Basically, you can waive anybody and assign them to Bakersfield and thus not count 1.25M (its close to that figure, not sure about the 2024-25 stipulation) towards the cap. Obviously you could lose them on waivers.

I think that upfront they would do that with Ryan if they had to. He's had a good run but he's getting close to the end of the line. Ditto for Perry.

Brown (on defense) could go down too.

Jackson knows spreadsheets and numbers. As a player agent he had to be pretty good at calculations that looked down the road. This is a skill that Holland lacked.
But did you hear about that one time in Detroit?

Thanks for the explanation!

A bunch of us bashed Holland for trading a 4th for Stecher and 1st for Henrique and JJ just goes and re-signs them for 2 extra years plus swapped the 1st to next year to get a prospect the scouts were high on. We’re pretty much getting maximum value now for that 1st and 4th.
Also the Ekholm trade basically landed Arvidsson as well so while JJ had a great day, some of the past moves Holland made paid dividends. Also, bringing Janmark and Brown in in the first place so we shouldn't lose sight of the good Holland did through all the good JJ did today.
With that said, no way would Holland have been this proactive starting with the draft day trade so this is next level stuff from JJ.

Man, what a day. I wanted to keep that 3rd line together so badly, but I didn't know if there was any way it could be done. Masterclass by JJ.

Side note, I didn't realize Janmark never played in Detroit. He was drafted by them, with Holland at the helm. Then Nill, who was in Detroit that year, got him when he moved to Dallas. Played a couple games for GR but none for Det that I can see. And I didn't realize he cracked the 30pt pace so many times. I'm glad we have him locked up at this point in his career for a very fair price. I didn't think much of him the last couple regular seasons, just a guy Kenny had a boner for was my shallow thoughts. But like most of Oil country, fell in love with him these playoffs.

In regards to our negative cap space, my prediction is that HolloBerg don't get signed until around training camp. I don't believe we can LTIR Kane until the season starts (correct me if im wrong)? So we send some guys down, make a roster work, then LTIR Kane, sign the youngsters to near matching contracts for ~1m/2 years, and upgrade the D at the deadline with possibly Kane returning for a cup run if not moved out once his NTC loosens up. Hopefully by then, Doughty decides he wants to get another cup and we can get him for an Ekholm like cost.

Now my question is, with our recent trade for 1sts, can we move our 2026 1st? It could technically still be in a trade as there is protection on this year's 1st.

I'm excited to hear from Drai now! He's got to be fist pumping after today.

Arvi has a way better one-timer than I ever imagined.

What a day!

Jackson for PM of Canada!
I do wonder if Drai and McDavid see what's happened today and consider taking 1-2m/yr less to keep this thing intact longer term. If JJ can get Drai for $13m or under and McDavid $15m or under, they might have to erect a Jeff Jackson statue alongside Gretzky.

Draisaitl will get paid and he deserves it. Something like 8 x 13 is my guess.

McDavid will sign for 8 x 12.5 again. Similar to Crosby and Ovi, he has sponsors and his legacy is more important than contract dollars.
