still rather low in Nurse, lol.
Alot of Habs fans feel this way

I dunno, the assets required to get him will be massive and he’s not a top 4 yet
I’d rather use those assets for a plug and play top 4 dman

If this was 2020, maybe I’d do it

I wonder if this is Fowler and the holdup is that he's out 2-4 weeks with an "upper body injury":

-Puck mover
-Can play the right side
-Has one year left after this one

I just don't see how on earth the cap works unless we get double retention, but even 50% is going to up the price significantly given the extra year. OTOH, he was having a very poor start and at full ticket was too expensive for most contenders to acquire, so retention by Anaheim might just end up being the cost of doing business.

The only other player I can think of is Erik Gustafsson and Stauffer has a weird fascination with him. The cap makes way more sense, but I'd be absolutely against trading even nothing for him. He's a third pairing guy who posts third pairing results and we do not need another one of those.
Fowler is done though. Hes got nothing left.

So confused with how much space we will have at the deadline???

We have about 304,000 right now? How does Kane being on LTIR affect this? If he comes back before the deadline how does it affect it?
Kane is not using LTIR space. If he comes back it doesn't change the cap at all.

Our cap space is 304 000 like you said. Our deadline accrual is set for 1.38 million aav

Once arvidsson returns we can send someone else down and accrue more. Arvy isn't on LTIR either

Edit: there is a benefit if Kane gets back early in that we could maybe send someone else down and then use that cap space.

Boston usually likes 2 way players not one dimensional. If Skinner is not scoring he is useless to any team he is on

I knew our scoring was rough but…
Last year not including McDrai we had 4 forwards hit 40+ points. This year we are on pace for none. Boys gotta get scoring.

Knob has to make it a priority to get other players going and not just fixate on McDrai-ing himself to victory on any given night.

Other players need to be given time to play with McDavid, like Podkolzin on the top line I'm good with.

Skinner and Arvidsson should get looks there too. Same with PP Unit 1. Same with Kapanen now he should get some looks with Draisaitl immediately if not even McDavid.

All that "tough love" shit never works. You demote a guy to the 4th line here and their offense just goes down the toilet.

You have to be flexible. It can't just be RNH + Hyman are the only two players on the roster that ever get any time with McDavid or on the PP. If our PP was lights out, that would be one thing but Hyman and RNH are terrible on the PP right now. Give someone else a chance to score an easy goal or two and maybe, just maybe that gets them going.
