Some guy on Sirius XM proposed

McLeod, Ceci and Broberg for Karlsson at 40 percent retained.

Would you do it?

They would have to retain a little bit more for the cap to work, but obviously if that's on the table, you almost have to do it. You're getting the Norris trophy winner for 2 guys who haven't really established themselves at the NHL level and Ceci.

I think he was more stubborn than anything. He always thought that his shot was his bread and butter so he was hyper-focused on honing his craft. There was nothing wrong with Yak's ability to pass but he just didn't process the game at NHL speed.

Yakupov would've probably put up Yamamoto numbers stuck to 97's hip that year where he was close to a PPG over a dozen game stretch, but he got tangled up with that ref and never really recovered.

Yakupov wouldn't have put up squat. He had no hockey sense. He didn't know how to utilize himself with other players

11 points in the first 14 games of 2015. The numbers speak for themselves. He averaged 30 points a year minimum in Edmonton. If he was given primary ice for the majority of the season he would've easily put up 40 points or more.

Really don't want Karlsson but even I would go for this ....maybe just to see the breakout on the PP.

To play devils advocate, how is Broberg supposed to prove himself if he doesnt get regular reps in the lineup?

It just seems like poor asset management to throw a guy on his off-side with Kulak while also having to share shifts with VD? Like why cant Kulak play the right side? Oh right because he sucks at it. Seems like favoritism to me. The guy with more experience and making more money should be able to help the younger player, not the other way around.
You have to find a way to show it in practices and then games when you get your name called. The bottom line is that he has been given chances but has never really grabbed a spot by the horns and forced himself into the lineup. Kulak is an established and effective D and then there is Nurse and Ekblad ahead of him. Broberg needs to outplay Kulak if he wants to be here long term.

So if we sell Browns rights before the draft, his bonus situation disappears?
So while there is a fair chance of reinjury and an opportunity cost ...if his play is really a 2nd line or 3rd line player our risk is minimal. We can choose our path forward. If he gels well on the top two lines we pay the price.
Hmmm this should have been in his thread.

I don't think we have the capspace even for this
Karlsson at 6.9M in. McLeod about 1.5 and Cecil at 3.25 going out. Not sure if with our current cap if Broberg is penciled in if he is that leaves us about 1.3 million short and we would need a replacement for McLeod. Foegele would have to go and we would need to bring in 2 league minimum salary players

This true? We can get out of the bonus entirely by trading his rights? I find that hard to believe. I was under the assumption that upon 10 games played we were going to have to pay his bonus no matter what.

I'm interested in this as well. It sounds like even though he hits that bonus and the Oilers have to pay him the cash, the cap penalty isnt applied until the end of the season. So in theory even though hes paid his bonus we might be able to trade him before the cap penalty is applied.

This definitely sounds like cap circumvention though so I dont see how the league would allow it.

The only way I see us adding Karlsson is if Campbell is included to make the cap work.

yup

The Broberg part especially stings. I don't mean to insult McLeod (or Ceci). With Ceci, he'd have his replacement in Karlsson. With McLeod, we could develop Holloway to replace him. With Broberg? I don't see a D prospect of his caliber in our pool. Broberg has top 4 potential. He was a big part of the future plans for when a guy like Ekholm ages out.

Deangelo buyout. Move Ceci out and bring him in.

Isn’t he labeled as being a bit toxic in the locker room? Dude has been on 3 different teams in the past 3 seasons which makes you wonder why he’s not sticking with one team despite the respectable numbers.

I don't see it that way. Him and Torts had some problems, but by all accounts Carolina is trying to bring him back. Pretty sure they couldn't afford him was the issue.

edit: I just remembered the most egregious decision Chiarelli made which was getting Brandon Manning. Hahahahaahahahaha.

Only player with 2 buyouts for contract termination...but you don't see a problem with the player lmao.

You obviously haven't watched him play either. Suggesting to replace Ceci with him is pretty much the dumbest thing we could do
