Skinner has the most goals of the available wingers and has been a positive on-ice 200-foot contributor for the past 20 games or so. Of course this means he never gets to play? Did he insult Knobs wife or something? Like, what is going on here?

Projected lineup has him scratched again. Wasn't in the lineup at practice apparently. Since he has shown an upward trend they should definitely be trying to work with that and see what level he can get up to for the playoffs, but I'm not a coach.

Don't let Ekholm find you!.

The reports that we were willing to give up assets comparable to what DAL gave up AND lock Rantanen to 13M+ shows the mentality of this organization. Are they seriously adding that much money on wing? Do they not see the holes on D ?

With all the NMCs handed out we would've been a lot of trouble if he accepted and one of Bouchard or Ekholm would've likely been a Cane.
I thought Rantanen was elite. This year he's being thrown around as if he was Connor Brown in his impotent days. I think D is actually fine and deep. But riding hopes for the Stanley cup on Skinner...barf

He picked up bad habits over the years playing on bad teams but is trying to correct it especially on defense. But clearly the coach doesn’t trust him enough in that regard as opposed to janmark etc.

Yes because when you're as dominant of a puck possession player as he and Ekholm that year (and for that matter the 5 players that always played together) you tend to get numbers like that. There's not much of a negative impact a player can have defensively when his team has the puck 70% of the time. It's also a fair argument that dominant puck possession play is actual good defence because technically it is.

You'll have a hard time arguing a player with his underlying metrics and +32 wasn't elite last year at both ends of the ice.

To add to this point. Carlo is likely dragged down in his defensive numbers because he is an atrocious puck mover. It's the same argument for Cody Ceci. Is Ceci a bad defensive zone defender? No. Is he a bad defensive D? Yes, because he gets constantly hemmed in his own zone because his puck retrievals and puck moving are just dreadful.

Whats most concerning for Carlo is that his numbers look like this despite playing 3rd pairing 5v5 minutes, and only facing mid-tier competition. His only saving grace is his quality of teammate wasn't great and maybe that boost in Toronto will make his serviceable in a middle pairing role, but that is still quite a gamble.
Well well this quite unique here....someone that has an inkling of the underlying meaning of some of the numbers. Nice to see.

No they don't. JFresh chart has Bouchard as an average defensive D and Elite offensive D.
Well Carlo seems to be playing top pairing minutes in Traano tonight. Anyways , time will tell if we tried to be too cute instead of adding the obvious hole with a piece that fit

He is elite but isn't 13M per elite.
He returned a big return both times he got traded so not really Connor Brown.
Let's see if he hits 100pt mark again.

Yup, Carlo was solid tonight. Also dropped in without a parachute into a tough road game and played team high 22:04 toi with top pk minutes 3:31. 6 block shots. 0+/-. Tons of trust in this player against an elite offensive team to drop in big minutes and top competition's lethal power play.

I'm still stunned at the contract we offered rantanen. Shots fired at Bouchard imo. If Marner hits FA it seems like a logical pivot if Bouchard's not in their plan.

In a roundabout way we could cement Marner's position on the Olympics team. I hope he is super butthurt right now.

Yeh, would have shored up our D if we found a way to add both Carlo and Walman. It is still suspect for a long playoffs run.

Clearly Rantanen over Bouchard was in their plans. We can hope they target Marner over Bouchard
